this might sound strangely specific but i'm hoping for more drug references on this record because i've always really loved the way lana writes about drugs. obviously not expecting "snort coke off my tits daddy then fuck me on the balcony" or whatever :toofunny:  maybe it's just bc i'm a druggy myself idk but i've always loved some of her lines about drugs, even her recent ones, like on cinnamon girl for example: "all the pills that you take / violet, blue, green, red to keep me at arms length don't work". such a sad and poetic line that says so much about our self-medicating culture and also how so many of us deal with the pressures of relationships and stuff idk :( and of course all of heroin is super heartbreaking and beautiful. but then you have fun, cheeky lines like in heavy hitter - "lets ch-ch-change our dna" - and since drugs are kind of a taboo topic it's always fun to see how an artist might tackle writing about them!

That is the general sonic direction everyone seems to be taking now. Post covid era.

Billie. Lorde. St Vincent. Lana. Taylor.

I wont be surprised if Katy comes up with something similar too.

Also let's not forget. Lana was leaning into folk in some parts of LFL which she explored further in NFR . And leaned into a country-folk-indie production on COCC.

    I don't understand how u can say TG,CG,TFJ,DT,FIILY,California are mellow .

She is changing her style of writing and singing to make it more autobiographical than ever

    I’m talking mainly chemtrails

also this place is turning into shit, like y’all are just being rude and taking anyone who expects more from Lana after these recent singles and grouping them into the “fake fans who want Lana to be a depressed coke whore who makes music for bottoms to bop their non existent twink asses to” bullshit

Y’all are just as toxic as the kids on Lana Twitter who have this weird holier than thou complex that talk shit on tiktok stans for being locals

I’ve been a fan since 2012 and for the last time do NOT want Lana to go back to her old sound singing about sugar daddies and whatever I want her to EVOLVE and continue exploring new sounds like she used to, I know she’s not a basic pop girl and don’t expect that from her, Jesus, coming back to this thread when there’s actual news cause what the fuck

If you look at the rest of the personnel on that records there are hoards of other instruments on top of these tracks that feature piano, on these last two records especially Cocc there’s only a handful of instruments besides piano.

Um no... Piano on a track doesn't mean its a Piano Ballad.

    NFR

    Uh no...

songs that feature piano and instrumentally mainly based around a piano*

And the title song Norman Rockwell video literally has Lana sat fake playing on a piano.

Endless stream of one on Chemtrails, two on NFR?

According to Tidal the personnel for keyboard and piano appear on the following

    Norman Fucking Rockwell

Spilled:diva: sorry but who's really that brain dead to prefer those tired selfies over an official shoot.:bye:

Lana if you’re reading this I want another album with songs that have ENTIRELY Los Angeles romanticization ballads, please sing about Nikki Lane and keep driving your career into the ground with every release so that you don’t have any fame left to complain about!

manifesting single covers visuals with selfies of Lana and her feet with a super 8 filter filmed by Chuck and instead of promoting the album on Instagram she posts happy birthday messages to random white people none of us know!!!!!!!!!

And what most people seem to forget is that only now Lana is in full control of the production on her albums. Back to the BTD and UV eras, she didn’t have as much control on her music as she has now. People seem to forget that she never liked This Is What Makes Us Girls’ final production, and she did quite a few demos before that. She had to release something she didn’t like. And for UV, she was often fighting with Dan on the production. If she had had a bigger hand on the production, BTD and UV would’ve probably sounded much different.

And you’re totally right, NFR and Chemtrails aren’t even similar, apart from the fact that we can tell Jack was the producer, but just like we can tell that Rick worked on HM and LFL :/

I seriously don't get the NFR/Chemtrails/BB comparison. Yes, all 3 have piano but so did every other Lana album.

Visuals are also way different. NFR was all about beaches and the sea (album photoshoot, the MAC visuals we got in September, the double MV, Doin' Time to some degree too). Chemtrails was a mixture of country club owning rich woman, the midwest and whatever that weird (but great) blue/green Neil pics were. We don't have much from BB other than the album cover so we'll see.

All I see from NFR to BB is the natural evolution Lana's music had since the last folky tracks from LFL but still every album has a different vibe to it.

Yes, the genre hopping she did from BTD to UV to HM was great and very interesting but it's also nice to see a more slow progression in her sound.

Also c'mon NFR came in 2019 and we'll have 2 2021 albums. It's not like she's been doing the same sound (that's not even the same) for 10 years straight.

I mean, it’s not that the songs she’s released in the last 2-3 years are bad, we know they’re very good and there a couple stand out incredible moments like the Greatest but like come on most of us have been stans since like 2012 and half the anticipation every time we hear a new snippet is us thinking (hoping) the song will break down into something more exciting when it’s eventually released, the sound is tired she used to use an eclectic range of different voices and singing styles and topics but she’s been singing in the same delicate “I’m vulnerable” tone for YEARS now, we all love her but 90% of the hype in these pre release threads including the last 1-2 records have been us hoping that she’ll give us more

Wildfire here: while I miss the Paradise/Honeymoon and UV sound, I really don't expect Lana to make another record with that same old sound (maybe something similar in a very long time from now, but not equal). Real artists evolve and she is one of the few modern mainstream artists that have done this many times in a very little space of time. She came from folk to experimental indie rock to arabian electronic music to dance music (Boom Like That strikes again) to hip hop to chamber pop to pop to jazz to rock to blues rock to orchestral jazz rock to trip hop to trap to folk rock to piano ballads to soft pop rock to country-influenced music to indie folk to singer-songwriter style and I'm sure this list will get each album longer. She's just like Bowie or Madonna, she "keeps changing all the time". Everyone have different tastes and everyone must respect the differences between us, but we can't just keep driving in a white car and living in an endless delulu world tour. There's something we all must agree and know about, something that is necessary for a better world of equality, justice, respect and love: Boom Like That - Leak of the Decade

Lana literally evolved the most between BTD and PAradise and Ultraviolence and even Honeymoon, all those albums sound wildly different from one another, I’m not saying I want her to make another record with “that same old sound” I want her to reignite the fire she used have under her ass that got her to create entirely new soundscapes every era for those first few years

Using less and less instrumentation with a less larger sound and basing everything around a piano is not “evolving”, it’s being stagnant

understood - we all just want glam baddie music. but i cannot forgive: "menopausal geriatric ass bitches Joni Mitchell and Joan Baez" :oprah2: :willcut: anyway, let's just all listen to heavy hitter

I apologize for that, there’s just something cathartic about being verbose and dragging innocent white women for comedic relief, I see why Azealia does it ???

(just ranting for fun, not insulting them seriously xx)

dude lol ur on lanaboards. a lana fan forum. so idk why u are saying this shit about lana's artistry on a literal forum made to idolise her music :smile3: tempted to beat ur ass up tbh :smile3:

Babe I love Lana and will defend this puta till I’m blue in the head, I just miss being excited being a stan for her, she is by far my favourite artist but it’s difficult connecting with her music the same way, like releases used to be so well thought out and her artistry commanded so much grandeur and escapism that really made things interesting but I can’t help but feel her releases these last few records have felt so much like she’s caved into trying to appeal to critics and like an older crowd as if her audience isn’t entirely made up of Generation Z listeners

Like I don’t want her depressed, some of unreleased happy Lizzy songs are some of her BEST and I def wouldn’t want her to be singing songs about partying and drugs or whatever it is commonly associated with younger artists, but maturing definitely does not need to mean making more boring music

Laid back instrumentation DOES NOT imply better quality art and honestly with a few standout tracks Chemtrails was honestly a miss and whilst these last 3 singles are beautiful melodically it’s like...girl we’ve heard this a million times

She experimented so much as an artist in the past, and I can’t help but feel she’s stagnated as an artist like we’ve been stuck on like the same similar topics in different fonts for like so long, her writing has grown leaps and bounds which is great but at the end of the day it’s music and if it sounds sonically boring it’s boring like if I wanted to hear literature I’d listen to an audiobook

  11. The way we’re probably gunna get another boring piano ballad album about her being a rich woman in California who loves to hate being famous with random but “clever” lyrics that are marina tier cringe about climate change and racial tensions in America that she low key only writes to impress her new targeted audience that consists of long time menopausal geriatric ass bitches Joni Mitchell and Joan Baez’
