Is it just me or when Melanie randomly swears/says words like ass, shit, fuck etc it sounds weird and out of place? Like she has such a dreamy, childlike aesthetic and then she drops these words which sound cringy as HELL and totally unwarranted

You realize that L+F was actually all co written? Also it’s incredibly disingenuous to imply that L+F was bad because she didn’t have help, because we KNOW that Marina on her own can make amazing songs, TFJ, FROOT, all her early demos... like those are amazing

I mean don’t get me wrong I get what you’re saying and it is true that it’s kind of all over the place but the songs are so iconic and have such a distinctive sound each one of them Ita like every song has its own personality which is different from the others and tells a unique story but at the same time it all goes back to a central theme

well most people here have never had a bf but still relate/listen to songs about love so... but even if that's the case, i don't see how EH is more relatable... like you can't relate to a fight with your dad/parents or with people not understanding your goals but you can relate to being a home wrecker? to being addicted to sleeping pills and xanax? like... also i don't really think "i don't relate to it" is a valid reason not like something... we're on a lana forum and i doubt everybody relates to having an addiction at 16, skipping boarding school to drink and do drugs, riding a motorbike with a 50 yo man etc.......

TFJ is much less polished and has a lower budget production compared to EH and FROOT (admittedly, FROOT and EH have much better production value) but in what way is it messy? just because it's not polished it doesn't mean its messy... The lyrics are AMAZING, the metaphors, word play and imagery is 10/10 The melodies are incredible, Numb and Obsessions are incredible ballads, Oh No! and Mowglis' Road stunning upbeat songs... like? The recurrent themes are very Marina in every way, it's witty, sarcastic, humorous and playful It's an incredible debut album comparable to BTD, etc...

PTP is really nowhere near her best or even good songs try listening to her first 3 albums to get an idea of her old style

The Britney line is bad AND unnecessary I don’t think she did it on purpose, she was just trying to comment on social trends in her own (bad) way, but it came out really weird and it’s terribly written either way A good comparison is the “He hit me and it felt like a kiss” line tbh This one is problematic too for obvious reasons but unlike the Britney one it’s very poetic and elicits a very vivid and somewhat poetic image Like if the Britney line was good it could make up for the fact that it’s clumsy and in bad taste but it has no redeeming value whatsoever

I don’t think it’s true tho, nobody was mad at L+F because the concept didn’t hold up initially, the main point is that the songs are bad. Yeah, the concept doesn’t hold up, but most album don’t have concept and it’s fine What we didn’t like was the album in itself, and the fact that it was tied together with such a silly explanation and concept just made matters worse like, even if TFJ, FROOT and EH don’t have strong concepts they are thematically, sonically, lyrically and visually incredibly *SOLID* works and the “concept” is just a nice package to wrap it all up. l+f simply was a bad project with an even poorer “concept” to wrap it all up even if it took her the same amount of time to come up with it, we are not judging intention, we are judging the outcome/result, and they are incredibly different

I know I'm bumping this really really OLD comment and sorry for that I was reading the old messages when some old tracks leaked cause i was looking for the OG dl links and i thought it was really interesting what you said about the family jewels being flimsy cause it's actually the opposite, at least IMHO in romance languages, "family jewels" are a figurative way to refer to male genitalia and this is why i think it's such a clever title... like, TFJ literally means balls but if you're an english listener you don't know that cause it's not as spread as in other languages and as for the literal meaning, there's a running theme of royalty in TFJ, as referenced by the background of the album, the EP crown jewels etc (i do think this royal aspect is played up for laughs basically, cause she was kinda poor) which ties in with her own direct family and how the album is basically about her relationship with her father, with success and with growing up i don't think that TFJ, both as a concept, title or album, is flimsy. even if she did come up with the overall concept late in the game, it's still quite clever

Anyway the tracklist and the name sound very pretentious but at the same time interesting we’ll see what she has in mind I’m kinda intrigued

No during Electra Heart she recorded 27 (tbh more cause who knows what is left to leak) amazing tracks but I doubt she’ll ever go back to that... like are you seriously comparing Radioactive and Primadonna to Man’s World and Purge the Poison EDIT: I don’t mean to be negative I’m just trying to be realistic if just half of the next album is decent it will be miles better than LF and an upgrade from that, let’s not get our hopes up
