girl im gay too i just find it weird when people say an album has "aged" well and its like has been out for year... like the opposite is bad... there's nothing remarkable about an album sounding fresh after 15 months its the BARE MINIMUM

I don’t wanna sound mean but Charli kinda peaked with N1A and Pop 2 the quality of the tracks on it, the features, the melodies, the production, it’s unmatched those 2 are her masterpieces charli has good songs but it does not have the same quality overall

Yeah sorry I should’ve been more specific, I meant compared to Florence Yes Marina was marketed outside of the UK but compared to Florence it was very little And there’s a few reason for it: Lungs was way more on par with the musical trends of 2008/9/10 than TFJ, and Florence was easier to sell IMO

Marina was never marketed outside of the UK the same way Lana and Florence were. Take Italy: both Lana and Florence had immensely successful singles here (Summertime Sadness and You've Got The Love) which basically landed them a name in Italy, and so did for many other countries Marina never even entered the radio And this was at a time in which yeah people had internet but not to same degree we do now, so it was way harder to find new artists, especially if you didn't have an online presence of some sort Plus british female singers have it way harder to break it in the international market compared to male singers, IDK why that is but it's kind of a thing EDIT: I mean radio wise. They almost always have one big single and disappear (Charli, Lili, Florence, Leona Lewis, Dido, Jess Glynne, Duffy, etc)

Charli should invest way more in her songs being palatable for TikTok (a lot of her unreleased would be TBH) cause TikTok managed to get play date from obscure deluxe edition to most played on Spotify but she’s not smart like that business wise EDIT: and it got Lana’s Queen of Disaster trending on iTunes despite it not even being released

what point exactly? Cause WDBCF is NOT better than Nurses Office, it’s a really boring track and it totally did not deserve the 5 year hype that the fandom gave it

WDBCF is not as good as y’all make it out to be, 3/4 of CB is better and nurses office is a BOP! Yes the noise is horrible and makes it worse but it’s a good song, admittedly one of the best on the album

I listened to it on repeat the other day !! For like 10 times... I think the song itself is good but the production is too generic (tho not as generic as LF, but still) and it could really use something more alternative... I truly think her production peaked with FROOT cause it suits her voice perfectly and I kinda like that synth pop/borderline dream pop vibe but yeah I did like it overall it’s a good song (and it’s also pretentious with the lyrics which is definitely Marina)

Electra Heart has GREAT aesthetics and visuals, both in video form and pictures, but has no actual story like we actually known nothing about EH besides from the fact that she died which is something that Marina said AFTER the whole thing was done all the videos are inconclusive and stand-alone and have no connection to each other it’s a shame cause she could’ve done an actual story like Cry Baby or Kid A but at the same time I don’t care Kinda random but did we ever get the song that Marina captioned as “emotional machine” in a post but had a completely different melody and it was with a weird instrument? It was like way at the beginning of the era nothing had been announced yet

as much as I hate lf and think Marina has dropped the ball on being an artist, I haven’t noticed either TBH like we’re in a pandemic and it will be a whole year before we can actually go back to normal so what’s the point of having a tight release schedule... who cares? we’re in no rush at all for new music It would be nice tho if she released INHA as a stand alone thingy to fill the void while we’re waiting for M5 especially since RSD is around the corner

No I’m sorry every time Fiona comes out with a new record it’s FLAWLESS you can’t compare her putting actual work into an album and carefully perfecting it for 7-8 years to Marina... we all know Marina is not taking this much time inbetween releases because she’s so invested in the project but cause she doesn’t care about it like I love Marina’s first 3 album to DEATH but Fiona is timeless and an iconic artist

say what you want about Azealia but Anna Wintour is a great track and so is Treasure Island (the single after that) The video is what it is but the song itself is perfect

If we’re talking objectively Shades of cool does not have incredible lyrics (not compared to VB at least tbh), they are good but what makes SoC a great song is it’s melody and harmony... the chromatic movement of the riff alone is iconic and one among her best as for toxic Yes that’s why toxic is the greatest pop song of the 00s but what’s the point of comparing it to Lana?

she would’ve never done it cause it makes no sense... they are almost 10 years apart (2021, 2014? Maybe even 2013) she should have released INHA and as a B side Saviour or True Colors or another demo (even though WYTAC is Forget, the demo has to be at least a little different) for the record store day

I think we are giving Hope way too much credit, it totally doesn’t showcase Lana’s full songwriting abilities it’s VERY simple melodically and harmonically (the chorus’s structure is IV - V - vi - IV) and she has shown all throughout her career to have better melodies I do believe Venice Bitch should take the crown for best song 1. Thematically, it encompasses Lana’s core theme of nostalgia, and is somewhat beach-adjacent which has always been part of her imagery (both when she lived in the east coast and in the west cost) 2. Harmonically it’s very interesting in that it’s written in F Lydian which is why it sounds so, at least to me, “nostalgic”, but it also borrows from F major during the chorus (and this switch makes for some unique melodies tbh) 3. Melodically we see at least 3 different main melodies/themes throughout the track and they all get explored, slightly changed and echoed with various instruments (I LOVE the synth at one point), which is what usually happens with symphonies (so like a theme/tune will be repeated with slight changes every time both in instruments and melody/harmony). There’s a incredibly powerful climax that basically fades into her at the end it’s amazingly done. 4. The RANGE it has !!... the electric guitar SOLO?? Layered with her humming ? And the synths going up and down... it’s AMAZING breathtaking every time now I don’t wanna say hope is bad cause I do believe it has a very beautiful melody, but Venice Bitch at least IMO in all aspects it’s a masterclass in songwriting, storytelling, composing melodies and production. It could be a straight up symphony that you would hear during a classical concert. And plus it’s so intimately Lana that idk... there’s just something amazing about it I really believe it’s her opus and truly best song (if there even is a “best” song) plsu can I just say I never realise no once that I’m listening to a 10 minute song when I listen to it cause it just... it’s so good. I lose myself in it. And I think it’s part of its beauty: the dreamy breakdown makes you lose yourself in it and gently wakes you up at the end like a mother waking up her son from a dream. It’s all so beautiful, and calming, and peaceful that it’s somehow cathartic
