Norman Fucking Rockwell - Pre-Release Thread

Yeah and if people were trying to turn this thread into a Bible study group I would be annoyed at that too. I think I knew in the back of my mind that Hallelujah was a Leonard Cohen song but I had a lapse of memory. Lana covering Chelsea Hotel #2 is so beautiful, my absolute favorite cover Lana has done. -

Topics that need to be banned: 1. Marina. So boring, she is no Lana. 2. Astrology. Go pray to your crystals or waste your money on some quack psychic. No rational person wants to hear about how animal star constelations determin our personalities. You are literally mentally stunted if you believe that. Yeah of course I know Rufus Wainright. Pretty sure everyone knows that Hallelujah song, even if they couldn’t name who sings it. What do you guys think about this week’s album releases? Am I crazy to think that Lil Pump brought a stronger album than Gunna, Offset and Kehlani? I am excited to hear Gesaffelatein on March 8 and Lizzo on Apr 19 -

Sorry I escalated things, I just stan Azealia so hard if I hear someone trash talking her music I take it way to personally. As for her personality, that is fair game because she is certified crazy. -

You’re standard for talent seems to be, anyone who releases generic pop songs over rejected 2009 Dr Luke, Katy Perry or BTD era Lana sounding beats qualifies as talented, actual talent is an afterthought. How can you criticize someone’s vocals when the artist (Troye) you stan can’t release a song without being autotuned to the point of barely sounding human. Anyone who actually thinks that Troye Syvan is talented while Azealia is not is legally deaf. (Not saying I don’t love BTD, it’s just the one Lana album that leans towards overproduced in my oppinion) -

Ya’ll are seriously judging her off a aong that she posted for free on youtube with no promotion where she is onviously singing in weird voice intentionally, while giving Troye a pass for being tone deaf on his lead singles! When Troye sings “Take a trip into my garden” roses wither. Show me a studio single, album track or even mixtape cut where Azealia’s vocals aren’t perfect, not just some youtube joke song. -

Azealia recorded that Sleigh Bells song just to be a drunk weirdo and then released it basically as a joke. And still I would rather listen to those vocals than Marina or Troye who can’t even carry a note even heave heavy pitch correction. Azealia’s vocal performance on Anna Wintour is undeniable -

She’s basically been blackballed from the industry due to her behavioral issues, so she needs to get her coins somehow! Doesn’t mean she can’t out sing, out rap, out perform and make better production choices than any other pop star. Marina’s voice sounds like a moose. Marina could never make something as iconic as Grime’s Genesis, or Azealia’s 212 -

Of all the other pop stars that seems overlap with Lana’s fanbase. Troye Sivan really can’t sing, autotuned basic garbage. Marina’s voice is not really pleasant, decent songwriter, her production taste is a little garish and obnoxious, all her songs are like the worst of the overproduced songs from the BTD era. Azealia Banks leaves everyone’s wigs snatched always, most underappreciated star since her drama overshadows her music. Lorde’s best songs are all on her first album (unpopular oppinion), but both albums are strong. Sophie is the best pop star other than Lana. Sky Ferrera is very good but disapeared off the earth for six years while promising her album every year, makes Lana’s hiatus seem like five minutes. Charli XCX I love but don’t like the 1999 song with Troye, sometimes Charli is too basic, she needs to work with Sophie more. Grimes I adore. Cupcakke I adore. Kim Petras is cute and catchy but needs a lot of autotuning, I like her song with Sophie. Ariana is boring but is hot and has a very strong voice. Florence are classic but I don’t really listen much. -

VB is some of Lana’s strongest lyricism of any era period. Lyrics are simple but really capture a powerful sense of yearning in the same way Video Games did, VB is just completely intoxicating. MAC lyrics, production, and melody really don’t resonate with me. It is the only track from this era that I never listen to. I like Hope generally, but I agree that sometimes I am not sure if the lyrics are beautiful or cringey. I prefer HTD piano version she performed at the Apple event over hope. -

Lana’s poem is like... above average at best for a kid in a college or high school English class. Her words sound vapid without melody and song structure to give them emotion. If writing this poetry helped her collect her thoughts and focus her lyricism, then I think it’s great that she’s doing this poetry as it is instrumental in the creation of NFR. As a stand alone piece of art, the poem is very forgetiable. -

I would live for Lana having a scene in Once Upon a Time in Hollywood playing some hippie at Manson’s compound performing an original song that she wrote, while Brad and Leo sit solemly and listen and Lena Dunham dances around naked while tripping on acid -

I love going back to her old songs and hearing old lyrics that she repurposed for her new songs “Got me in the back of your car like a star” -

I love Honeymoon, but something about the vocals bothers me. I don’t know if its the way her vocals were recorded or mastered, but there is too nuch reverb on them or something. The way Jack records Lana, she sounds crystal clear. I wish Jack would re-record and remaster Honeymoon. -

Lana is an artist and songwriter, she will still be releasing beautiful music and being active in the music industry when she’s 60+ years old. Britney was just given good songs because she was hot when she was young. Popstars like Rihanna take creative control of their careers make good artistic decisions, and manage to become respected as artists and cultural icons. Once someone like Britney or Katy Perry is past their prime, they have nothing left to give to the culture and the industry directs their attention and resources towards someone new and younger. -
