  1. Thursday July 28th is the day she is playing.

unfortunately I will be busy with the Democratic national convention in Philadelphia that week so I can't drive over there

(it ends Thursday, Lana playing Thursday).

unless I change my plans of course, one day tix are on sale

btw, checkout Sunflower Bean they are a great new band lead singer with the delicious name of Julie Cumming

    Who are you supporting?

  2. FMJ is so overated imo, boring basic chord progression, lyrically he's like the "indie" version of Drake aka soft-funny-mysoginism, inconsistent arrangements & such obvious yet uninteresting repartee on songs like "the ideal husband". But he's got a good voice, charisma, ideas even though he can't translate them into full realization ; and he's a very very good performer. He's actually quite similar to 2015 Lana Del Rey in some ways, so match made in heaven tbh

    And he's kinda hot :creep:

The Ideal Husband is the only song I love - and yeah he's a very good performer! The ironising of everything and his ideas are pretty boring though. Agree he's overrated. Like this mild roast of yours though, lol.

  3. omg yesssssssssssssssss honeymoont LIVES

    epbPlzM.gif

i really hope they've got some new footage for this and it isnt just some bullshit left over stock montage of random shit.

and if shes REALLY bothered she'll give us some sort of long form video realness.

you and naachoboy are the shit! and yep agree...for fucks sake, give us something NEW and conceptually like she is making an effort like from BTD (omg some of you have me convinced).

  4. I think videos sort of just become secondary after a while, she's just making the music she wants to make (which is always best). I think she says "at the end of the day, I do it for me" in slight defense incase anybody does dislike things, but ultimately Honeymoon is definitely (at least from what I heard) the best vocal album of that year, the production is really great too. It's so cohesive but brings more elements along the way, I love that album so much. Her voice is so amazing. Visuals can be a part of it all in the way of photoshoots too, like I think more of the Neil Krug UV shoots than the videos bc there's only so many things you can do in videos.

Yeah I totally get why fans want the whole package - good tunes and writing, videos and visuals, vocals and live performances, social media etc. but she is great at the things out of those that are important to me, so not fussed about videos etc.

  5. yeah, i'm not just assuming. i can't find the interview right now but i remember her saying that rick nowels never says no to her. david kahn and dan auerbach had tension with lana in the studio at times because they weren't that way &, IMO, the result was amazing albums.

also, i never implied that she needs a "strong man" to help her, nor would i ever. however, music is collaborative & seeing as she doesn't play an instrument she will always be working with other people. (mostly men because the industry is male-dominated & lana herself chooses to work with men.)

i'm not saying all is lost or that she'll go the route of tori--that will only happen if she NEVER lets herself get challenged by whoever she's working with. being surrounded by yes men can lead to self-indulgence.

My impression of what she said was that Nowels is willing to experiment and try out her ideas. Not that anything she suggests sounds good and is given the go ahead. This is absurd otherwise an album would never be finished and as if the record company gives her absolute freedom. She was also frank about how Nowels offered up his ideas and what his roles are. That's what collaboration and creativity are, not simply shutting things down because you think you know better from the get go. There are always limitations when making music that is supposed to turn over a profit.

If BTD is so excellent because she worked with people who she had tension with...well yes tension or like conflict can be an important part of collaboration but she worked with Nowels on BTD too. Also we have no idea what the tension was about, Dan said it could stem from being a woman in the industry-it doesn't necessarily follow it's because Dan said no to her ideas in such a way which accounts for the brilliance of UV. He said himself he could see what she was trying to do but she was not there yet; Lana said it was great that Auerbach believed in her. Dan also spoke about how the record company brought in the other record producer who said everything was fine. You are speculating from simplistic ideas like collaboration has no conflict at all or has to have a set amount of conflict to claim that Lana surrounds herself with yes people to create an inferior product. There is just no evidence for that.

She also said in another interview that her tastes are changing and she will work with other producers. Re your response to strong man, seeing people saying she needs someone dominant like Dan to push her, that's what I reacted to.

  6. I think it's really strange that people assume Lana's co-producers in Nowels, of course men, don't challenge her and that she needs a really strong producer, of course a man, to do good work with. I can think of very few artists who don't work with at least one collaborator in terms of lyrics or production and create excellent music (even Pet Sounds, which people erroneously think Brian Wilson created on his own) so I do think Lana would need collaborators. But a woman artist being in control (whatever this means - she coproduced the whole album for the first time. But she has always had a strong vision and on HM talked about how the sound changed) seems to send the Lana concern pearl clutchers to speculate that if an album doesn't meet their expectations then she needs a strong male producer to save her from mediocrity. The comparison with Tori Amos is really off too.

  7. She's laughable at this point.

It's already been said - but how hilarious that she saw ONE VIDEO from Lana and now not only thinks she holds the default opinion of Lana's entire catalogue, but it also makes her previous remarks about Lana's "wish I was dead" quote even more egregious. Here's a girl who Ms. Gordon knows zero about, aside from one song and music video, and yet felt comfortable enough to not only lecture her about how to behave but also suggested she follow through with offing herself. What class.

Typical aging, out of touch white trash. Put her out to pasture. She's a perfect example of aging ungracefully.

Kim said she did it because she felt weirdly protective of Frances Bean and even questioned whether Frances knew Lana was a persona (her words). So condescending to Frances and Lana! I think Frances handled the issue well and Kim should just shut the fuck up about Lana for some of the reasons you said. It is not ok to make comments like that when the person could be seriously mentally ill and contemplating suicide. Kim's still hugely talented and not into crap like putting her to pasture.

  8. i think Francesco and Lana are a great couple, mostly because Lana seems like she's in such a great state of mind now, and i've kind of assumed a lot of that has to do with her relationship with him. In saying that, I don't think Francesco is a good guy. I thinks she's head-over-heels in love with him, and likes how things are between them and how they can both go about their jobs and whatnot, and I'm sure he has an attraction to her also, but it seems a little bit one-sided. You know?

I mean, it's difficult to talk about Francesco when I know so little, but wasn't there someone posting here a while back about direct messaging him a risqué picture on instagram and him following the girl who sent it? and there's these other scandals about him going on in the past few months that make me really doubt him a lot. I need to be sure he's good for Lanz :-(

I think it's the opposite - he loves her but she couldn't give a damn...but yeah she does seem better. and gross about the picture - really?

  9. Re: the touring thing if she's really still affected by SNL, she needs to get over it and know why she's doing this - for herself. Like really know it. Stop rebelling - thinking of the Rolling Stone interview last year - and just realise what an incredible talent she has, stop relying on these douche men and get on out there and kick some arse because she is freaking amazing, way more talented than Barrie and Francesco.

hmm wow this interview did things to me.

  10. @@evilentity slaying with so many relevant points  :defeated:

    You too, tbh!

leaked_version I agree that Lana fucked herself up with the I wish I was dead comments...I've made the same comments before but flouncing over this because none of us understand the music business? Over and over you conflate your enjoyment or lack of enjoyment of an album with sales...and yes I read BTD is not your fave. You did it again with ARTpop...that album was not a flop. You extrapolate from the most basic facts to make wild inferences. Has Lana been dropped from her record deal? Does she want to get out of it? There are indie faves who have massive exposure, do much more promo than Lana and still have low first week sales - they're still doing great and have contracts. She tours every year and we don't know what's coming next. Chill.

  11. Hi all,

I'm not very good with search but have people seen the typed-up interview from Index magazine (I saw the posted video in OP) - it's frigging excellent! Cool to see how Lana has had some of the same vibe all the way through - manufactured indeed!

Bob who knew Lana, Gaga and is referenced in Brea's article http://lanabrasil.com.br/interview-bob-leone-responsible-for-launching-lana-del-rey-and-lady-gaga-talks-about-the-past-of-both-early-career-and-the-honeymoon/

  12. But it's not really pop either

I don't get it, if it ain't alternative or pop wtf is it?

    indie pop!

nah it could be in Best Alternative...they are fools.

The Best Alternative category is usually off-the-hook good though. She would have no chance - even though she deserves it!!!

The Grammys suck but Best Alternative is prestigious and actually nominate deserving acts. St. Vincent was only the second woman to win this year!

  14. Thank God Lana isn't Taylor Swift

If Lana were Taylor Swift, she wouldn't have to copy Lana to be Taylor Swift as Taylor copied Lana to have a new style and song (not to mention Taylor actually did not only fuck her way to the top and then rat out every guy by name she actualy had a mega mega

rich father buy her the charts (and she herself changed the way country music charted to please her.)

I can't stand Taylor Swift but that is patently false about 'sleeping her way to the top' and it sounds sexist too. She just wrote about her relationships and banked on the publicity around them to sell those particular songs but she has not relied on that and she can write, even though I think her music is generally shit. The other stuff about her rich fam is true though, lol.

Anyway what I took from that quote was that Lana selling 109K in the first week, that is EXCELLENT as even reaching 500K IN A YEAR is like brilliant for major pop artists. Lana isn't one of those and isn't marketed to be like that either.

  15. Just read this in Taylor Swift's GQ interview about sales in the U.S.:

"...she’s sold 1 million albums in a week three times, during an era when most major artists are thrilled to move 500,000 albums in a year."

I also think some people are taking for granted that if she did more promo - no comment on how poor or not the promo has been - that she would sell in the millions. Maybe she fucked herself up with the wanting to be dead already answers last year so some tv shows aren't inviting her. Who knows.

  16. No, she didn't. Stop spreading false information.

The Weeknd, Fallout Boy, Luke Bryan, Meek Mill, Nicki Minaj, Meghan Trainor Florence And The Machine alone sold more during the first week. Let alone Drake, who charted twice with bigger numbers, having 2 albums this year selling more during the first week. Dr Dre, too. Or Lana's labelmate Kendrick Lamar. I ain't bothered enough to count more of them.

So, no. Lana's numbers are actually not anything special. Rather the opposite. Selena's numbers ain't surprising. She was never an album seller. Her last album didn't even go Gold in the US. But at least, when her album sales ain't that great, she can still call a big hit this year in the US her own. Lana can't since her singles after the Summertime Sadness remix ain't selling shit.

And Janet didn't open up with less than 100k. She sold 109k which is 4k more in pure sales than our homegirl. Besides, Janet selling over 100k in this sales climate as a veteran is pretty impressive. Lana as a quite new artist should outdo her easily, which she didn't.

So pls, before you post, rather inform yourself and stop trolling this place.

Yes, and Janet got those figures with NO PROMO.

graham4anything, when will your fave? check your aftershave before you come for Janet the legend...

    <3

p.s. i don't care about these stan wars, just joshing yas but no messing with Janet, OK? xxxx
