"Honeymoon" Song/Video Preview (UPDATE: 2nd Snippet)
graham4anything replied to Sitar's topic in New Releases
as with everything she does, sounds good to me. And the storyline continues...I do think Honeymoon is not going to be a happy honeymoon, and I myself thought the tour name Endless Summer was being misinterpeted Not an endless tour, but Summer as a season of life, and now as she turns 30, she soon will be entering the poetic last days of summer and first days of Fall/Autumn, and the realities of life. The maturity shown in the stage shows, and the full dominance/mastering of the stage itself this time, (am I the only one to once again think Lana is now as potent on stage as say Robert Plant but I mean vocally, not the way Robert runs all over the stage), as opposed to past concerts, the more knowing, the more playful, the more smiles, etc. I almost think that is why Lana did Serial Killer. Do hope Serial Killer is put on the album or a bonus track on some configuration. (Can we hope that the extra studio time is to insert some more songs or bonus songs, like a new mix of Serial Killer? I wonder, if the album is surprised release at a moments notice, how will that effect bundled purchases (which normally are purchased in advance), and also the vinyl box. Can't wait for the full song. I expect it to be coming out shortly. (now back to catching up on more posts missed the last two/three weeks. At least 30 more pages in the other Honeymoon thread to go.) -

Hey everyone...after 6 or was it 7 shows and 2 weeks away since I last posted the night of the Governors Ball (didn't the board go down right after that?), I got 40 pages to catch up on this thread and others Just read an interesting article on how the timing of the Billboard charts is happening next week so all the more strategy is going into place in getting a new release to #1. (Now it will be Friday new album release day instead of Tuesday and the new charts will be revealed Tuesday instead of Thursday starting in 2 weeks. Then one has to find a week where no one else who is big is releasing a new one (and hope no one who is big also does a surprise release And what a few weeks it has been in America. Hey if finally 100 years too late they can remove all the Confederate Flags in America anything in the world one dreams is possible. (now back to catching up ...I am on page 179 of 218.) -

She was suppose to end at 1030 and did. She started 915 and ended 1030 as schedule. and she smiled a bunch of times . Don't recall on stage her doing that last year. And thanked the crowd after Video Games before going into the last song. -

I was at the show, there is a lot of misinformation in this thread about the governor's ball. She played the allotted time she was scheduled to play. Don't believe the negativity. Probably weren't even at the show. I gotta go to sleep. My aching feet from all the walking. -
Randall's Island, NYC @ Governors Ball - June 7th, 2015
graham4anything replied to Gecko's topic in 2015 Endless Summer Tour
Just got back. If I had to guess, I would say there must have been 40-50,000 or more people watching Lana. The entire area and more was wall to wall. It's going to be a packed week with Boston and DC coming up. The weather was weird for June. It was really hot in the afternoon, but got really cold waiting for her to go on, then it got hot again. Great set too btw, and band sounded great. Really great Serial Killer, Video Games, Shades of Cool, Ultraviolence, Chelsea, and especially Brooklyn Baby Lana looked great in a sort of NY Yankee shirt. more tomorrow One other thing- every act was on time and played the allotted time specified in advance. Only bad thing was that food was nowhere near where Lana played, nor in any of the VIP tents. Drinks/sodas yes. And the walking was forever from the ferry to the entrance (and back) and from one end to the other. Also, could not find any Lana items for sale except for the Endless Summer shirt, and the Governors Ball shirts.. -
Although I shouldn't bother and they say don't feed the trolls- to the Debbie Downer Negativity person that came here looking to put lana down with one negative post after another- If she only started with 13 instead of 15 or 16 at first show (and also in Canada), which two or three songs that she has done on all the other shows would you have cut? Five songs from her brand new album were done (from Ultraviolence) Chelsea was done Serial Killer was done So instead of the 13 being sung at some shows , which songs would you have cut? Would you cut Video Games, Cola, Off to the Races, Summertime Sadness, Born to die? As all the tickets to all the shows were on sale long before the first concert, it's bullshit that someone says they only purchased their seats to see 15 songs or 16 songs and not 13 The tickets were cheaper than many other acts to start off with, and she was contracted for 75 minutes not more than two hours. If she played 100 songs, the Debbie Downers would want her to play 102 songs. Such crap. Such bullshit. And anyhow, where on the tickets does it say how many songs one will sing? Maybe we should toss you a pity party
-
This is somewhat random but- Lana should sing "Ode To Billie Joe" tonight in her show. Being that today is after all The third of June. If ever there was a song that would fit her perfectly this one is it (from 1967)

Lorde is a publicity hound. She loves being in the spotlight Yet she only had one album where all during the run-up to it, she name dropped Lana a million and one times then after she made it, seemed never to mention her again (used her then tossed her out like most people in Lana's life), Lorde just fired her management and is dating one person after another in the public eye ala Taylor Swift. The comparison is what??? No one will remember Lorde a few years from now. So she is using her Andy Warhol 15 minutes of fame as long as possible. When she sings a song about Royals and then has a hit, much like the Clash found, whining about not having becomes hard to do when the public knows they know have. That is the problem Lorde has. Also, she is not unique so there is nothing overly special about her. She acts like she is a younger Lindsay Lohan. Leave them wanting more, the most successful entertainment slogan ever. as for the comment on Stevie Nicks- money is relative to someone like Stevie Nicks or Elton John when one lives expensive one needs more money than the average person. They say Elton spends $50 grand a month on flowers. More than most people make in a year. His prerogative to do so, So in his older age he is still touring all the time in arenas and will do so even when cutting back, and he has hundreds of songs he wrote that royalties come in. Mike Nesmith of the Monkees always refused to do a long time reunion with the others because he was rich off his mother's invention of wite-out. Mom died, times changed, no one needs wite-out anymore and after Davy Jones died, Mike immediately re-upped with the Monkees and now does autograph signings to rake in the bucks. Where was Mike when Davy was alive, and Mickey and Peter could have used the big money for a real reunion? (Nothing wrong with money, but it's all relative to the individual.) imho
-
Money. People seem to forget, Lana does not need money. So she does not need to tour nor make money from merchandise and doesn't live the life of a celebrity (press 24/7/365). Not needing money frees people who are creative to do as they wish and not be beholden to, money making ventures solely for the sake of money The artists listed above for the most part, all need to make millions to sustain their celebrity life style where they waste millions of dollars in a cycle (Britney Spears, etc. And yet, with all the costume changes in her act, constantly there are reports she lip syncs the whole show, making it more like one of the tribute shows or circus shows using a stars music. Lana doesn't need the money (and there is nothing wrong with her having money.) Stevie Nicks needs money so she sucks it up, reunites with Fleetwood Mac and they tour together, much like the Eagles do, who hate each other but rake in 100s of millions to sustain their lifestyles (nothing wrong with that, it is how they need to bring in money and do so to do so) I think for instance, let's use Kate Bush as an example- Kate disappeared for basically a decade or two, hasn't toured since 1979, barely ever toured to begin with, came to America I think only 3 times (had the pleasure of meeting her each time she was here), hates to fly and it takes a long time on a boat. She comes back (was it because people like Lana have claimed her territory?) or did she need money? Fame or money, there had to be a reason (most likely both, and most likely not only the money coming in for the shows, but Kate specifically did not allow cameras/selfies saying she wanted people to enjoy one on one the experience, but come on, obviously a life concert release will happen (Perhaps a pay per view in the movie theatres (Fathom events in USA???) then PBS then all the other ways things are released all without leaving the UK Yet no word on whether or not she will ever do any more concerts especially any outside of England. It seems doubtful. Personally, I prefer seeing a singer singing and if I want to see a show, I go to Broadway and see one there. Seems Kate Bush did 1/2 the show in a performance piece with helicopters fish and water and drowning etc. But that is not concert. That is show. And she ignored every single song that got people to like her in the first place. (it would be equal to Lana not singing any single song from anything she has so far done, and will do the next five years). I do think that was a slap in the face by Kate Bush to those that spent thousands worldwide to attend the one and only place she was singing at. Most of which bought the tickets prior to having any idea what she was doing. (but she had costume changes and a stage show, oh boy!)(sarcasm) Last time I really cared about costume changes was Elton John at the height of his popularity and seeing how outrageous his next one would be. (The entrance in 1976 MSG in NYC dressed as the Statue of Liberty has to be the greatest, no one can top that along with dressing as Donald Duck in his Central Park NYC show). as for length, if Lana did 2 more songs, people would want 3 more. If she did 10 more songs, people would want 20 more. How does the saying go? It's not how long it is... as Rick Nelson wrote and sang "Seems you can't please everyone, so you got to please yourself"

I was reading a couple of weeks ago, that the estate of Nina Simone and some of the family members have renewed a rights squabble and that it might mean problems for what was a simple allowing of songs being sung and recorded by other artists. This has nothing directly to do with Lana, excepting for the fact that Lana announced Don't let me be misunderstood as being on her Honeymoon album prior to this rights fight among heirs and lawyers of Simone's property rights companies. While Nina didn't write it, the three people credited wrote it for her. Wonder if anyone here knows about whether the fight could affect it being allowed to be used. Also, could it be possible if there was a problem, that Lana was then going to use the Peggy Lee song (which she sang in the first show this year) that was used in Roger Rabbitt in place of Misunderstood? Again, the rights fight has nothing to do with Lana at all specifically, unless it stops all artists from using any of her songs. Google- Nina Simone's songs in limbo as Sony Music battles family over secret deal " from Billboard magazine May 6, 2015 -
Keep the customer wanting more. And for the relatively cheap price of the tickets (the GA tickets are some of the cheapest for a major star), one is more than getting their money worth. Gordon Lightfoot never did encores and shows were always short. And many of the songs are long, so basically 13 longer songs=25 songs if the songs were all three minutes. The show is compact. Non stop. No encore, but no waste of 20 minutes waiting for someone to come back for the encore and the waste of time of changing clothes while the backup singers and band perform. Also, it is not stadiums or arena, where the majority of the names you listed are playing longer shows. The Beatles played if lucky, about 30 minutes on their first couple of tours, and really, this is only Lana's 2nd US tour. Most 1960s artists in their prime played short shows. And Pet Clark and Nancy Sinatra didn't even do an hour at their solo shows. And many also do medley's of five or six songs strung together.

Swan Song was the record label Led Zeppelin formed in the excess 70s when every star got their own label. Perhaps its a conspiracy theory clue Perhaps a duet with Robert Plant and a guitar solos from Jimmy Page Or perhaps Lana will replace Robert who doesn't want to be in a revived Zep and go on tour ala Adam Lambert and Queen (just joking here, I think, though can you dig Lana singing Zep's songs, I bet Dan Auberbach would have an orgasm thinking about it. ( Perhaps the Black Swan herself, Natalie Portman will be in the mix Do you know, Black Swan records was one of the first record labels, and was a black owned label at that for old smokie jazz artists and Civil rights activist WEB DuBois was on the Board of Directors Coincidence? -
Ultraviolence is both my favorite album of all time, surpassing Elton John's Captain Fantastic and the Brown Dirt Cowboy, and all the others, it is going to be considered one of the best of the 2000-2025 period and all time. Maybe years from now, someone is going to make a Broadway Musical out of it, and then a movie out of it (or the reverse). While it most likely won't star Lana, it will be her Tony Award winner. And be considered perhaps in a trilogy of Sunset Blvd/Mullholland Drive & Ultraviolence. The prior two really about American culture Hollywood etc.

@@alltoowell and @@theeternalstars The difference is- The record people now say, Get me or find me a Lana Del Rey type but make her commercial (or in the Sam Smith case make him more commercial) Then make sure the new people or the remolded older people namecheck Lana until it hits, then ignore her afterward So Lana Del Rey became the new prototype Just like Madonna was after Madonna, get me a new younger Madonna soundalike dress alike without Madonna baggage so to say and having worked country music in the 80s/90s it happened there when the "New country" came in. It wasn't that the sounds of the prior to 1989 superstars were no longer wanted (except for a little musical background updating) They wanted a young new Waylon Jennings and George Jones and Conway Twitty and Loretta Lynn and Tammy Wynette who then namedropped George Jones and Johnny Cash and then George Strait and Garth Brooks came in and the record people said Get me a new Strait and a new Brooks and drop check their names and 100 hat acts came along saying they grew up on Waylon and George Strait Or get me 100 more Shania Twain after she came out So now you have many more commercial Lana's out there, all get more radio airplay, and all are faceless and will disappear soon as the radio people want something else Which leaves Lana being Lana. As someone asked before NO I don't want nor need a stage show where it is obviously like Britney or the others lipsynched because no one can do acrobatics and sing that way. I just want the singer to sit or stand and sing the songs that drove me to go out of my way, spend money to buy the cds and vinyl and download and concert tickets at full price as often as possible and don't need a million costume changes. I didn't come for the clothes anymore then anyone on stage came to look at me. Yes, I will still be there if she was no longer young and beautiful . And yes I will run run run to the appropriate places to download and purchase the vinyl/cd and come come come to the concerts and listen or sing along even if it means driving 6 hours to Virginia or 4 hours to Boston or spending an entire day on Randall's Island in NY to see a 915 performance. I would not be going there if she were not performing. Note to Florence or Marina fans, I am not going Friday or Saturday with them performing. Kudos to their fans for doing such. Kudos to every artist who is singing. But in music history there are only a handful of unique people and in the 2000-2020 days two of those are Lana and Gaga. With a few more. Hope she sings a new Honeymoon song at Governor's ball, but I won't be disappointed if she doesn't. Would want a full band performance of it and not a snippet without the band. But I understand there are logistics and rights and all that. And I look forward for each chapter of the long running book that is Lana. (and if there are those that don't like what I said, there is the ignore button) -

re:Florence's new one- I read Taylor Swift heavily influenced Florence on this, speaking to her. Which is ironic because Lana directly influenced Taylor's pop album, and it is evident Taylor studied Lana and her music and style in doing her own album, but of course, Taylor lost all sense of who Taylor is on this album, just to sell her soul and be number one one one one one 24/7/365. In fact, one of her videos was made to coincide directly over Lana's Summertime sadness, and one of her new songs is a direct copy of everything Lana. Shame Florence thought she needed to change. Whyin the world would Lana want to be Florence? I think Lana forecasted who she is and what HM will be in the last video she released for UV, and in the 3 songs directly on UV that were basically responses to the press and the other artists who are copying her. ("Mimicing me's a fucking bore...to me" from IFMWUTTT) and with the fact that Lana released the pictures recently showing wrinkles (nothing is done without a reason) and the selfie where she crinkles her chin clearly showing some wrinkles- Focus on Old Money and Lana looking out surveying the land from her window- Lana is clearly saying she is not looking to be the teeny bopper bubblegum singer that gets airplay 24/7/365 and attempting to compete with Iggy or Meghan Trainor (in 3 years both of whom will be Who???) but in fact is something past that phase. We shall see, but I expect Honeymoon to be darker than UV. (And are some people forgetting here- Summertime sadness was a song directly about the suicide of a friend. Maybe some only know the unauthorized by Lana Cedric remix which changed the focus of the song??? I don't get it. There is some disconnect here. -

After the video she last made, why would anyone think Honeymoon is going to be happy? It is a continuous saga. And the last video was anything but. BTW- I think alt-indie is the wrong terminology anyhow I think what Lana really is is Progressive. Prog-Rock in the broad sense of the term as it was in the late 1960s early 1970s. From Eno (who was in the Lou Reed pairing) to ELP to Elton and Genesis (before Genesis became Phil Collins AC) alt is really a hybrid term anyhow. Alt really means anyone who doesn't sell a huge amount, but the same person once they do, is sort of shunned from being alt so its a catch-22. . What it all really is is Hip. Not Hip hop, Just Hip. Or in other words, Lana is in 1969 terms groovy as we used to say What it really is is that Lana is doing what only guys did back then, so there is no comparison with others. She literally is the ultimate feminist in that she breaks all the barriers and is a true equal to all males that came before in music, not a follower. A trail blazer. and I am saying that without hyperbole. And I expect Honeymoon to dive deeper into the film noir world where no good ever comes even if redemption does. The top 40 people some want her to be (ewwwww) would have been bubblegum in the early 1970s. Does anyone here really want Lana to be bubblegum throwaway? -

The one thing I would love to see is a full orchestra and strings. Half the songs she has has strings, but it takes a really big stage to make it sound right. (Perhaps a one off at the Metropolitan Opera House or Radio City Music Hall.) In the overseas tour, she had strings on some early dates. The problem is, on record, Lana overdubs her own vocals, and then the haters say why can't she do that onstage. Brian Wilson and John Lennon quit concerts and part of the reason was they could not recreate it on stage (in the Beatles case, the audience, much like Lana's) was so loud singing along and screaming that they couldn't even hear themselves sing. And John Lennon famously threw up every time he had to go onstage. (Carly Simon too) Best concert I ever saw in my life was Elvis Costello's first show at the Bottom Line club in NYC...he played for an hour and it was one song after another, all short songs. Saw him many times after, including a 4 hour show...that show, I couldn't wait to get out of there. My ass hurt and my legs hurt from standing and sitting. Harry Chapin gave long concerts. Some went 3 hours. And after the first 90 minutes, Harry was hoarse. I think Harry taught Bruce about long shows. I think if Lana did 4 hour shows, some here would complain that it wasn't 6 hours or 8 hours. It's not the length, it's what you do with it when you do it. Always leave them wanting more is the old Hollywood cliche'. Never have them want to leave before you are done. BTW- if she played twice the length, what would happen is there would be 15 minute guitar solos in every other song. You wouldn't be getting more vocals. But a full classical orchestra, a choir, strings and Lana. Elton John did that on a few tours. I was lucky enough to see two shows in a few weeks- one in Wembley England, one at Radio City with full orchestra and choir. The one in England had a white choir. The one in NYC had a black choir. Two best show of his I ever saw (and I have seen him about 40 times since 1973.) He was able to recreate his first 3 albums that in the past he never could do it right. That is what it would take. But paying for about 100 extra people on stage, and the logistics, make it hard to do a full tour like that, even if they use a local orchestra and choirs. And that would take a really large stage. And that would probably mean the tickets would start at $250 a piece and go up from there (before scalpers). -
Ride. And I love the video and the monologue and ending spoken part (so much so that I wish Lana would do a book of poetry/lyrics and then release an audio of it I love the bridge, that is unbelievably me. The monologue is the best statement Lana ever made about herself. And at the time, it led into the best 1-2 of all time. That being Ride and then American. And I believe people mistake some of the symbolism in the words, because I believe she is talking about not the motorcyclists per se, but her concert audience, her video audience, her music audience. That connection. And I love how Ride references Video Games (with one pretty song) and also how Ride let's you know she thinks of herself as a Jazz singer (and note, people mistake it sometimes for saying Jazz musician. Her instrument is her voice and her lyrics and her life is a jazz singer and not a Top 40 singer. Ride is produced by Rick Rubin...would love a full album by Rick (who did Johnny Cash so well along with the rap and punk groups he is more associated with.) Ride could be a big song by one of the remaining legends of country, it's too bad Johnny is not here, it would be perfect for him, but Merle Haggard could do it and just change Pretty song to Gritty Song, especially if say Rick Rubin would produce it too. (someone suggest it to them) After his death, the Doors created an album based on Jim Morrison's poems that had been recorded. One day, Lana should. Or release limited editions or something. (BTW-many artists now do release books which enables another outlet for fans and picking up new fans and also another item to sell at concerts.) Video Games should have come either before or after Born to die on the album. Cruel World does set the mood. But I will stick with Ride. And then wham right into American. It's really hard to separate anyhow. Each album is like the chapter of the great classics written. One can't wait to read the next one, or a great tv show like say Twin Peaks or House of Cards or Breaking Bad was...waiting for what in the world is going to come next. (and with Lana the final chapter is a long way off, unwritten, being lived)

Truth hurts? You are wrong. And negative. Stop comparing her to people who are just today's versions of someone else. Today's whoever, yesterday's Miley who was yesterdays Britney who was yesterday's Celine who was yesterdays Mariah who was yesterday's Whitney who was yesterday's 100 others none of whom are Madonna who is still standing strong. Aretha was and is better than all those names and is, as long as she remains healthy and alive, still with us still sounding almost as great as she used to. Best example is Edith Piaf. Been what, nearly 100 years and her name lives on. Sorry, but I don't want Lana to be Meghan Trainor or Katy Perry. And Lana has an ace in the hole Katy or Beyone or Rihanna don't have- if Lana wanted to do the most commercial radio friendly album out there, she could put it out as by Elizabeth Grant, songwriter. And have a whole new career. Or do something people (but not the haters) probably wish had happened already, 2 old friends Duet album together- Lana and Gaga. (though I may be the only one who doesn't hate one or the other). Something like Paul McCartney did with Michael Jackson. Lana is albums not commercial singles. But if she wanted to do an album of "Queen of Disaster" "Pale Moonlight" and 20 other highly commercial songs, I would be first in line for that too. Satisfaction should be knowing that her style is hers, and she can do any style. Others need autotune and someone controlling their every move. (While it's a great catchy anthem song, Rachel Platten's Fight song sounds like 250 other people and the high notes are embarrassing. As she has been around a decade, more power to her now, but it is 100% generic, even if it gets to #1. This is my opinion, feel free to disagree, I am not looking to change anyones mind. -

leaked_version- No, I disagree We have 100s of records done prior to when Video Games and Born to Die became big hits So the talent came before What is it you are looking for? Take Elton John. The biggest star of 1970-1976 People wrote him off after 1977 at their mistake Continues to sell out show after show every single year, and his 80s song "I'm still standing" It's now been 47 years since his first recordings (2 or 3 years prior to his first hit) Better to have a long long career then being the flame of the day that burns out. Look what happened to Elvis, Michael Jackson, Whitney Houston, Kurt Cobain Would rather have say Lana like Leonard Cohen, still going strong in his 80s, Lou Reed who continued til his lifestyle caught up with him Meanwhile, Lana has had 4 movie songs recently, is on a tour where anyone in the USA could see as many dates as they could afford to get to, videos coming out, a new album coming out, maybe some print interviews, more critical reviews of said album Seemingly she has a new news item every day one when searches and the best of all for her, she has a private life on any day she chooses to avoid the cameras. And can in an instance, should she choose, choose to sing with anyone in the musical world worldwide, at which point a duet could be released at which point, that artist could keep her in the news (much like the name dropping Brian Wilson did for months) Though the song wasn't on his lp, the name dropping means if one does a search for Lana/Brian countless entries show up (Why do you think Marilyn Manson kept name dropping her? At just the time he wanted publicity). If one really wanted Lana to win an Oscar, hopefully she will do something where she creates something writes something, produces something that like Matt Damon and Ben Affleck, forever get to call themselves Oscar winners (for screenwriting credits). Matters little what Oscar people win. An Oscar Winner=An Oscar winner Same with forever she can say she is a Grammy nominee. Same as forever she is one of just a limited amount of people to have a #1 CD and a #2 CD and Paradise was Top 10. and counts same as a full lp in the official chart records.(with a 4th one coming shortly) and the Lana Del Ray EP actually was Top 20 on the Top 200 Album charts and charted for 3 weeks. So Honeymoon officially will be the 5th. And at some point a greatest hits and live albums and unreleased tracks and Chrismas and so on and so forth And one knows, were she to go on a SNL again or something like it, one can guarantee the press would start up again and again And just for fun- Lana has outlasted Brian the Liar and the one that obnoxiously sent that nasty tweet on her Williams. How cool is that! Couldn't happen to a bigger asshole than Brian Williams of NBC news is. -
One cannot just pick a date out of thin air. One has to coordinate it with the staging the road crew the dates available, who else is playing that day in the area so there is no conflicts, millions of things and where it fits into the availability of everyone being able to arrive in Texas from a different place. It would not make sense, for instance, when Lana is Canada, to have it in the day in between the 2 dates would it? Not to mention, one has to hire the people who work for the place itself (concession people, merchandise, security, insurance contracts, parking attendants and the thousand of other little things a fan might not be aware of Not as simple as snapping ones fingers (especially these days where it is possible tour equiptment is shared between 2 entities.

Worst and Best song from Ultraviolence
graham4anything replied to NickDelRey's topic in Lana Thoughts
Shades of Cool, Brooklyn Baby, West Coast, Old Money, Pretty when I cry, the Other woman, Sad Girl Ultraviolence, Money Power, I 'd my way to, Cruel World and the extras are all good, especially Is this happiness.(which is not on any album itself is it?) there are no bad songs. This is the greatest album in full since Elton's Captain Fantastic, Goodbye yellowbrick road . and Sgt. Pepper's before it Ultraviolence was meant to be listen whole start to finish and back again and again and again. It's a concept album. Other albums have 2 or 3 cuts, but one never listens to the rest. (Springsteen comes to mind, on each of his albums there is stuff I don't care if I ever hear again) There is not one song I would not want to hear (and I thought nothing would beat Paradise after I thought nothing would beat Born to Die)... and the thing about both Paradise and Ultraviolence is- the best place to hear it is speeding down the road at night on the highway, with it really loud. But to pick one- Shades of Cool -

Ultraviolence is going to be remembered as one of the ten greatest albums of the 10's. And it was #1, went Gold and she didn't sell her soul to do it. And without promo, she was on just about every critics Top 10 of the year list. She won over Dan who really put her down. She won over most of the people who bad mouthed her. And like Sinatra sang She did it HER way. The entire music industry knows her and is intrigued by her, and eventually people are going to get #1s singing her songs, even if she doesn't get the airplay herself (and is it even needed? For what??? The awards will come, possibly as songwriter first, possible in a small movie short or possibly even in spoken word album. Possibly on soundtracks. Ultraviolence should have won Album of the year and Record of the year. But who really cares about awards anyhow? Most don't remember 10 minutes later who won an award last year. (Quick-who won best supporting actress or best record at the AMA's? One thing I would love to see her do is sing a one-off with a full orchestra, perhaps film it for a Fathom event, or just to release a live DVD of it (and then it could go to PBS type stations. Like I said in a different thread, if Lana did what others wanted her to do, but not what she wanted to do, she would not be Lana. She would be everyone else. Wonder though if perhaps she will be an opening week guest of Steve Colbert. I doubt she will ever do anything with NBC again morning or night, but Colbert is on CBS starting in September. But do you really see Lana putting up with the crap of appearing on Kelly and Michael's show? Or getting asked demeaning questions of the same old same old? I wouldn't want to have to respond to that crap. The music speaks for itself. All those that are copying her prove it (including Taylor Swift and Lorde and Sam Smith and how Miley seems to be in awe of her too.) Everyone wants a piece of her, and she stands alone in not doing what others insist, but in what she wants (like the biggest music stars ever always did- like Dylan, like the Dead, like Leonard Cohen. Now if one really wants radio play, a Christmas duet with Leonard Cohen and every year from Halloween to New Years, Lana would be heard with that Christmas song coast to coast on American radio (as so many stations now go 24/7 Christmas for all of December, and part of November (and some start right after Halloween, where they could start off with Once upon a dream. btw- Dylan was on Letterman second to last night as a favor to Dave, but, it was his first late night appearance in what ,20 years. -
Seeming Lana herself never lied and it was just the lazy pressed that couldn't be bothered to stop repeating something, figures though Lana gets blamed. BTW, how old is Bob Dylan? How old was he in 1973? 1999? Does anyone ever care what a male's age is? It's all just superficial and petty for the media to care as it is sexist. But then all the media is sexist, especially the music media. And interviews done in say May but not released until October would obviously have the different age just in that.

The Keys always thought highly of themselves prior and very vocally had put Lana down Until sheepishly they were outwitted by Lana who let her talent prove she was not what they were putting down, and won them over Of course, they are male, so the Rolling Stone/ Rock critic mentality immediately took to them as alt-rock heroes, sexist as they (and the Keys) were/are Their latest album could have been done by Lana, as it is quite different in many ways from their earlier albums. I know whom I will be seeing. theoretically if they play a longer set and both actual start at the same time, one could maybe see the very end of the other, but it is one helleva long walk especially if one is upfront at Lana's show. (Not sure of the layout, but I got VIP ticket only going Sunday, a smiliar thing is on a different day with Florence in conflict with someone else).
