Rewatching Charli's Jimmy Kimmel performance of Bounce now and it hits even better in the brat era. I feel like it would get way more appreciation than it did at the time of it's initial release.

it just goes to show you how far she’s come. people just weren’t ready for Vroom Vroom when it came out, and I don’t think she’d be where she is now if it weren’t for the mixtapes. it’s a shame that Bounce was received so poorly and that XCX World got shelved, but Brat being as successful as it is means she doesn’t have to compromise herself or her artistry ever again..she made her own way and she made it :trisha:

y'all really think charli can compete on the charts against TAYLOR of all people 😭 babes… let's aim lower… how bout we start with sabrina carpenter? maybe dua lipa!

taylor is LITERALLY competing with her, but whatever. at least charli doesn’t have to release 40 deluxe versions of the same AWFUL album to stay at number 1. she has actual artistic integrity unlike the greedy chart obsessed blondie who runs her music career like a soulless fortune 500 company :oop2:

No mean to be a hater or anything because I actually think 360 slaps in it's own way and I got Club Classics, VD, and B2B on my most replayed songs of this year but this album is just shaping to be another Radical Optimism case where Charli misleads people into thinking this will be a 'club' album. I mean yeah I can see this play in clubs somehowish but the club vibes are barely there and as I've seen others point out with Dua's new album, the psychedelic influences are barely there and if you look away for a split second you'll miss them.

We're just getting glossy, polished, plastic pop with tinges of dance music and hell I love it (360 sounds like XCX World which is very bratty in it's own way) yet this seems more in line of a continuation to the $ellout era. This is definitely not what Charli described intially:

evoking the illegal London rave scene where Charli XCX started performing "when [she] was 14 or 15"

I have to disagree, the remixes of the album tracks she played on her Boiler Room set seem heavily club oriented, and all of the singles so far read as sweaty club bangers to me. and while XCX World is very much a pop album at it’s core, I don’t think it’s fair to call it glossy, polished, plastic pop— not that I think it’s a dirty word or anything— but I think it’s much more experimental and has it’s hard moments, and I think that’s a more apt description for CRASH. I think we’ve gotten so used to the sounds on XCX World that we forget how harsh the album can be at times, like there’s a reason Atlantic shelved it at the time lol. plus, a lot of the songs on XCX World feel very club oriented to me, and she even said as much on interviews at the time

all of the singles so far have been different from each other and I think we’re gonna get different flavors of club-oriented dance/electronic music on the album. I don’t think the Radical Optimism comparisons are accurate since 1) none of the songs sound like they could be on CRASH (imo) 2) I think she’s keeping her promise—I mean Girl, so confusing is very much inspired by the Ed Banger/Uffie mid 2000s club songs that she’s talked on and on over the years about how much she’s influenced by.

again, I think this is a case of where we’ve gotten so used to Charli’s sound that her music just sounds really innocuous to us, but we’re 100% getting a club record and it’s probably gonna go really hard :diva:

Because it's literally about Lorde :toofunny:

    • "We talk about making music, but I don't know if it's honest"
    • "People say we're alike, they say we got the same hair" --> the whole reason why so many people used to compare her to Lorde was cause they both had the big hair. To this day people make Charli = Lorde jokes, which Charli has acknowledged multiple times (recently too).
    • She said the song is about her anxiety around this person, which goes hand in hand with that 360_brat post
    • People aren't out here saying her and Marina look alike cause they got the same hair, they don't have any type of friendship for her to have anxiety over like she does with Lorde, and her and Marina have collabed already in the past so the "one day we might make some music" line wouldn't make sense.
    • That screenshot should be enough proof that it's 100% about Lorde :toofunny:

first time seeing that story. this is why I hated brat exclusives :toofloppy:

girl the conversation ended and then you came in with the “some of y’all missed the point.”

but let’s stop the useless fighting anyways what’s your favorite xcx song?

I only posted that cause I felt like my point was being misunderstood… but I swear it’s nothing personal girl, sorry for coming for you like that. anyways visions :diva:

Yesssss, let’s continue the endless debate about the homophobia, transphobia and fatphobia an artist charli collaborates with happens to experience, just because people expressed their dislike about that artist!! :flutter:

if you don’t care about those issues, that’s on you babes! I’m over that conversation, but since you wanna keep bringing it up then we can go back and forth forever about it. you can go back inside your little echo chamber and kiki all day now if you’d like.

    :bye:

girl go back to ranking charli’s albums since clearly those are the only kinds of discussions you’re interested in having :awkney2:

anyways… speed drive!!! in my city!!! YAWS!!!

  11. some of y’all missed the point. obviously, if the shoe doesn’t fit, then then it doesn’t fit, but the point is not to brush off the very real homophobic, transphobic, and fatphobic backlash that sam has been receiving over just existing as a public person, (which goes hand in hand with the ongoing conservative gay and trans panic) and to recognize that some of that vitriol also comes from a lot of other queers, which is unfortunate.

no one on this thread has said that you can’t criticize their artistry because of they’re part of a “minority” or whatever, so I don’t understand where all of that came from.

…gays are so quick to pull out words like homophobia, fatphobia etc as soon as people express their dislike for a certain (and i’m sorry quite cringy) artist and the mediocre music they are making :awkney2:

the sam smith hate goes far beyond their music being “bad”.

lets not act like conservative media didn’t have a field day with sam’s performances and red carpet looks. and then, like clockwork, the self-hating gays started jumping in on the hate train and repeating their rhetoric.

even the most innocuous photo of sam goes viral on twitter with thousands of people making fun of their appearance, weight, and their overall presentation.

but if you wanna pretend like that’s not an issue then that’s on you :awkney2:

Honestly I think she should take a good 2 years off completely from the spotlight after this album-she’s risking overexposure and people are being quite nasty in some places

    overexposure? girl she’s barely exposed
