  1. COACHELLA is more relevant than ever. WHAT ABOUT ALL THE CHILDREN WHAT ABOUT ALL THEIR PARENTS Free the kids Free the parents #timesupdonaldtrump read the sign on the Statue of Liberty and abide by it Wouldn't it be something if some DJ somewhere should play it and replay it and replay it (are there any left??? In the 60s this would have been possible)- Isn't it the way the legendary unique once in a generation artists are though. Their music is timeless and the meaning of a song can mean so many things over the years
  2. #resigndonaldtrump #arrestdonaldtrump #timesupdonaldtrump that is an analogy in case one wonders and as for guns is there a way to kill guns without a gun there are NO shootings
  3. as Lana has a personal connection with Daniel Johnston in many ways, look at the brand new commercial for Apple This probably is the biggest national exposure in the USA for Daniel This is jarring, and sad Would be nice to see a US nationwide commercial w/ Lana perhaps a song from Born to Die (too bad they didn't utilize Cola in the Pepsi commercial that is multi-generations here's Daniel's song on the ad- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dar_brj8zdw btw- is there a Daniel Johnston / Lana thread?
  4. Elizabeth Grant presents Lizzie May Lana Gaga the checks are made out to Elizabeth from day one so are the songwriting credits and NO saying someone bought her is just hateful to do.
  5. Wish more people would know her cover from the BBC 1 lounge because this is an instance where one can play someone both her and their version from the lounge (and they recipricate by doing her Video Games) and the 3 great things about this video- her talking voice to start, at 1:05 she is so into the song she lightly taps her nose (that is one of the most adorable moments, isn't it) her voice, and just her/piano . @byronthomas or is it now @itsMr_Thomas and an acoustic guitar Lana in the BBC1 lounge Goodbye Kiss (cover of Kasabian song) (this could be played back to back with Pawn Shop Blues and some others
  6. See post 146 which is a partial article on it... it is an attempt of a compromise of what happened when Lust for Life was released (and was the #1 album debut and the album that was expected to be #1) when two different rappers released and somewhat manipulated the streaming with the use of bots] the link was http://m.hitsdailydouble.com/news&id=311689
  7. it would be interesting to know what the average number of sales both physical and digital is needed to hit the Billboard200 now and after the change in charts in just 2 chart weeks (the new chart Tuesday will be June 15 and the change is June 29
  8. June 9- It's now been 9 weeks (April 7) since Born to Die has charted but it is still on the Alternative Album list A thought comes to mind- is the album readily available in US Stores? Are new copies available or has it been sidelined to add or delete? Enquiring minds would love to know. Because honestly have no clue as to what other reason would be. Will be interesting to see what happens when the new chart method begins June 29 chart. (note as always, this refers solely to the USA sales (if a person outside the country buys the album, it has to come from a USA source, not from any other nation.)
  9. Elizabeth's new album (Elizabeth Grant featuring and presenting Lana Lizzie and Mae) would have been #1 this week, had it been released, based on the numbers Kanye got (even with his sick trolling) SHE would have beat HE (again).
  10. @lanaFlowers Bowie's 1/2 brother Terry Burns, who committed suicide, who was abused badly by his family, and who had mega mental-health problems and extreme sadness (hence the use of Space Oddity) and tying in with my thoughts as mentioned earlier.
  11. nice to see Rick Newells agrees with me from the above interview- Where do you feel this album fits into Lana’s catalog overall? Lana is a career artist, a defining artist of her generation. I see her as a link on the chain along with Bob Dylan, Leonard Cohen, Joni Mitchell, Stevie Nicks, and all the great once in a lifetime singer/songwriters. She’s created her own language and her own genre. She’s always inspired and actively creating her body of work. This album is her next offering.
  12. believe more than 60% of the new album already is in the can completed if not 80% but as Lana in the past thrives on physical sales, it adds to the time needed (as opposed to some of the rappers who go full streaming (who most likely will be at a disadvantage once the new method of charting comes in June 29. basically, after that first week, it is time for the next project which is the greatest for me as I want quantity as the quality is always 100% equal no matter the song and I no longer wish for her to be abused by the press/paparazzi/ stalkers so would love for 3 new albums a year every year (plus some remastered box sets) the less time spent on promo the more time spent on life itself, and on catalogue the older stuff.
  13. not for nothing- stalking is a major crime in california and private property is private property there are cameras all around and advising people to stalk is well, a crime in itself people would not be welcome nor should they once again the message of her songs about the invasion of private space (akin to rape) seems to not get through does it??? And California does not look lightly on this. If one sees something suspicious- REPORT IT.
  14. Please don't die is SOOOOOOOOOOOOO Elton John, both very early (the Elton John and Tumbleweed albums) and then througout his career (Someone saved my life tonight (and butterflies are free to fly, fly away, so fucking high away bye bye) and then his more recent organic songs. If Paul Buckmaster were still alive I would say he had something to do in the production, but he isn't. As I am a big Elton fan, I like the song.
  15. @ it might be a big hit, however, he is only for getting drunk and what appears to be abusing women, not respecting women, so I pass. Plus didn't he rig the current system of charting, so if it was done after June 29, he may or may not get anywhere near the chart numbers he did this time. Can you imagine though the numbers that would come in if BTS or Kris Wu (who is on Lord Grange label) did a song of hers. (and perhaps have Carlos Santana on the record being that the Havana song completely stole "Smooth".
  16. I wouldn't mind a song like the Elton John imitation that JTilman (Father John Misty) does on "Please don't die" (live from the Biggest Weekend)". Amazing how Elton is really so influential in so many artists over the last 50 years Love the piano. Evocative of both very early Elton, and also his immortal hit "Someone saved my life tonight" (and butterflies are free to fly, fly away, so fucking high away, bye bye), and his organic more recent pure albums As to when the release is- million dollar question is- attempt to wait for the new chart methodology or the old...time ticking away Wouldn't it be great if Elizabeth on her next album just had Piano/Vocal/Lana on guitar. That's all
  17. Pure sales of Born to Die is eligible for 3x platinum 1,520,414 (it's up to the record company to officially get the RIAA to audit and do, which Lord Grange has not as of yet done (for whatever reason)
  18. @kitschesque actually, many thought Dietrich did not have a strong voice and there is another version of the same song where she basically just whispers it I used to think Lana was pitch perfect, but I do believe she is more a "metronome" singer when she is writing in her mind and then putting it down I picture a metronome was used in her version of "Once upon a dream" (Art Garfunkel is the same, I can't at this second remember what it is called but he gets into key by quickly blowing into something that brings out a note and then starts singing, a small thing not a kazoo, damn, what is that called) As to Nicks statement, never quite understood it to mean what you do...I think what she was referring to that she is older, Lana younger, but they are equals (in a perfect world, Lana would have replaced Lindsay Buckingham temporarily for the F Mac tour) Lana in her own way is doing what Jerry Garcia and the Dead did in their world Lana does power ballads that build very well, only she is not shouting like a Robert Plant or Meatloaf, or Springsteen. (who should do her songs) (and maybe one day one of them will) Here is the version I alluded to above, of "Where have all the Flowers Gone" By Marlene Dietrich where she basically is almost speaking it softly brings a tear to the eyes in its subtle forcefullness
  19. This is the type of song I wish she would sing From another contralto the legendary and much like Lana Marlene Dietrich (this is the English version, the German version is even better) of this Pete Seeger Song (and Lana, Edith, Marlene all part of the resistance to trumphitler) Jazz Folk Cabaret Protest...(who gives a fucking shit what the label is, music is music. One don't need to give a label to everything.) After all, what is a Label except for something on a Soup Can and Soup Cans can be worth tens of millions of dollars (Warhol) or not even 10 cents Marlene Dietrich Where have all the flowers gone https://youtu.be/8KLNwPppKTM
  20. Symetrical What we know now, what was not known then I find it amazing that Lana was documenting the horrors of fame from Day 1 A quartet of songs some needing to see the video, some inherent in their lyrics Video Games Gods & Monsters High By the Beach 13 Beaches and how fame rapes and abuses young women, aspiring entertainers and rears its ugly head to ruin ones life in a never ending cycle where one cannot get away and where the paparazzi is the devil in disguise and how they abuse and manipulate so that a point of view making the person they are shooting look the worst they possibly can The video of "Video Games" which to all extent and purpose it is know that Lana herself created and edited herself long prior to her later success (and the surprise to her that anyone would actually see it) where paparazzi footage of Ms. de la Huerta was used, and in perfect symmetry the trial of the (for legal purposes) alleged perv power serial abuser H.W. just yesterday leading to the arrest and the being booked of Harv. (entering the court room with the paparazzi in full force showing the image HW tried to show (the old man routine carrying what appeared to be a bible and some books??? that is laughable being that Cosby attempted at one point to do the exact same thing) Being that Lana herself made the video way at the start, when she had zero way of knowing anyone would see it shows a keen sense of a historical documentary creator. Observing, using what is observed, and not exploiting, but showing how the paparazzi are the ones using and exploiting to show a person at their worst, solely to take a picture that they instantly hawk Which aligns her once again with the late singer songwriter Harry Chapin, who started out his career making documentaries one of which was nominated for an Academy Award. One can imagine in both cases that had they not ventured into poems, lyrics, music, and the record industry, that they both could have risen in the ranks of movie documentary and feature film creations.(which it appears more and more Chuck is aiming to do and doing it well, as so important was Chuck's Honeymoon cover & shots, and the shot of the boat and deck coming into play in High By the Beach (where Lana at the start of the song (that we later know is a helicopter) almost appears to be drowing and breathing underwater and how in concert, the perfect usage of the camera and really needing to watch the screens and get oneself away from their phone and watch the creation of 13 Beaches come to life through the screenwork, which was to me totally innovative. (and only working seeing it live over and over and over again on tour (where it was much easier to see from the seats and away from that dreaded first row). and being that Coachella uses much of the same (including the drum) of Video games, and being that Coachella is the song that directly shatters what came before to what comes next... tbc may 26, 2018 745am edt
  21. Who is Ron Pope and why is he relevant? Does he have product coming out that he is pushing so he name drops her? as to Audrey Hepurn, I could picture her on the boardwalk looking behind her at everyone who can't keep up while she eats icecream, and goes in a new direction no one anticipated, while singing Salvatore. (I originally thought Cardinale or Loren, but Audrey makes sense too.)
  22. at the risk of being called all sorts of things, actually @@TerrenceLovesMe post 4647 I recall no such thing, nor heard anything resembling any official source that it would be here in April. Would you provide a verified link to a verified source? A box set of non-released stuff would work at the end of the year, but not in April unless one is remastering Born to Die / Paradise and now it appears a full length shall be released, no need for any EP
  23. @@Cherry on Top @cherryontop regarding post 4638 where you complained my post #4630 that you said was too long, here is the graham4anything CliffsNote version- thinking out of the box, kill the concept of time altogether in regards to the life cycle of output by a poet/songwriter/singer a brand new album every month of every year forward compose it add the music production release it no publicity, no waste of time extraneous stuff, just the thoughts, compositions, albums and don't worry about charts or sales Only thing that matters is the output being that 100% of every song ever released has been great, no filler. everyone profits including Lord Grange.
  24. speaking of Burnt Norton- I was thinking out of the box, to kill the concept of time altogether in regards to the life cycle of a poet/songwriter/singer past norm what to me personally would be really great is- a brand new album every month of every year forward compose it add the music production release it no publicity, no waste of time extraneous stuff, just the thoughts, compositions, albums and don't worry about charts or sales (in reference, I think back to Stephen King and how 22 years ago, he delighted the world with "The Green Mile" in its originally release 6 months 1 92 page chapter in a 6 chapter book released each month...I remember June July August running to the store to get the (paperback as it was originally released) and all 3 days were sunny warm and beautiful and taking a float into the lake and reading the entire 92 pages in a couple of hours at the end of the day, all that matters is the output. (because next time there is a bad song, would mark the very first time there was a bad song by her. She has never had one). ====================================================================================================== STEPHEN KING'S THE GREEN MILE- ====================================================================================================== The Green Mile was first published in six low-priced paperback volumes. The first, subtitled The Two Dead Girls was published on March 28, 1996, with new volumes following monthly until the final volume, Coffey on the Mile, was released on August 29, 1996. The novel was republished as a single paperback volume on May 5, 1997. On October 3, 2000, the book was published in its first hardcover edition (ISBN 978-0743210898). In 2007, Subterranean Press released a 10th anniversary edition of the novel in three different versions, each mimicking the original six-volume release: the Gift Edition, limited to 2,000 copies, containing six unsigned hardcover volumes of each separate part, housed in a slipcase; the Limited Edition, limited to 148 numbered copies, and signed by Stephen King, housed in a slipcase; and the Lettered Edition, limited to 52 lettered copies, and signed by Stephen King, housed in a traycase. Every edition contained new illustrations by Mark Geyer, the novel's original illustrator. Each version had its own design, and cost $150, $900, and $2,500, respectively.[1] There were other versions published as well, including a "pocketbook" sized hardcover by Paw Prints (ISBN 9781439182789).[2] Note- for reference- these are the original dates "The Green Mile" was released chapter by chapter... from wiki- The Two Dead Girls March 28, 1996 92 pp ISBN 978-0451190499 The Mouse on the Mile April 25, 1996 96 pp ISBN 978-0451190529 Coffey's Hands May 30, 1996 96 pp ISBN 978-0451190543 The Bad Death of Eduard Delacroix June 27, 1996 96 pp ISBN 978-0451190550 Night Journey July 25, 1996 96 pp ISBN 978-0451190567 Coffey on the Mile August 29, 1996 144 pp ISBN 978-0451190574
  25. American in my one two punch at the time was Ride/Paradise and my favorite song on Paradise, and I always from day one have pictured Barack Obama as being who she was singing about (and Like being Like as in a facebook like). and on Ride, she is refering to Gram Parsons & the Byrds while flying down the highway blasting the music on her satelite radio show (of which there was one) (it is not birds it is BYRDS) Paradise was an album that kept giving and giving in which songs I appreciate more later on (like gods and monsters) also how it was a concept album of staid girl, bored girl taking the journey from heaven to hell on her road trip from NY to LA and the gods and monsters that were lined up in Hollywood USA after which Ultraviolence was the horror not realized of seeking fame (nightmare) leading into the battle between Elizabeth and Lana, of which Lana now is a mere part of after Elizabeth won the battle as it lead to Lust for Life. (and 13 beaches expanding on the emotional/physical rape of High by the beach) remember 2/3 of every song is one thing, 1/3 is something else One thing that is amazing is that both Isabella's and Lana's version of Blue Velvet is so much better than Bobby Vinton's sweet blue velvet.
