1 hour ago, honeymoon is alive said:“the A&W hitmaker” IKTR lana being reduced only to summertime sadness is nowhere to be seen
I've talked a lot of shit about the Daily Mail in the past, but this is a definite win for them.

I'm happy that there will never be a video for A&W, because it's such a vivid song (both musically and lyrically), any actual visuals for it would trivialise it.

This was the first thing I saw when I opened IG
I literally lol'd at the comment 'Is this real?'

Jeff Tweedy (one of the main guys from Uncle Tupelo, the band who just about defined alternative country as a genre) and Bleachers covering Margaret. I never thought I'd see the day, and this is one step towards all the disparate threads of my life becoming one.
Edit to add - I didn't realise Jeff had mentioned Lana in the past!
Quote“Of all the big pop stars right now,” he said, “she’s great. Amazing, really. I mean, it’s incredible how huge her records are considering they are almost all ballads! There is this low simmering energy in them that isn’t about tempo or volume, but closest to Leonard Cohen, and yet she’s huge.” He smiled and shook his head at the thought.

I didn't get that feeling at all - he's not focused on just one celebrity in a scary way. Like a lot of people, he just likes meeting famous people, and this is just his third or fourth pic with Lana in the past five years.

I haven't watched it yet, but Abigail always does smart, in depth reviews of records so this was a fun one to pop up.

This is wild. I think there has been a very strong belief in the fanbase since HM came out that this was the case, but to have it actually confirmed is a whole other level.

This is on the level of those old conspiracy videos which showed politicians/stars on terrible quality videos on Youtube, and when they pixelated for a second, claimed that they were briefly being captured turning into lizards.
More to the point, this is what happens when a person who has only ever seen a woman on film or in magazines tries to go anomaly hunting looking at women's bodies.

Aside from a few song titles, I don't see any connection to Lana at all.
ETA: I mean musically. Lana is a big force in Billie's life, obviously, but I just can't see any direct influence at all.

This is another, longer clip of Sweet Home Alabama, which is not only a song about the place she's in, but an answer/diss track to Neil Young's Southern Man.
-
I've only listened once but enjoyed it quite a bit. I felt like a lot of it was looking back to the 90s and even 80s (strong Cardigans vibes on Birds of a Feather and Lunch).

The only excuse he has to not do it is if they get him up as backing vocals.

It's weird, because they're obviously a fan, but there's still this disconnect where fans don't think of the person they're fans of as actual humans.

I think a lot of so-called insiders are some variation of people whose cousin (or mom or boyfriend) is the IT guy for someone in the music industry. They have access to people's emails and leak information from that. Maybe they lose access when they get found out and lose their jobs, or their company stops handling Lana's material or something.

Honestly, I Iove it. And when it's someone like Byron, who has been so important to her music live for over a decade, it's well worth it.
