  1. I can't tell if she's the real deal, or studied the real deals and sings about them and surrounds herself with them so much that it just feels that way.
  2. You guys don't really understand at all. Half the time on the forum i'm just like . You guys really don't understand it at all. You're constantly comparing it to other situations and other cultures but there is no other culture or type of oppression that native americans endured and still endure today. I don't understand how people can defend something because it's Beautiful and looks amazing but has no meaning behind it, but say "Fuck off, come one, are you serious?" When people try to defend something that is so damn sacred and special to a lot of people when it's being sexualized, misused, and shit on. It really makes me question what people stand for. It's like vanity overrules your humanity when it comes to this whole headdress situation. http://nativeappropriations.blogspot.ca/2010/04/but-why-cant-i-wear-hipster-headdress.html
  3. I wouldn't really care so much, but she's wearing it in a scene where her friends are intoxicated and acting like drunks and doing fucking stupid shit. And there she is laughing wearing a fucking headdress. It's just pointless and no matter how "beautiful" it looks there is no meaning behind it. She should've left it out all together.
  4. in terms of skill, composition, and originality "Video Games" is her best song. "Born To Die" comes in second. National Anthem and blue jeans have a pop chord progression that have been used in literally thousands of songs.
  5. it's obviously a cig you can see the filter
  6. "Born To Die" shits on this tbh #unpopularopinionbutbitchdontcare
  7. As a native american, I don't think Lana really thought about what she was doing in the video. Point is most of you think it looks cool, and it does, but it brings to mind stereotypes. The stereotypical indian that was created in the old films, (all indians were played by white people painted red back then, not so different from blackface) Native Americans did not create their own stereotypes. For most people, when they think of Native Americans the first thing that comes to mind is Pocahontas savages who spoke broken english and wore headdresses and yelled around like fucking idiots, that is not the case however. They did not speak broken english, only wore headdresses when they earned it and were highly regarded in the tribe, and Pocahontas was modeled after an asian model. Point is, a white woman wearing a headdress is perpetuating stereotypes and not helping but rather hurting the modern Native image. She's making indian customs into costumes. She's not helping the modern Native image but rather regressing the thoughts of native americans back to old ways. It would be different if she had a Native American wearing a headdress in her video. It makes no sense for her to wear it and it pisses me off that she's wearing it while intoxicated and acting like a fucking idiot playing with fire and throwing bottles and shit. It's stupid and unnecessary. She definitely lost a whole lot of respect from me by doing this. As for the "old america" thing I think she's referring to the post-war type feel of america, like the pride for being an American back then which I think is highly romanticized nowadays and pretty false considering how hard life was for everyone back then. I think what she was trying to say is she liked how they dressed and their style was back then...... Oh lana....I used to think you were like the greatest person alive but I just don't know anymore I've got a war in my mind.
  8. love it, love everything about it, hate the ending. I wish it was a bit more sad like all her lovers leave her or something at the part where she's like "i'm tired driving till i see stars in my eyes". but yeah awesome cinematography and everything. fuck. the. headdress.
  9. I actually really like the monologue. I just wish she didn't do it on NA because now it just feels repetitive.
  10. lol at the very least its just a few seconds haha and i'm not even going to answer to that flag question
  11. i just don't know, i'm going to wait to make my final opinion on the whole headdress matter when I see the entire video. All I know is if she's simply wearing it to be fashionable, then she's not the woman I thought she was. I thought she would be smarter than that. If she was making a statement it would be different.
  12. It's funny cause we are talking about this but in the grand scheme of things, nothing is really going to change, Lana is just going to be written up on a few native blogs and this is all going to be forgotten about in a week. The only thing that could actually change things is if Lana was aware of what she did and apologized, that's what I like to see. She'd gain an enormous amount of respect from me if she did that.
  13. bleh i don't wanna cause trouble but i just want to explain why headdresses are a problem. First off, it perpetuates the stereotypes of native americans that old hollywood used to develop in their movies. Something that native americans have been trying to fight off for well over 30-40 years now. Second, Native Americans never wore head dresses unless they earned it. It represents something entirely more than just a fashion item. "representing the way america used to be" doesn't make sense for wearing a headdress. America treated Native Americans like complete fucking dogs and that's what your saying Lana is representing? To native americans (and many others) wearing a headdress is no different than blackface, it does nothing but further stereotypes and make something that used to be high regarded in a culture into nothing more than a bracelet or hat it's acceptable to like the headdress because it probably looks fucking cool, but you probably don't know why wearing it is insensitive in the first place.
  14. Same here. I love lana so fucking much!!! gah I hope this doesn't change the way i see her haha
  15. I always hate when people make native americans out to be party themes or halloween costumes rather than actual people. I absolutely hate when people do headdresses for fashion, it's ridiculous. Really disappointed at hearing this. I thought lana would be more sensitive to other cultures and research before she uses that type of imagery.
  16. .....indian. headdress. ..... ....the fuck lana? She's gonna get some back lash for that one in the native country. other than that sounds fucking incredible.
  17. ok....yay screenings are over....now upload the damn thing lana...please....
  18. Lana's management would let her do this because she's probably gonna get half a million for this haha
  19. I love walking home to "ride" & smoking to "burning desire" lol
  20. I want it to be like blue jeans and born to die, as much as i love the summertime/national anthem vintage instagram stuff i freaking love her high budget legit music videos.
  21. for the most part some of the judges are actual music listeners and look for skill and execution (IMO having worked on music and composition she's well beyond her years and much more sophisticated with her melodies and music composition than most pop performers) look at what happened with justin bieber and esperanza spalding. but Then other times it's just a popularity contest
  22. I think she may get a nomination. if anything she's going to get one for best new artist.
