She's obviously very depressed. I'm not surprised, but it's still sad. I hope she's seeing someone

Ultraviolence Reviews: 74 Metascore (DISCUSS REVIEWS ONLY)
KillKillQueen replied to Jared's topic in Latest News
Pitchfork seems to be into Lana right now. Most of their pieces about her aren't too rude, she played Coachella, and the kind of music they go to bat for in general (critically acclaimed gentrified Brooklyn music) seems to be going in a more tragic, acoustic direction. Especially as Lana is setting herself apart from the Artpop, Prism, Bangerz style of "relevant pop star music". And yes, Lana is a relevant pop star, and yes those are the same teenage girls and "ironic"(or not) young adults connect to Wrecking Ball and Blue Jeans in the same breath. -
Ultraviolence Reviews: 74 Metascore (DISCUSS REVIEWS ONLY)

On the contrary, he seems too crotchety and bitter to not be well versed in classic dad-rock, and the idea of a highly stylized 28 year old woman appropriating that sound for her "childish, monotone, etc) songs about death, abusive relationships and opulence is upsetting to him. Even when he begrudgingly admits some minuscule thing about the album doesn't suck, he makes sure to attribute it to a man. Also "her vocals make it sound like she just slipped herself a date rape drug" Fucking really? Let's just stick with the benzodiazepine comparisons if we must do the "lol how sedated is this bitch" thing. Even if Lana doesn't see the sexism in some of the critique surrounding her rise, it is there, and it has always been there. -

So The Guardian spends the whole review tearing her lyrics and general existence down, barely talking about the songs themselves, only to give her a 4/5? "lol you suck but this album is the shit"?- 477 replies

The New York Times - June 12th, 2014 [Print]
KillKillQueen replied to lanasgirl's topic in New Interviews
This is a great interview, wow. One of her best, and I'm really glad she seemed to be able to open up for such a hugely read publication. This interview is going to be an important one during the album cycle, and when reviews start coming in for UV. I loved that they got her age right, (mostly because people have all these silly theories about the one year difference when it's likely that it was a mistake made in one of her first "real" interviews in the past that people stuck with) I loved that she talked about how sarcastic MPG is supposed to be, and that she expands on the feminism thing, actually admitting that she doesn't really know anything about it (as opposed to tay tay swifting it or Shaline Woodley "I just love men so much, how could I possibly be a feminist" nonsense) A+ Lana -
It could be like Video Games? The verses and chorus about two different situations? I totally got the feeling that the verses were about the manager guy too, I don't know.

It IS or the keys. Like, the Florida Keys.

I hear "His money on the side" Bonnie, like Bonnie and Clyde maybe? Like she's the side girl, but she's his partner in crime, which would connect to the "money on the side" and watching him get high?

They make up new nonsensical genres for all of her albums right? I think we're calling this one "Narco-Swing" -

I'm nowhere near a blind follwer (the unreleased stuff is dreadfully hit or miss for me, and I wish Paradise was a lot beter than it is) but Cruel World is the only thing underwhelming me at the moment, lmao are you all even done with the album to call it trash? This is less lyrically cinematic, but it sounds great and honestly I think more people will take UV seriously (for whatever that's worth) -
