i refuse to believe it’s “with ribbon in knots” instead of “blue ribbons on ice” because that’s what i’ve been singing forever, and to me it makes more sense for the scene 😭 like you got music on and you’re watching boys while you have some  beer in a cooler beside you.

plus i just found out one of the lines is “hoes with lies akin to me” last year. i didn’t understand what she was saying in the first place but never thought she was singing hoes.

It must be “ribbons on ice” - as in “Pabst blue ribbon on ice” from BtD, interpolated into a more surrealist image as per the song’s image-laden lyrics

  2. ‘Brought by the sunlight

Of the spirit to pour into me -

There’s a name for it in Japanese:

    It’s kintsugi.

They sang folk songs from the forties,

    Even the fourteen year-old knew

    Froggy-Came-a-courtin’ -

    How do my blood relatives

    Know all of these songs?

    I don’t know anyone left

Who knows songs that I sing -

That’s how the light gets in.’

    Or alternatively

    ‘There we went,

    Screaming “Black Lives Matter”

In the crowd on that Old Man River,

And I saw you saw who I am -

God I wish I was with my father,

He could see us in all our splendour,

All the things I couldn’t want for him.’

Both of these were mic drops for me - these impossibly run-on sentences that simultaneously lilted melodically.

same here. been a fan for a decade now and i could never quite really understand what's so appealing about lizzy grant. sure, i like some songs from this era like brite lites, trash magic and disco (just realized i mentioned 2 outtakes instead of actual AKA tracks... oh well that should tell you enough how i feel about the album :deadbanana:) but idk i tried to see what's so special about this era in particular that a lot of people seem to love for years now but i'm ultimately failing at it. i don't get the appeal of this white trash trailer park hoe aesthetic either... i think you have to be born and raised north american to truly appreciate that and that's not my case, i just think it's trashy lol. i could never understand what makes lizzy so good, let alone BETTER than lana del rey. this is no shade to all the lizzy lipsters out there (truly, y'all are the sweetest on this website), but, quite frankly - and i talked about this in a very ~controversial~ status update before - i think what the fans really love about lizzy is the fact that she doesn't exist anymore. that this project will be forever unattainable, a glimpse of the past. so AKA will always be this little secret, a quirky easter egg in the big picture of lana del rey history; something palpable enough but something you could never have again. a similar feeling to grief, because lizzy is dead, artistically. but of course that's just my opinion

Yeah - like, I appreciate that she went through this period of creative experimentation and self-discovery, but listening to it feels like listening to her incubate, yet to hatch. This of course has its charm, and it’s inspiring as an artist myself to see “huh, yeah, some of my favourite artists really just be wandering around with no fanfare and yet to tap into their genius for ages”, but beyond that mythology… 🤷🏻‍♂️

  4. TS’s release rate is… bizarre.

Like it’s logistically impressive, I’d love to be in a position to create at this rate and scope. But… editing, no? Her work isn’t my thing, the odd tune. I can see albums being replaced with a steady release of songs/EP year-round, which I wouldn’t necessarily be against, in some ways it would be more manageable, if not flowful, for artists. Not that I don’t have a fondness for the album format.

I can see her creating a subscription based media service dedicated to her output - she produces at the rate and production quality to justify as much. Maybe that’s the future, and hey, if it puts more money in Artist’s pockets… not that she needs it.

He wrote on Patreon that he had to delete the channel. This is his short message:

“I know this is sudden, but I've got some pretty heavy personal stuff happening right now, and it's necessitating me putting an end to FWR.  I'm very sorry.
I appreciate you all being part of this journey with me, and I wish you nothing but the best.
    -Aaron”

I’m also shocked and pretty sad to hear this news because he was such a good person at analyzing music. Also, it was so nice just waking up to a new FWR video. He’ll definitely be missed - i hope he likes the new Lana record. 😢

🥺 poor thing, I really liked him, just seemed like a lovely guy.
