  1. It was weird seeing her walk out on stage. Like Lana was only either been someone in my head/ears or someone on screen and finally seeing her in person was really surreal (and kind of disorientating)  :icant: . The dress and long ponytail was much better in person and Lana was taller than I expected.

The show itself was kind of perfect. I still don’t know what the dancers added but I guess they’re there and they’re fine. She didn’t perform any songs from Honeymoon, not even MTWBT even though there was this one guy who kept shouting Honeymoon  :crying5:  when she asked which song she should perform. We love that man of taste :defeated: .

edit: while in line a bunch of people started screaming, and everyone thought Lana must've shown up, and got their phones out to film-- and it turned out people were screaming cause like half a dozen people started throwing up lmfao. I guess thats what happens when security make you clump up together in line in 35 degree heat lol! water was $5 a bottle too. hope everyone still had a blasttt

That was kind of hilarious. Seriously though, the doors opened one hour later than stated so I don’t why security thought it was necessary to make us all stand up and squeeze together. I’m not surprised people fainted and vomited. It was hell waiting in the heat and I think the way the handled it surely was not OH&S compliant even though the security guy kept talking about how his job was to keep us ‘safe’ (and kept repeating how any one with a seated ticket does not belong in the line)  :eartha2: .

The crowd is general wasn’t as bad as expected (they were quite chilled for a Lana event) particularly compared to what I’ve heard online. I’m def stuck in my bubble but I was struck at how mainstream and GP-friendly Lana has become. It should be obvious but it’s only in scenarios like this you realise it’s not 2011 anymore  :um2: . Also I was surprised how young the crowd was. There were some 20 year olds but it was mostly packed with teenagers. I guess all the older ones were in the seats  :toofunny:  :toofunny:  :toofunny:.

Here’s the part of Lana talking about Cat Power (Borns was cute but Grimes, Courtney or Chan probably would’ve kept my interest :hooker: ): https://twitter.com/bereavedbyyou/status/980820784728780801

  2. Was listening to the second half of Honeymoon and it just reminded of Elio's arc throughout the whole movie. Ever one of those songs - Burnt Norton, Religion, Salvatore, The Blackest Day, 24, Swan Song and DLMBMU - actually felt like it could be written from Elio's perspective.

So I've come to the same conclusion that Lana and Elio are the same character. I don't think it's a coincidence they both love ruining peaches  :creepna2:  :creepna2:  :creepna2: .

The movie deserves all the hype. Elio's scene with his father at the end honestly broke me. The worst part is waiting for the book to be delivered. :defeated:

  3. The second half of LFL is superior to the first half. It's more interesting lyrically and sonically. I'm glad Lana went political b/c while songs like White Mustang are cute, it's a bit dull relative to her overall discography.

I wished the production on some of the songs were more 'acoustic' or 'folky'. A lot of it was unnecessarily messy and some of the drum machines just sound downright generic/bad (but maybe b/c it's in 128kbps).

Based on initial impressions, I still like UV & HM better tho  :derpna: .

  4. As much as I love UV, it has Sad Girl, The Other Woman and sometimes I'm not in the mood to go through PWYC, Guns and Roses (her worst album track ever) and Cruel Word sometimes just drags along for those 7 minutes. It's my fav album of hers though.

I really don't think we should consider G&R a UV album track since Lana explicitly stated UV starts at Cruel World and ends at TOW.

The only reasons we have those tracks is because Lana implied the label forced her to release deluxe versions (though she eventually won with HM & LFL).

  5. Not as excited for the first half (except for Love) since the melodies, subject matter and lyrics are what we've all heard before from her past work.

However the second half of the album...  :defeated:  :defeated:  :defeated: I'm still sad the Shangri-La girl group influences went away. The opening 30 seconds of Lust for Life was the only good thing about that song :toofunny:  :toofunny: .

Still holding out hope though that LDR6 finally brings back the live drums & narco swing backdropping Lana's newfound witchy lust for a full-automated luxury gay space communism that abolishes all forms of capitalist paid work & an equal distribution of leisure time and socially necessary unpaid labour responsibilities across all genders, class and race  :thankyou:  .

  6. Finally listened to Summer Bummer & Groupie Love :crossed: .

I'm okay with Summer Bummer but I do like Groupie Love. However like the title track LFL these songs have little replay value. The shelf lives of these songs are going to age like a carton of milk. :derpna:

In 5 years time we'll all still be talking about BTD, West Coast, UV and some HM songs. None of us however will remember the LFL tracks fondly (or even at all).  :um3:

  7. I think the overwhelmingly critical reaction against CWIMM is not just about the song (as if any reaction is independent of its context) but a culmination of releasing one good but not spectacular single and then a mediocre title track with a short-shelf life (LFL honestly has one of the lowest play counts out of all my lana songs).

Coachella is just the straw that broke the camel's back - a sort of scapegoat for every one's LFL anxiety.

I'm just confused that if she wanted to release a timely, political single why didn't she just release God Bless America instead? Restore my faith back queen!  :icant:  :icant:

  8. I WANT EMILE. JUSTIN PARKER, JEFF BHASKER, CHRIS BRAIDE AND DAVID KAHNE BACKKKKKKKKK

Idk I feel like the reasons we're in this mess is bc some stans demanded the past (BTD sound) reoccur but the past is the past for a reason. Lana needs to work with a completely unexpected and spontaneous producer like what she did with Dan Auerbach.

LFL has so far been mediocre because it's market-researched and pandering (it's for the fans blah blah blah). That's the worst approach to create something artistically exciting.

  9. I can't decide between HM or first 7 tracks of UV, it depends on my mood honestly. However there's no doubt that HM was her most cohesive and I'm glad it was sort of low-key promotion wise.

I detested HBTB when it came out but I appreciate its place in the album now. Placing HBTB straight after GKIT helped a lot - from a noirish guitar-chord driven song about California and pitfalls of fame to something more muddy trap where Lana took charge (and shot down a paparazzi helicopter with a bazooka) bc she simply just wanted to get High By the Beach without anyone's nonsense was a genius transition between tracks conceptually. If HBTB wasn't on HM I would genuinely miss it and the record wouldn't feel complete.

More proof Lana truly is an album artist and a masterful auteur.

  10. Nice to see good taste winning so far in this poll. I would suck Dan Auerbach just for another WC honestly.

God we all know Lana needs something as surprising, well-written, original, genre-bending and beautifully produced as West Coast now in her career. The BPM slowing down in the chorus deserved multiple Grammys alone.

Though I must admit, Video Games will always be the most iconic.
