Auto-Tuned Loon Posted September 20, 2012 Posted September 20, 2012 It's the voodoo, mississippi south 69 million stars Birds are flying out of my mouth This is how I came into being. Like Athena from the mind of Zeus, I sprang fully formed from the mouth of Lana. You knew there had to be some voodoo shit involved, didn't you? 5 Quote A bad sample, repeated often with unwarranted glee.
Monicker Posted September 20, 2012 Posted September 20, 2012 This is how I came into being. Like Athena from the mind of Zeus, I sprang fully formed from the mouth of Lana. You knew there had to be some voodoo shit involved, didn't you? I was actually just wondering about this yesterday--if Emile Haynie already had your sounds prior to the recording of BTD or if he made them specifically for the record. I wonder if he even made them or if it's some stock shit that he manipulated. And did he show Lana and she liked it, or did he just add it to a song on his own and showed her later? Also, i wonder who is responsible for the repetitive use of it--did she hear it on one song and insist that he use it more because she liked it so much, or was it completely his own doing to slather the entire record with it? Is anyone familiar with his productions for other people? That might provide answers. 3 Quote "The limits of my language mean the limits of my world." -Wittgenstein

Jazzmin Posted December 29, 2013 Posted December 29, 2013 It was quite a short time ago that I realized there was a nice play on words in the song (that "Ray" refers to Lizzy's stage name) xD . Then I loved the song even more. Lana is a genius to have created something like this. 1 Quote And the wind I know it’s cold

silver starlet Posted December 30, 2013 Posted December 30, 2013 I always thought it was "there's a route to Mississippi south" instead of "its the voodoo Mississippi south" guess not? 0 Quote
FIREANDWATER Posted December 30, 2013 Posted December 30, 2013 I always thought it was "there's a route to Mississippi south" instead of "its the voodoo Mississippi south" guess not? i always thought it was voodoo but there's a route makes so much more sense!! i'm playing right now to hear it again. i'm gonna press enter twice and then tell you what i think. .i heard "this a route to" maybe "this the route to" or maybe "this the route two" nope now i hear "mister voodoo" damn it now i hear "it's the voodoo" what does 69 million stars mean? 1 Quote let's change our DNA

silver starlet Posted December 30, 2013 Posted December 30, 2013 i mean it could be anything, most of the lyrics in this song don't make much sense anyway 1 Quote
keanefar Posted December 30, 2013 Posted December 30, 2013 Not that it's a big difference but isn't it "I don't have to talk taste for YOUR mama"? 5 Quote
motelflowernation Posted December 31, 2013 Posted December 31, 2013 Due to my crazed obsession with this song (okay, it's really all LDR's songs but the southern-y ones in particular always get to me) I decided to go through and make corrections to these lyrics that I felt were more accurate. Please, please, please if they need altering in anyway do not hesitate to do so. I do trust my ears and the millions of times I've scream-sang these words in my car. Hope they help. Intro: [Ray] Ray-ray-ray-raise me up talk-talk-talk... Ray-raise. It's like you said, it's all been done before I don't have to talk pretty for them no more [x2] I can talk what I want, how I wanna [x3] I don't have to talk taste for your momma. No, no, no. Say no. Sitar Posted January 1, 2014 Posted January 1, 2014 Not that it's a big difference but isn't it "I don't have to talk taste for YOUR mama"? I think it is a big different Idk whether or not it's a kiss off to her mom or someone else's mom... 1 Quote
keanefar Posted January 1, 2014 Posted January 1, 2014 I think it is a big different Idk whether or not it's a kiss off to her mom or someone else's mom... IMO the whole song is kinda sung towards or about someone else so that's why I think it's 'your'. Plus I just hear it 1 Quote

Kommando Posted November 21, 2015 Posted November 21, 2015 Is the "Rai-rai, rai-raise me up" part actually "Ray Ray, Ray raise me up" 'cause you know, Ray's a guy in Kill Kill and such. I feel dumb for asking this but I've been wondering for at least 3 years so 3 Quote
fork2 Posted November 27, 2015 Posted November 27, 2015 I always thought that. Wonder who this ray fellow is. 0 Quote
