  1. between this and "living in the garden of evil", @@evilentity has a lot of explaining to do
  2. Straight-browed Lana is Best Lana. (See Lana in the new theme @@Beemo made)
  3. I only speak about offensive appropriation if I have the knowledge and some sort of extensive exposure (worded kinda oddly) to the culture. (Or y'know, I'm a part of it). Googling information and lacking some sort of gateway to the culture, like extensive exposure, doesn't really suffice. I don't know anything about Dia de Muertos. I have never been exposed to it in person. I've never even met a Mexican person in my life! If it does engage in offensive appropriation, I hope that there's someone on the forum (ideally, a part of the culture ) that can explain the significance to it and why it is offensive. Conversely, I would say that I also hope there's someone on the forum of the culture that can explain why it ISN'T offensive, but I'm sure we'll have that base covered.
  4. Ok, I can see that point, that's worded pretty deliberately. I still, however, think that a lot of the Kardashians critics, I would say even most, rely on slut shaming tactics (knowingly and unknowingly), as a part of their critiques. But of course, the distinction you made is pretty important. "Unseemly" is a good term for it too. Still speaking generally, this supposed shift in increasing vanity and/or coveting a particular lifestyle in the western world (because of the Kardashians + people like them), isn't causing "the world to be fucked".... nor can we make a correlation between this "shift" and a lack of compassion. And does one accurately measure the dips and highs in compassion on a global scale? How can you even assess something as visceral and personal as "compassion"? haha, i'm being silly here but this entire thing is just ridiculous. i love waking up in the morning and getting a good dose of LanaBoards self-righteousness.
  5. i'm somehow reminded of these antiquated arguments that scandalized, puritan people would make in the face of "immoral" change back-in-the-day, and still happens, to a lesser extent (see previous post) they are scourge of society! heathens and god-less men that lack Christ's teachings! those disgusting young men and women partaking in pre-marital sex! women that taunt men by exposing their legs! the world is falling apart because of these disgusting, immoral people! (i could go on. i mean, i'm no good at making indignant, scandalized and exceedingly dramatic arguments like others here are but i can try my best?) society hasn't fallen apart yet, despite a lack of church going, enlightened sexuality, and daring to show our ankles. i think we're doing just fine being "bombarded" by reality show stars and celebrities attempting to stretch their 15 min of fame by using provocative means. but of course, some would say that "the world is fucked".
  6. Oh God. This movie will be glorious! Can't wait to get my knickers in a twist about cultural appropriation! *rubs hands together gleefully*
  7. That's cool. We all like and value different things. I'm more concerned with this really unwarranted vitriol that the family seems to elicit in others. They are harmless. See above. I also don't think the family is responsible for this sort of ~moral decay~ that some like to attribute to them. I also don't think Kim, nor anyone in the family has a moral obligation to ~be a good role model~ like was posed earlier in the thread. Lastly, I think a lot of the critiques of the roots of their fame can be attributed to inadvertent slut-shaming. It's not so much that I like the Kardashians, but more like the arguments people have against the Kardashians are so inane and ridiculous: and I can't help but feel the need to say something. Also LOL @ anyone having an obligation to ~contribute to society~. Yeah, I think that's really what I dislike, the idea of obligation to society, whether it be some sort of contribution that must have some sort of ~value or merit~ according to another's standards or the obligation to be some sort of role model. Dafuq? They have no obligations to you, nor I, nor to society. And because of their supposed failure to meet these standards, they are now saddled with some sort of moral decay and a growing lack of compassion in society or some equally inane crap?? Ok there. Just let 'em live their lives and don't get so incensed about it. Just do you. Simple. I'd want to, @@Viva is S E X Y
  8. I reread it and I don't really see it as Lana-bashing. I merely made an assumption about her opinion on the Kardashian family based on little interview snippets, and I admittedly poked fun at the silly things she's said in interviews, but full-on bashing? I didn't call her artistry or talent or her merits as a singer into question, like people have been doing here with the Kardashians. Also, saying that she may feel superior wasn't intended to be bashing either. I think we all feel superior to someone at some point in our lives. I get that feeling when I look at my Facebook feed
  9. Genuinely not trying to start anything or liven things up, I just don't know why the Kardashians inspire such vitriol.
  10. lolwut? I didn't bash Lana, I merely defended the Kardashians.
  11. Why is everyone assuming that Lana declined because she didn't want to be on the show? Two things to remember: Kanye is notoriously private and I highly doubt the proposal was filmed for a Keeping Up With the Kardashians episode. No one in the family knew about the proposal, it was a surprise to all of them, so any speculation that Kris reached out to Lana is unlikely I also don't think Kanye, nor anyone from his camp asked Lana to perform. IDK, it really just doesn't seem like something Kanye would do, inviting another artist to sing at his proposal. I think if Kanye wanted her to be there, she would be there... but I'm of the opinion that the lone simple orchestra is far more... classy and understated. There's a time and a place for grandiosity, and I don't think the proposal music was the right moment. (LOL @ me writing like I know them ~personally~ ) I just thinking inviting another artist that is not a part of/close to the family would have taken away from the moment. I also have a sneaking suspicion that Lana shares @@Lanakai's thoughts on the Kardashians. True, Lana likes trashy things, but it's really the kitsch factor of the trashy factors that ultimately draws the appeal... you know, like trailer parks and racing jackets and gold teeth or what have you, not "celebrity trashy". Lana always attempts to appear to be unbothered and above "celebrity" (~cobain fan-gurl~ "i wanna make music that means something~~~") and her recent comments in the Electronic Beat Magazine interview regarding her disenchantment with the music industry -- lololol "true artistry" "no1 cares lyke i do" "omg no, attention to looks is bad lets not place emphasis on that~" -- I wouldn't be surprised if there's some unfounded and unwarranted feelings of superiority regarding the Kardashians. Yay, also an excuse to use a Kanye tiny hip hop head! ...but do we really need an excuse??

  13. Kind of sick of Kardashian-bashing. Who says you have to ~contribute to society~?

  15. *slinks back* Don't you find that similarminds "profiles" tend to be so one-note? The individual types are multifaceted, and it seems like in an effort to be concise, they're actually losing accuracy and are stereotypical instead.
  16. generally speaking, i think that's only really true of SJs, not so much of SPs! anyway, happy typing, don't mind me! *slinks away*
  17. i dunno, again, i think none of those things can be solely attributed to using intuition as a cognitive process, and i think it just comes from being... intuitive. i'm just repeating myself at this point. oop @ me to put it bluntly, i think you have a very limited view of how intelligent, compelling, and however contradictory this may seem, abstract a "sensor" can be. there was this post you wrote up in the MBTI thread that had the most obvious intuitive-bias, which you might want to watch...
