Margaret sounded great love with her live vocals- she didn’t demonstrate power but I’d disagree with her struggling to remain on pitch-her pitch ability is better than ever

Mariah uses falsetto to create that whisper sound not head voice…..yes Mariah tends to crack when using chest voice now but only when she pushes it- can agree that her voice sounds otherwise hoarse and dry tone wise though. If you’re trying to say Lanas voice lacks power I’d agree- but her head voice is still well maintained as evidenced on the Liverpool anthem. Theres lots of reverb throughout UV but she’s actually using head voice on shades of cool not chest which is why it sounds operatic almost- she rarely belts with chest voice except for k part 2, her lives from million dollar man etc, heart shaped box especially.

The interesting thing is her BTD lives actually featured a fair bit of chest voice…I actually think her studio voice sounded a bit lighter than her lives back then even if the darker tone was forced

Okay I’m revisiting ray of light and reliking it a lot more than I remember- my main issue however is this isn’t a pop album. At most it could be classified as alt pop but there’s no big hooks- pop vocals or songs with big anthemtic choruses. it’s a trip hop album influenced by electronica, ambient music and clearly alternative rock which makes all the discussion about being the best pop album automatically void to me. Probably her best work though and I’m not complaining as the saint etienne, portishead and massive attack influences work really well with her opera voice on this album.

She made a folk album with American life though- it’s just folktronica
