  1. glad someone else sees it is a waltz (NME article). My wife said I was nuts.
  2. also sweeping in a Bernard Herrmann sort of way ...the beginning notes somewhat like his Hitchcock scores Vertigo or Northby Northwest or his last two scores Taxi Driver and Obsession(which was a Vertigo homage by DePalma)
  3. Lana is #1 on the Billboard real time Top 140 http://realtime.billboard.com/?chart=trending140 (if someone can post it I can't get it to show up)
  4. @@thatsomason- obviously.Henry died June 14, 1994. So it's actually 21 years, but like all legends, the music is eternal. (I can still recall where I was the first time I heard he hit #1 on the WABC music radio survey with his version of the theme from Romeo and Juliet that summer of 1969... I had a long talk with him one of the last times he was in NYC prior to his death. and yes, I can picture Henry at the piano here. (Kudo's to whomever is the piano player on the track, don't think that info has been released yet.) Hope its @MrBironic Byron Thomas, one of the coolest piano player these days
  5. and to add- Henry Mancini I can picture Henry Mancini at the piano (edit to add- Henry scored hundreds of movies, in particular had a #1 song in 1969 with the Theme from Romeo and Juliet (which he did not score but arranged it from Nino Roto's score, and was the underlying melody of Lana's "Old Money") It's like a 6 minute history of the movies (picture scenes from all the legendary Film Noir, picture Double Indemnity, picture Postman always rings twice, picture any Robert Mitchum movie)
  6. OMG shivers again lana hits it out of the park and on the first listen. Evocative, especially (though I doubt some will see it) of YAYO and wow, it's dark, dark, dark BRAVO!!! once again, when one thinks how in hell will Lana surpass the last 350 songs where each one surprasses the other, and wham, Lana does it again. It is one helleva great song. The legend lives on.
  7. Brian Wilson gave up the road for decades, didn't do promo for years, and today, 60 years on, he has not only survived, he will never be forgotten. It was the songwriter, the music in his head, the music he took years to get out correctly, and in the end, he won. When the time came, he didn't buy it, they came running back to him. Being an artist is making art. Being an art dealer, the art dealer sells the art, not the artist. The work stands alone if it is artistic. Those that have to keep selling themselves don't have the merchandise standing alone. When one goes to the Louvre or the Met, one doesn't expect the artist to be there. In fact, most great works of art prior to the baby boomer era and more recent from then, only happened after the artist died. Thankfully, Lana doesn't resort to an Ariana Grande stunt licking donuts in a donut shop to get noticed. Sickening thing Ariana Grande did to get publicity.
  8. @@leaked_version_vision---imagine, another negative post from leaked_vision. Yeah, because a #1 album and a gold record is a bomb. Yeah, and say it a million times and it still is not true A #1 album and gold in an age when no one buys records anymore is actually the same thing as a 10 million sold record years ago. Remember too that some of Paradise's sales were considered Born to Die hey leaked-vision- if a #1 ain't important, why did it mean so much that Sam Smith never got to #1 then and still now. Not to mention, if it wasn't important, then why a few weeks ago did James Taylor celebrate that after 45 years of releasing records, he finally got his first #1? and my post might have been misinterpreted above- I was referring to the fact that no one on this board needs any promo at all for Honeymoon, because every single person here knows it is coming out. Those who are fans will purchase it, while those who are not won't purchase it, and will they did purchase it and it sucks. Reminds me of reading comments on youtubes or other places- why do people waste their time posting negative comments on someones youtube when they instead could be listening to someone they actually like
  9. Ultraviolence went #1 with no US TV and almost no promo and went Gold. Went to #1. and the head of her record company thought enough of her to feature her on his cover on Billboard. (along with Kanye West). He could have picked three dozen other label people, but Lana was chosen. Why would I want Lana to be Beyoncé? Beyoncé is already Beyoncé, and its a totally different market for Beyoncé. Doesn't affect Lana at all, nor did the other 25 that are like Beyoncé but none of which are Lana. And for her to sit through inane morning and late night talk shows, where the hosts make themselves the news (Can you picture Kelly Ripa actually caring about who she interviews? Next time will be the first.) People are not doing promo in 2015 that they did 10 years ago. It's not much of a prediction to think Honeymoon will debut at either #1 or #2
  10. Glad the board came back this time quicker than a few weeks ago...anyhow- Aside from song videos I know I don't need any promo at all. I am buying the album the day it comes out, in every single format and in every store where there is something added specific to that store. Download included. Spotify, apple, etc. Promo doesn't get me to buy something I already am buying. (I can see why other artists need it, as I am not buying them unless they sell me something I want.) And my word of mouth will tell others and hopefully they will pick it up if they want to. Went to six shows recently, will go next year. So, why do we need promo? I like the selfies she puts up, both the natural shots, and the message clue shots. I think we all might have mistaken the instagram with the dog. If the stories about some one breaking into her house, that would coincide with the dog, so I think that was a sign that it was a guard dog, and telling those to not get in her personal space.
  11. @heartcore- that would be a cool ep. If Priscilla would give permission for an official duet with Elvis (they seem to do a new one every other year or so).
  12. Hallmark's two tv networks are having a Christmas in July week but singers normally record the Christmas stuff in the summer so its ready to go What time period did she do "Have yourself a merry little Christmas"? Is it new (meaning its coming this year? Or just never leaked/never released?
  13. Radio stations across America switch to all-Christmas/Holiday music in November throughout December (some starting even earlier) What Christmas song / Holiday song should Lana do, and if she were to do a duet, with whom? (an original song would be great, but let's say its a known Christmas song- I would love to see Lana and Leonard Cohen hook up and do a revival of Bing Crosby & David Bowie "Peace on Earth/Little Drummer Boy" (or perhaps also leave Bing on the record so there could be a Lana and Bing duet. Lana and Lou Reed- maybe it could be possible to splice together a duet with a Christmas song or two Lou Reed sang. (there exists tapes on this). Johnny Mathis who still sounds as good as ever at 79. One thing a Christmas song would do is guarantee radio airplay/ streaming/ downloads each year for 2 months.
  14. To all the haters/unbelievers who said/say she wasn't genuine, this proves more than 10 years ago, indeed, Allen Ginsberg and Leonard Cohen and Phil Ochs were major influences And that the message of the Reservations was inner peace and harmony. Indeed, Brooklyn Baby rings true. So why do places still today say there is no proof she was May Jailer? The proof always has been there. One day looking forward for a Grateful Dead like 80 CD/LP box set except much larger
  15. nice ad-hominem spewing there on my (and when one resorts to those type of remarks on the internet, shows that one can't answer the response, so goes into tearing down the poster (in this case, me). I was just attempting to dissect the inner meaning of the OP and gave a response that was 100% on topic of the OP. The OP is using a common technique that starts off both as a negative, and sexist. Most of the negative toward Lana Del Rey from reporters over the years and including SNL barbs by Brian Williams of NBC News and many others (all negative) was sexist Until UV came out and some of the haters turned into fans by realizing that oops, they weren't able to get rid of her, now they had to acknowledge her and people like Black Keys Dan, and Jack White apologized and knew they couldn't keep being negative on her, as their own credibility was now in question by their original harse negative, sexist judgement. BTW- Robert Plant, whom I used as an ANALOGY is 1970s. Sure, he was a session player in the 1960s but his fame started in the 1970s and continues today in a lesser extent now solo, and no longer on the merry go round of the Led Zeppelin days (much to the wanting otherwise of the two other living members who wish he would just reuinite and make billions for them) The OP was placed in shows. My remarks about Robert Plant were about his shows and his command of the audience, something Ms. Grant has mastered in this tour. I don't compare her to any music act 2001-2015 as there are none to compare her to. My point being Lana has long ago transcended the other artists today, and though most kids are not seeing it, or weren't there, what she is like the superstar album acts in music history (the ones that don't care if they get #1 singles, but their albums almost all go Top 10. (and many released video (wasn't called that back then, but it was similar) in lieu of single play. Same acts that since have after a decade or two or three, release amazingly huge box sets of all their materials. And never are any of the male artists ever dissected the way Lana is dissected. Their personal life wasn't for the most part talked or delved into. There was no talk about their professional persona vs personal persona. And countless 1960s 1970s artists changed their name but there was not the negative back and forth as to who is who. (most people really had no idea/clue as to where many of the legends came from or that they had a different name, that they played different music However, the lyrics of Ms. Grant are very consistent from the earliest to the most recent. (and the few that actually are call-outs to either specific persons or the negative press (including Money/Power/Glory & I *'d my way to the top which are both tongue in cheek and actually opposite meaning but hitting the critics that hurt her (and all negatives in the press hurt even the strongest of artists/people) Any even quick glance at the songs/lyrics of Ms. Grant from day one to the latest one today, show one persona. Herself. Like a great writer, the lyrics today like the lyrics then, are herself in the moment or talking about an event of the person. The music also transcends the production. (to use an example- if she does the written for Nina Simone's "Don't let me be misunderstood" had the same lyrics that Ms. Simone sang, that later the Animals took to the top as a rock/hard rock almost psychedelic song, and that even later was turned into a dance music top of the chart song by Santo Esmeraldo in the disco 70s. The lyrics were the same. If Ms. Grant wanted to, she could do an unplugged concert just have one piano or one guitar and vocal of her latest songs Or, if Ms. Grant wanted to, she could do a UV type production on her earliest material. One thing remains constant- the singer and the lyrics. It's all Ms. Grant, the writer/singer who has transcending the modern age. She didn't disappear like her critics thought would have happened after SNL. But then again, I never thought she would in the first place. As the old cliché goes "What doesn't kill you, makes you stronger", and there is no one more secure in their place in the music industry as Lana Del Rey. She could disappear for 40 years, and in 41 years, people would fill the audience awaiting her return -much like in the UK, another ancient artist (mostly unknown to teenagers today) from the 1970s (whom I saw live back then, singing a few songs in one of her very rare USA live performances), Kate Bush did after having not done concerts in decades. Hopefully, to her supporters, Ms. Grant won't make people wait 40 years at any point in her life. (Unless she wants to, which is her right, it's her life not ours).
  16. sorry but the OP is a gotcha. Not a discussion. The wording is framed as a typical gotcha type to pull the repliers into a set response which sorry, but I don't bite and I won't give an answer specific that indicates I fell for a gotcha. Too many negative articles on Ms. Grant over the years do the same thing. Frame in the first paragraph (and there have been so many, perhaps some don't even realize it is being done(in the press/media, not referring to any poster.) My response answers the OP perfectly. Perhaps ask Robert Plant if he has a "persona" or is his solo persona or Zep persona or duet with Alison Kraus persona separate or one of the same. Perhaps ask Roy Orbison the same. Nobody did (whatever the classification in 2015 is (sad rock, tragicrock, death rock, emo, etc.) it better. (btw, Roy never changed clothes, Roy never pranced the stage, Roy never did anything on stage but sing. He mastered the stage though. The black and white sessions showed how superstars bigger than him, were in awe of every breathe he took (including Bruce and Elvis C.)
  17. Without you and Black Beauty perfectly ARE Elizabeth Grant. After having surpassed just about every single female rocker /singer/ female led band (not talking top 40 but talking rock/ album rock and left all the others behind this year's tour (having seen (was it 6 or 7) different shows, I can now honestly say she is now in the realm of Robert Plant/ Led Zeppelin (who never went for #1 hits and kept their focus on albums (and not all that many in total actually). or a female Bruce Springsteen (who also did not avidly go for and never has had a #1 song, he had a bunch of top 10 at his very biggest) It is incredible how she masters the stage, she OWNS the stage. It is hers. Every person who WANTS to be there is under the spell. She and Robert Plant don't do the same type of show. Plant prances and struts, but he owns the stage And I only noticed it this year perhaps because of Serial Killer. Her MOAN in Serial Killer IS Robert Plant grunts/screams If she does nothing else, she could at any time over the next 40 years come back and do anything and it will be listened to, it will be analyzed, it will be attended long as anyone who was around the last number of years she has been here is still here. She already has insured her place And hitting 30, she is secure in her place and while there will be dozens of new people that will come and go, perhaps all name dropping her, and perhaps like those country people who begged to have a duet with Willie Nelson (the king of duets), which over the years may or may not happen, she will stand. And like in Without You (and oddly enough something I myself always say too- money and material possessions can't buy time, can't buy happiness and can't buy love Love is the ultimate goal and throughout that is the message. Personal and professional. Perhaps she should cover or do a duet with Tom Jones on "Without Love" there is nothing at all. (from 1968) (btw-the OP's prior posts have to be taken into consideration, and why do I get the feeling this thread was meant in a negative not positive way?)
  18. Roy Orbison's Love So Beautiful If there was ever a song crying out for Lana, it is that one. If Roy didn't suddenly die, it most likely would have been the third single from his amazing comeback album that had just been released. Roy's song was used at the end of a Robert Redford Demi Moore movie "Indecent Proposal" (Redford the older man, Demi was 30 when it was made) Not only that, the start of the after he died, officially released Roy Orbison video for the song was eerily like Lana's Ride. Actually, I don't want fast. (no, not going to quote the line from "American", but I would love a whole album like "once upon a dream".or Black Beauty or Video Games. I am happy with 80-100-120 bpm for the official tracks from Honeymoon, (maybe a couple of faster ones for bonus songs.)
  19. She said she was coming back next year, so why wouldn't she. (It might be in the next two years. It is possible next year she may do a festival in your area and not individual show She was just in Atlanta and it was a great show. And it was just voted the #1 tour of the year in Billboard Magazine. If she is anywhere within 3 hours, you should go next time she is around.
  20. Well it's her personal life, but Lana and Barrie made beautiful music together, and in West Coast she does sing she is leaving you for now so perhaps he will at a later time catch her on the Flipside. He never went back overseas did he? But it's her personal business and none of mine. (Then again I always thought Heathcliff and Cathy always belonged together and what a waste of time till they finally did but it was too late, and I always thought Dorothy on Golden Girls should have gone back with Stanley so what do I know).
  21. Without You and Lolita Also just finished listening to 49 songs on Spotify.
  22. This is great and important. Billboard matters. and the Negative Nellies can't take it away. Not to mention the great advance publicity it gives it for Honeymoon
  23. In case anyone doesn't know- my comment on Stephen Colbert in response #226- In September he is starting after replacing the now retired David Letterman and in this show- he will be The real Stephen Colbert, he won't be playing a character as he was on his political show It will be a regular talk show with monologue/skits/actors/singers/etc. September 8 is the first show I think.
  24. I love the way she sings the word Pleasurable I have been a big Pet Shop Boy fan since Day 1, and Neil Tennant over the years sang words like no one else until Lana came along Check the way he sings Vulnerable in the same titled song Many of the PSB songs are very dark (one day would love a Lana / Pet Shop boy duet) The highly literate song "being boring" is very how do you say Lanaesque in its symbolism
  25. @carcrashbandicot If Lana does TV, how great would it be if she was the first guest singer or first week, on the new Steve Colbert show in September. I would assume she never wants to have anything to do with NBC again (especially as they are keeping internet bully Brian Williams who said that awful thing about her), so that would take away Fallon and Meyers and the Today Show. CBS where she had the very successful Letterman appearance would seem like a great fit. And everyone is going to be watching Colbert the first week he is on If the timing is right, and someone high up thinks of doing this, and if Colbert's booker is cool and hip, it would be perfect
