Charli XCX

I love Chains of Love and this is nice, too, but neither of these two singles (or the screenshots we've seen so far from the movie) seem to have anything to do with the themes of Wuthering Heights? The novel is the story of an orphaned immigrant (closer in ethnicity to Charli XCX herself than Jacob Elordi) who is brought, cast out, and then re-buys his way back into British aristocracy to disaster ends. It is a story of economic violence being aestheticized into a gothic romance.

 

Maybe previous film adaptions did this as well...I haven't seen them...but I was hoping we'd get something much closer to Brontë's source material, without white-washing and romanticizing its themes.

The earliest screening for me is Feb 5th at an imax theater 45 minutes away

idk, i am re-reading the book the right and it is chock of full of agonized emotional/romantic turmoil and high-gothic familial drama, so i think the songs work perfectly--especially bc fennell's version, as i understand it, is very much focused on the tortured romance of it all rather than the other pertinent themes you mentioned. she said in an interview that she was trying to capture the novel as she experienced it as a teen--ie pure gothic romance.
