In order to know what the hell was going on, I ended up skimming Ann Powers reviews.

 

Honest to god, I don't think Ann's review on NFR is THAT bad. I was expecting something scathing.

 

The Joni Mitchell was no big deal either. Pretty much that Joni's lyrics are complete in their description of what is going on (cooked) and Lana's wasn't too descriptive (uncooked). Not a great thing to say but also nothing that should have anger Lana so much compared to all the horrible things said about her years ago.

 

Lana should have said nothing and ignored it. By her tweeting that, she brought more attention to Ann's review. Now there's a bunch of journalist attacking Lana to defend Ann. Even going after Lana's plastic surgery and name change.

100%. I have also thought that BAR was about Barrie, so with the new lyrics it makes sense that she's rewriting the past because she wants him back now. I wonder if Barrie has any idea. I'm so intrigued because I guess I feel nostalgic about them.

 

Now--I know next to nothing about her (current?) bf Chase but I'm assuming songs like NFR, Cinnamon Girl, HIAB, Bartender, etc. are about him. Anyone have any opinions on this?

I thought those tracks could be about chase too. I wonder if they still together though. Mariner's apartment complex is a tough one

it's tough to pinpoint exactly who is the «guy» in her albums. The feelings of the songs are genuine, but I think she likes to play with the guys who are «described» in them (the guy in one song could actually refer to two or three boyfriends she had in her past, I think). However, I think the writing of NFR sure had some moments or feelings that were inspired by Chase.

Honeymoon is terribly underrated and underappreciated. BTD would be an overrated album, but HM is far from that. It's just that good. You can dislike it but objectively, the music quality is something else

I never got why TNBAR was referred to as Yosemite's sister track, since Yosemite's a love song that was too happy for lfl, but it would make sense if this new version was actually the scrapped version meant for lfl. Maybe the new version takes a turn and she starts singing the "you did it all for fame" towards the end?? Idk. It's a 6 minute long song, who knows.

there was a time she was off social media in April till July last year & the Israel show stuff & azealia drama but I don't think it excuses her choices in going to hillsong or churchsong or whatever.

She's minding her own business though, she's never spoke about the church or said people should go or how great it is(we wouldn't even know unless people werent there taking photos). It could be personal stuff like help with mental health, addiction, could be family problems o someone she knows with an illness or someone could have died.
