I've got two questions about the Urban Outfitters release. I figure y'all probably have definitive answers on this:
- Are there gonna be listening parties for the new album in the store? Or did that get stopped because of all the early Honeymoon leaks?
- Do you think they'll have physical copies in the UO stores next weekend? I'm going down to Miami for the end of the Rolling Stones's tour on the 31st (gonna be up by the nosebleeds, can't wait to see them any longer!) If there will be, I'll just stop at 1 of the stores down there. Plus, my university & UO gave us a 25% off anything that's on their website

I'm feeling so blessed this Thursday with the double music video/song release + The 1975's "People". I didn't listen to the whole songs up until now, & I'm really glad I waited.
MY THOUGHTS ON THE MVs:
tl;dr: I think this is my favorite pair of music videos from anybody, including Lana. These 2 songs & music videos connect A LOT of past (Lana) references.
Fuck It, I Love You:
- The whole music video is serving nods to the "Ride", "High by the Beach" & "White Mustang" music videos - Ride with her being in the bar, HBTB with her being on the beach, & White Mustang with the weird kitschy retro-futuristic stuff going on.
- The oil rigs from the end of the NFR trailer make more sense being in the vid. She started the song by specifically singing about Long Beach - there's old photos of oil rigs, lined up parallel to the ocean during the 1920s, along Long Beach & the L.A area.
- The extra shots with the surfer bodybuilder guy were funny.
- Lana SHAKING HER ASS, she just keeps showing off how sexy she is! Also, it reminded me of the "shaking my ass" line from hope...though I know she was just having fun onset.
- I need to learn how to surf again.
- California is indeed a state of mind - I can attest to it, living in Florida (but being born & raised in San Diego).
- Anyone else catch the reference to the Mama Cass song "Dream A Little Dream Of Me"?
The Greatest:
- Again, the oil rigs & shipping facility setting makes more sense. Lana's been adding in more (pseudo-)political remarks in her songs since L4L.
- I'm glad she referenced former Beach Boys member Dennis Wilson & his only solo album, "Pacific Ocean Blue". It's a long classic that is probably an inspiration for the whole album.
- The transition portion in between the 2 songs could've been filmed in San Diego, given how much ship/Navy stuff there is down there. The bar, too. But I know that the parts where she's in front of the bridge, with the word "Terminals" on it, is in LA.
- Possible reference I caught: So, there's another scene in the transition part of the 2 music videos, where it's just bubbles under the ocean & the camera's going down. Later on, Lana is on a high bridge (the one with "Terminals" across it) & scaffolds. If anybody is familiar with The Monkees, their movie "HEAD" starts off with 1 of The Monkees running across (what could be) this same bridge! And then he jumps into the water, and we see the camera descending under the ocean to a bunch of groovy stuff. You can see for yourself here: https://youtu.be/Q4nT-5DyjX0?t=143
- She really called out Kanye for making that Instagram post (about abolishing the 14th Amendment, wearing a MAGA hat) again What's even crazier is that Trump is considering attempts to repeal the 14th amendment...the one that guarantees birthright citizenship https://www.salon.com/2019/08/22/trump-again-says-he-is-seriously-considering-ending-birthright-citizenship-despite-14th-amendment/

I'm probably in the super minority here, but I'm ready to start a mosh pit the next time I see The 1975. More space for me to freak out I guess

i feel like i need someone to explain the tracklist to me, there's so many different styles on the album it doesn't feel cohesive even though i love most songs individually
I'll try & explain the connections I've made when I hear L4L (even though this is the NFR thread). For me, it's as if 1/2 of the tracks are more geared towards "Lust" & the other 1/2 towards "Life" (well, lusting for life amidst the fear of death). She scatters these 'lust' & 'life' tracks in a pattern. I don't care if this is a reach, but here's my track-by-track breakdown:
- "Love" -> life-affirming, since she's kinda addressing us (and addresses her self-love, towards the end)
- "Lust for Life" -> lust, since it's more about her & The Weeknd's chemistry. The music video is also a fantasy.
- "13 Beaches" -> life, given the beginning dialogue about not being other people & Lana's "dying for something real"
- "Cherry" -> lust; just hear that chorus again
- "White Mustang" -> This was a trickier song for me to mentally categorize, because it could be that she's looking back on someone she knew. But she also mentions "Armageddon", the man being a killer, & that "Summer's meant for lovin' & leavin'"... I would categorize this as a 'life' song.
- "Summer Bummer" -> lust, given the chorus bridge & A$AP Rocky's feature
- "Groupie Love" -> This song is like the opposite of ^ that's nonetheless attracted/attractive. I figure this is a 'life' song because it's almost like Lana's celebrating that she's got her man in A$AP Rocky. Plus, the applause at the very end makes it seem such.
- "In My Feelings" -> lust, because she's hyping herself up as the bad bitch she is
- "Coachella - Woodstock in my mind" -> life, because she's calling out for sustaining something greater than her own individual actions
- "God Bless America" -> In a break with this lust-life pattern I've categorized, I'd consider this a 'life' song. You can just tell from the title that she's celebrating female solidarity, and in the verses, she's affirming her own worth.
- "WTWWAWWJKD" -> I'd categorize this as a 'lust' song, but it's certainly slower than the other songs I labeled as 'lust' songs. When she addresses the girls, she knows not all of them can just go 'across the pond' to avoid the Trump administration. When she addresses the boys, she's calling out all their greed.
- "Beautiful People, Beautiful Problems" -> A 'life' song, because the lyrics present a more relatable/realistic situation (aside from the rivers running red with blood & walking through fire).
- "Tomorrow Never Came" -> A 'lust' song, even though it's another romantic duet, because of the lyrical content tying back to how Lana's hypothetical date didn't grow into a lasting relationship.
- "Heroin" -> From here until the album's conclusion, this pattern I made is broken. I'd consider this a 'lust' song because this is perhaps the darkest song on the album. Its placement on the track listing is akin to "The Blackest Day" off of Honeymoon. Not to mention the vibe where she's alluding to the Manson Family. Heroin's lyrics seem to be the (ir)rational outcome of Lana's lusting.
- "Change" -> Undoubtedly a 'life' song, and Lana's most personal song off the album. ALL of the lyrics are in the present tense here. The piano keys set up this so(m)ber vibe. (I imagine her sobering up here after letting go of the dark energy in the previous song). It's also the last song on the album to feature her falsetto voice. She also wraps up her 'summer', complete with harmonies, questioning her beauty & stability leading up to the falsetto-fied chorus.
- "Get Free" -> Now that Lana has released the dark energies, acknowledged the turmoil in this world (without compromising her values), and grown from her more vain expressions, she much more clearly sees & charts the path she's taking. She releases her negative energy by stating she 'crossed the threshold' & that 'the Crowley way of being' is gone. (Aleister Crowley was a famous practitioner of the occult arts, & was once described as the world's most wicked man). The pre-choruses suggest she won't allow herself to be consumed by society's false perceptions & projections of what an ideal life entails. She also indirectly states that she won't take us for granted, a suggestion made in 'Love'. And the 'out of the black, into the blue' lines feature increasingly contrasting harmonies, along with the keyboard sounds that I personally imagine as lighthouse lights, and along with the beach noises at the very end.
All in all, I hope the Lust For Life album makes more sense for you if you perceive these songs as being complimentary coupled up!

I am waiting on whether there will be a UO Exclusive variant too...complete with listening party & free posters
-
i still dk if i wanna shell out the money for the clear vinyl, im guessing there's no UO exclusive either.. hmph
She might be going for the "real n**** hours" aesthetic on this one. Is that Billie Holiday near the bottom too?
hold im sorry what the fuck is her instagram post

US store now says Autographed Vinyls & CDs are all sold out
Pricing remains the same for non-autographed versions
Basically $45 for the vinyl & $18 for the CD
I wonder if she'll do any merch bundles on the website too like other artists & their labels do. It was certainly out of character for that chance to have pre-autographed copies

Is anybody else wondering who the mystery guy is on the slightly edited LOVE poster (the one that was on Melrose?) I'm talking about this version of the poster Lana tweeted:
https://twitter.com/LanaDelRey/status/833107010732380160
Also, there's a flower above the lady in the silk dress on the bottom left?
Also, does anyone else think that the photo of Lana in the single cover/poster looks straight out of the Honeymoon video? I am not criticizing even though I know all this was rushed, I am truly ready for this era!!!
And as for collabs, I'm just going to list everyone she's associated with:
- The Weeknd
- A$AP Rocky
- Father John Misty (who also has new music out + getting major songwriting credits)
- Emile Haynie
- Arctic Monkeys
- Lykke Li
- Rihanna (posted her on her Honeymoon account)
- Guns N' Roses (the song + her getting an exclusive tour jacket from them @coachella)
- Marina and the Diamonds (replied to her tweets very early on in 2011,2012)
- Courtney Love
- Grimes
- Jimmy Gnecco
- (not expecting this one at all but we all know she used to date) Barry James O'Neill
- Marilyn Manson (starred in one of his unreleased music videos)
- Zella Day (recently followed on her Twitter acc)
Some other possible collabs as unlikely as they sound:
- Tyler the Creator (https://twitter.com/tylerthecreator/status/185417046627069952?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw)
- Juicy J (He replied to 1 of Lana's tweets: https://twitter.com/therealjuicyj/status/603033674095857665)
- Eminem (dissed her in 1 of his songs, knew it was all out of mutual respect)
- Azealia Banks (irrelevant now but she was friends with Lana at one point, attended Tropico premiere)
- Flatbush Zombies (said she liked them in this Fader article: http://www.thefader.com/2012/01/13/lana-del-rey-loves-flatbush-zombies)

Is anybody else wondering who the guy is on the slightly edited version of the LOVE poster, the one people were seeing on Melrose Avenue & in this Lana tweet?
https://twitter.com/LanaDelRey/status/833107010732380160
Could this be the new male model/boyfriend/daddy for the music video(s)?
-
Yea, I think lana changed the name from 'Young & in Love' to 'Love' because it was too similar to 'Young & Beautiful'..
..although IMO I feel like 'Love' as a title sounds too basic & cliche (ever heard of the famous 3D pornographic French movie Love? lol), but it's okay since the music is wonderful (especially the bridge!) & that's all that matters
I was thinking similar, but also 'Love' as a title reminds me of J.Lo's comeback album "LOVE"

Does the UO Honeymoon vinyl come with a CD/download code inside? Curious, please don't drag me. I'm still debating if I should spend my money on that or wait for the CD boxset in November...in time for my birthday

After re-watching the teasing music/lyric video for title single, did anybody notice (besides me) that Lana is laying down with a book on her palms, and that there's a camouflaged snake in the grass nearby? I am definitely feeling the post-Tropico redemption vibes from this song, and I really hope her inner confidence will shine on the upcoming album!
At first, I thought the book's spine said something about Islam, but then I took a screenshot, flipped it upside down, and I think it could read "Paradise Island"? Which would tie in to the Tropico theme of "Paradise Lost" by John Milton & the whole Adam + Eve scenario? Holy moly honeymoon...Lana is so smart!!! Did anyone notice?
I still don't know how to post a screenshot photo on here without making it too small

The unheard music hidden in the shrubbery,
And the unseen eyebeam crossed,
*for the roses had the look of flowers that are looked at*.
There they were as our guests, accepted and accepting.
*= Lana's Twitter bio when UV was released
I'm going to keep reading and analyzing the full poem. The metaphysics degree is being used for the best

I'm hoping a movie theater decides to show it near me soon. I've been anxiously waiting to see Amy on the big screen! Unfortunately I also found out that David Joseph destroyed all of Amy Winehouse's demos that would've been on her 3rd album had she lived...and that really makes me sad. He claimed it was "a moral reason"

In my case @@Jennaydelrey, YES you still have a fair chance at being 2nd row or even barricade in my case! However and logically this would only happen if you're far away from wherever the stairs are. I don't know how it works with two pits ENJOY THE SHOW REGARDLESS and if anyone from or near Ridgefield meets Lana LET US KNOW!
-
- Can somebody tell me whether these situations that happened to me are unusual or not?
2.)Lana Del Rey stopped the band moments after starting to sing "West Coast" and did an impromptu soundcheck!
- 3.)Lana throughout most of the show also happened to stay on the right side (her left) of the stage. But for "Born To Die", she came over to the left side of the stage & at one point was 5 FEET away from me! I raised my poster up & I could see her raise her eyes & her eyebrows at me. Also when she sang "my boyfriend's in the band" in "Brooklyn Baby", she looked towards me, raised her eyebrows, and smirked!
I can't expect Lana to do everything and of course all of these events (except the first one really) were all events I could have expected. I am once again still so thankful I got to see her but at the same time I feel like I may have duped myself.
Could it be the lack of enthusiasm in my crowd? Or the fact that many people got to the venue really late? Could it just be that the Hollywood Bowl show mattered more? Or am I just over-analyzing everything? Let me know what you think!!! I still have been so happy and thankful to have finally see her & Courtney in person!
-
I think this is a far out idea, but maybe she could have the box sets smell like honey or her favorite flowers? Sort of like how Marina's box set for the FROOT vinyls were "scratch-n-sniff" if I'm not mistaken, or how Katy Perry's Teenage Dream cover initially smelled like cotton candy once you opened the wrapping?

Thanks for re-assuring me! I'll still have to call the physical UO stores Friday or Saturday & see if they can just put a copy on hold for me. And then use my online discount that way. I just don't wanna wait weeks (or in one case, even a whole year) for an online order to get shipped through to my house
