I don't know about y'all but this is getting weird for me, lol..

Tell this bitch to stop holding out on us

Here's a totally obvious (pre?)reference to her new character that I just saw from the K-12 tour. We'll probably notice lots more of this stuff in future videos too, so that'll be fun! Reminds me of the Spider Web pic on the calendar, lol. Sidenote, it looks like our thoughts on the "Can't wait 'til I'm out of K-12" tagline were spot on with so many lyrics in Portals alluding to her being unhappy and bored with the state of her career/life. I'm sure she was still having fun, but I don't think she was resonating with her old work that much by the time After School was in production.

Exactly. If I sounded the way she has been, and not only was no one worried about it, but they were also making excuses and pushing me to keep going? I'd be kind of pissed. Not to mention all the people saying things like "this is how she's always sounded", which couldn't be further from the truth. I honestly just can't tell anymore if she's doing all of this for herself, and doesn't care that much about the damage she's acquired, or if she's only still going because no one has sincerely told her to stop yet. I wouldn't care so much myself if it weren't for the fact that you can hear her voice breaking in nearly every song she sings lately, and that she's almost been relying on backing tracks more than her own voice. It's sad.

Once again, we can't have one normal day here.. Moving on, though. I'm excited to see the Void video next month, and I'm hoping it doesn't take much longer after that for her to start filming TV. I have a lot of hope that she'll at least give Sirens it's own video too, if not all of the deluxe tracks. It would make one of the best videos out of the whole album, I think.

@111 not you complaining about this thread and then spamming it.. You know, some of y'all that keep going off about the existence of this thread are exactly the reason it's so annoying in the first place!
-
I mean, it's not that I'm expecting anything genius from TikTok comments. I just find it irritating(even though this is petty compared to most TikTok misinfo) when people start spamming every discussion about her voice with shit like "it isn't damaged, she's just sick!(for like 7 years straight now? Doubt it)" and take that as the facts/start repeating it everywhere. It just further kills discussion in the fanbase, and it can't be good for Melanie's career when she's literally breaking her voice and all of her teenage fans are gaslighting her into thinking it's still perfect. I mean, if she's fine with pushing herself until she can't go anymore, then whatever. But lord, I would not want that to be my life! It makes me feel bad for her.
-
Anyway, has anyone else seen the TikTok stans fighting over Mel's vocal damage? The ones who try to talk about it get treated like they're just shitting on her now, but I remember when all of this first started years ago, and no one acted that sensitive about it then. If anything, people were genuinely worried about her! Her fanbase has gotten so obsessive that they won't even admit when she's injured, like it's some sort of insult. I just think if people keep trying to pass off her extreme vocal damage as "having a hard time in the mask"(like this hasn't been going on since 2016), "she's quitting smoking", "she's just emotional", etc., she'll never actually realise how bad it's gotten and she'll just keep pushing it. At this rate, by 2025 she'll just have to use backing tracks and won't even be able to keep up with her own music. That's not my problem of course, but I think it's alright to express concern that a singer might not even be able to sing one day if they don't change something now.

I see all of those kinds of people as being two steps away from the Gwyneth Paltrow Goop pipeline, but it's the most irritating when it's someone that I'm actually interested in keeping up with. Especially if they used to be a more down to earth persona like Melanie, that quickly turned into the "I'm on a higher level of evolution than you lower life forms" shtick. It kind of gives off narcissistic vibes to me after a certain point too, you know? Either way, I doubt she's being serious with that 99% comment. Girl has been spending a shit ton of time in front of a camera lately, for starters.

Just saw her latest IG post and this "not like the other Earthlings" act is going to get old so fast, lol. Echoing the sentiments about PORTALS being kind of all over the place, though. She needed to either commit to the theme 100% like Cry Baby/K-12, or lean fully into the personal elements and tone down the "past lives" storyline. If she would've taken more time during the writing process to blend the themes between the past lives/toxic relationships/moving on from her past, etc. Portals could've been a 10/10 for me. I just feel like I'm getting 3 different albums when I listen to it, especially with the deluxe tracks.

I would die for Melanie to cover "Busted and Blue" by Gorillaz. It sounds exactly like something that would've come out of the early leaks, especially with the natural ambient sounds in the background and many similar references in the lyrics to Portals' songs. I think her voice would be perfect for it too. It'll never happen of course, but one can dream.
-
Also, I'm sorry but does anyone else find it ironic/hilarious in the worst way seeing her forest fae ads becoming litter? And that caption, lmao. Between this, the NFT shit, etc. etc. I'm kind of laughing a little at this whole aesthetic as cute as it may be. (@RioWarners story on Instagram)

Not even trying to be mean, but wow. I'm continuously impressed by how bad her voice has gotten, and the fact that she continues to stress it when it sounds like that unedited is crazy to me. On one hand, her music is still good, so I guess it doesn't really matter. On the other hand, I don't like the way I feel like I'm being lied to when singers have to alter their voice that much to create that music.

https://www.instagram.com/p/Cq9inxkM8o2/?igshid=YmMyMTA2M2Y= Everyone's merch is just coming fucked up, I guess. I'm well aware that this album wasn't created on the highest budget, but these immediate and numerous quality control issues are ridiculous. Like, was all of this stuff produced on one of those cheap ass "make your own CDs and print your own T-shirts" websites?

I'll probably get banned from the site for this, but am I the only one who would've rather had Fingers Crossed + Needle & Thread over this version of Sirens? I like it a lot, but I'm not going to lie, some of it just isn't for me. Like the "let them drown" part? I don't know why but it just sounds grating to my ears, and I usually love songs like that. I think it could've been perfect with a little more work, and maybe taking bits and pieces from each demo to make the superior studio version. EDIT: Speaking of which, I really prefer the first demo of Sirens to the final version used at the end of the song. The way she sings "they covered their ears, my love. When you sound the alarm, they plan for a storm" is just perfect for me. Hope it comes back around somehow!

If THAT'S AI created, pack it up y'all. Reality is now a dying art.
-
Her little alien persona is really cute but I hope she doesn't keep up with this "thank you so much, human followers! Earthlings, I love you all so much!" shtick too long. Like, I know it's a petty criticism and all, but it just makes her come across as even more of an "I took psychedelics and now I think I'm on a higher plane of being" person than she already is, lol.
-
Even if it was catchy for me, I'll never be able to get past "push your penis into your mouth/just a fairy with a knife"

Some of y'all cannot chill for 5 minutes, I swear to god

Possible inspiration for Maze/Labyrinth V1&2? Located in Manchester, UK. "The cathedral at Chartres has one of the most famous labyrinths in the world. The concept being that a labyrinth is a sacred space where people spend time with god, focusing on their life and journey. However, labyrinths are not just for the spiritual. Labyrinths are used by people of all faiths and none, they provide entertainment, fun, gentle exercise and make an attractive feature within the garden. ... The twists and turns in the paths echo those we take in our everyday lives; the route is winding but it always leads onwards. Take as long as you need, it is not the destination but what we learn on the journey itself."

PLUTO could've been worked onto After School pretty easily, I think. Test Me would have worked nicely for Portals too.

This thread is once again becoming a "days without workplace accidents" sign, forever being turned back to 0

Is PORTALS charting so high because it's actually a #1 hit though, or because we all had to listen to each song 5 times when the album first came out to figure out how we felt about it?
-
This is why I'm still on the fence with POWDER. It's not even the filter itself that bothers me, just the fact that 90% of the lyrics are inaudible through it. I really am interested to hear the unedited version.
