Omfg yess. Also some similarities with Cat Power, esp Pretty When You Cry.
I don't know if she got influenced by Garbage in particular, but that kind of sound suits her a lot.

but didn't she say he was on death row in for k? and there's a couple songs (dark paradise) that are obviously about death and it would make sense if that's who she was singing about.
Idk, knowing how Lana is, she probably thought it would be much more dramatic. I believe this is a metaphor - when you go in prison, your life is sort of over. Lana contradicts herself pretty much all the time so she's the least reliable source lol. What kind of crime you have to make to be on death row? I remember reading on songfacts that he was running an illegal electronic business.
Edit: Here it is:
Speaking to UK newspaper The Sun, Lana explained the background to this track: "It's a song about a man who thought I was one of the most exotic things he had ever seen and me indulging in his appreciation and love. On the outside he was handsome and wholesome, but under wraps he was running an illegal electronic business which ended up taking him and his friends under, hence the chorus — 'You look like a million dollar man, so why is my heart broke?'"

Why is everyone assuming K is dead, didn't she say he's still around and she keeps in touch with his mom? I think she did the whole 'I'm in love with a dying man' thing to make their love seem more dramatic and I guess being in prison for a long time is probaby worse than death imo, so that's why she wrote it that way. Wasn't he involved with some illegal underground business? Do they even give death penalties for stuff like these, idk how the American system works.

December 2011 when Born to Die came out. I fell in love with the song and downloaded Lana Del Rey aka Lizzy Grant.

One of her most personal interviews lately but also the saddest. It makes me so sad to find out how much the critics and the industry in general have sucked the light out of her :/

Honestly, they don't even feel like they were made by the same singer. I guess my choice on which I prefer would depend on my mood.

"Money, Power, Glory" even sounds like it's riffing on Lorde's "Glory and Gore," she is def. wielding daggers
Lmao Lorde is so dumb, what is wrong with being a hopeless romantic and having a great love story??? Life's too short for mediocre love bye. (and that's before Lana dissed feminism)
I stayed up until 3am to listen to the album and I need more time to make my opinion on it but IT'S SO BEAUTIFUL OH MY GOD. Fave songs so far are Florida Kilos, Fucked My Way Up To The Top, Ultraviolence, Sad Girl but I love everything else a lot too.

* Translation by me
The singer Lana Del Rey (27) talked in an interview with NEON Magazine about men and fantasy. "Men are my passion. I love the masculine enegry, their stability and predictability in relationships" said Lana to the magazine. Men are a big inspiration for her: "A lot of my friends are intellectual, creative men. A big part of the songs, which have a romantic sound are actually but not necessarily about love, but just about men, and the influence they had on me." Nonetheless she doesn't find sensitive men unsexy. "They simply have to know what they want. They don't have to be rich or to be, where they want to be, but they need to know the right direction." In 2011 Lana Del Rey became famous with the song "Video Games". In conversation she describes herself as a dreamer. "My passion is my fantasy. My fantasy makes my life deeper, color-intensive, like Technicolor."

omg she talks about the guru again. can you post the german version so i can read the original as well? thanks!

I actually believe it's quite the opposite. The more irrelevant album, the easier to get it leaked. When it's very hyped, it usually gets leaked a few days before the American release. The second album of my fav band got leaked a month before the release lmaoo

tbh now that when I'm thinking about it, a lot of people who loved btd would probably hate ultraviolence. btd was this perfect up-beat mixture of pop, hip-hop and indie with dramatic lyrics, while uv has a chill and jazz sound, like her lizzy grant days. and so far, lyrically btd >>> uv.
the era change could be off-putting for people too, i guess. how does someone go from something as luxurious and glam as the btd era to sepia colors and blue jeans/white shirts just like that lmao. what do you guys think? which era do you prefer?

lmao that's so fake bc The Other Woman is a cover and it doesn't have those lyrics in it
????
The girl probably didn't hear the lyrics right lol.

The Other Woman is a Nina Simone cover.
The other woman finds time to manicure her nails
The other woman is perfect where her rival fails
And she's never seen with pin curls in her hair
The other woman enchants her clothes with French perfume
The other woman keeps fresh cut flowers in each room
There are never toys that's scattered everywhere
And when her man comes to call
He'll find her waiting like a lonesome queen
'Cause when she's by his side it's such a change from old routine
But the other woman will always cry herself to sleep
The other woman will never have his love to keep
And as the years go by the other woman will spend her life alone
But the other woman will always cry herself to sleep
The other woman will never have his love to keep
And as the years go by the other woman will spend her life alone -
What is snapchat? I hear people talk about it often but I don't know what it even is??
It's an app for iOS/Android. You take pictures with your camera and you can edit them a little, for example adding a text in the middle. Then you can send it to your friends with Snapchats. The interesting part is that the picture you have sent them disappears after 1 - 10 secs (you choose how much time they have to see it) and then your friends can't see it, and vice versa. People strongly believe that the pictures disappear forever but the creator had denied this recently lol.
