Video Games is commercial. The lyrics, the extremely clean and polished vocals (vocals that could be easily remixed), the high production value. The video on the other hand at the time was artsy fartsy which fooled the indie stans.

Reading the Dazed quotes I chuckled....... I remember just a few years ago she would always bring Born To Die sales..."it sold like 3 million copies" Now "I don care about sales" Only a flop would say that lol. It's true tho. She gave up which is sad to see.

I think it's fascinating. Lana rise to popularity is very unconventional and cool. Iamwhoiami or whatever did something the same but didnt really go anywhere.

Its a theory. It ain't shade or anything I love dalai. Rob is fucking 60 and he's not a normal 60 year old. He understands the internet VERY WELL. Chuck is another one but with photography. Lana has a very supportive (ing) family. It's a combination of image crafting and good advertising.

Lana Del Rey is a non existing sub underground level artist. Who gained presence purely on digital marketing handled by her domain investing father Rob Grant. Lana is the first and the only "successful" online artist. That Poppy tried the concept but failed.

Let's take a look at alt radio top 10. 1. IMAGINE DRAGONS 2. THE REVIVALISTS 3. TWENTY ONE PILOTS 4. RAG N BONE MAN 5. COLD WAR KIDS 6. ANDREW MCMAHON 7. BASTILLE 8. CAGE THE ELEPHANT 9. MISSIO 10. DREAMERS I mean accept that Lana isn't played on pop. But she can't even get played on the irrelevant radio format. Like she is even BELOW alternative. I mean look at the fucking list. I know about 3 artists on that list. It's full of irrelevants who can't even sell 5K of their albums. Yet they are getting exposure to TENS OF MILLIONS of people. Yeah that's right. Alt station is way smaller than pop but it's still in the tens of millions.

you can call any artist whatever you wish. But these are facts and official actual formats. Not your random iTunes tag or music library tag. What bothers me the most is the fact that people who listen to pop would consider her alt. (Which is fine) But those alt heads who hate everything pop call Lana "mainstream" a pop artist. Which is far from the truth. The fact is those artists these group listen to get more radio time than Lana. Gorillaz, Death Grip, Borns, Zella, Beach House, 1975, Artic Monkeys actually get tons of airplay on alt stations. Lana exists in an odd vacuum of popularity.

Lorde is on top 40 radio. Shes not alternative at all. Lana isn't even charting on alternative radio. Even artists like Grimes and St Vincent, Father Jonh Misty could chart. Her smile cover is so good. She needs to put it on the album as an album closer or something. It would be amazing if the album is filled with huge epic instrumentals then the final song is a simple Acapella. I would like that idea.
