Music (& stuff) people like that you tried to get into, but can’t

Absolutely no hate to the artists I’m listing; I just don’t have an affinity for their music because of personal preferences that often have little to do with any objective measures: •MARINA: Her music is sonically a bit upbeat for me—probably an odd sentiment, but yeah. This is obviously subjective, but her music has a harsh quality that I’m not too fond of. I like ridiculously soft music, and I just perceive it as a bit rough (if that makes sense). •Melanie Martinez: Her work obviously has strong, cohesive themes, but I personally perceive some of her work as impersonal because of how much focus goes into these concepts. While likely intentional, the emphasis on childlike themes lends to writing that feels immature at times. -
it’s literally so good. I’ve seen SO many people (even outside of LB) have Chemtrails in their Top 5 songs I never thought one of my favorite Lana songs would be something so soft and happy-sounding. We need another COCC

I had the exact same thought!!!! While I love Text Book as an opener (the suspenseful pause, the mature spin on the “daddy issues” trope she was criticized for, etc), I love the idea of her opening with WFWF For one, WFWF is the epitome of BB to me: unfathomably personal, a concise response to the intrusiveness of critics, and a summary of her personal commitments with the record. I even think it could have made a great closer as a sort of self-revealing finale that ends “in flames.” I also just like the idea of the last word of Blue Banisters being “learn” to transition into the next record lol
-
also considering her LA To The Moon tour opened with 13 Beaches…one could have only hoped

Omg thank you! I was honestly shocked at how many people dislike Carmen! For me, at least, it feels like one of the more intimate tracks on BTD that tells a story with a really clear direction. The imagery—even if repeated in other songs of hers—feels so intentional. Also, it’s rare that we see Lana refer to herself in third person (assuming it is indeed about herself) which is really refreshing

Maybe it’ll be a Blue Banisters situation where we have a chunk of tracks by one main producer (potentially Mike Dean??) and a handful of songs by another (Antonoff?). I don’t know, though! I find it interesting that Emile Haynie and Mike Dean were meeting, though. The flowers on Haynie’s story almost make me think they don’t meet often, and I like to think they’d get together for Lana…or so I hope
-
Tbh I mostly just included it because she was a writer whose personal life was publicized after she became famous & also contained a lot of confessional work like Lana.. kinda tried to mirror the Plath reference in HIADT but maybe it was not the move/insensitive & I should delete it, my apologies. Just lmk and I’ll remove it because I truthfully don’t know a ton about Woolf outside of her work!
-
I still have hope she’ll completely surprise release an album one day: no prior singles, no hints, etc. The thought of waking up to a Lana album without any preconceived notions of it…amazing. Then again, I want her to get her money’s worth with the promotion she does do, but a gay can dream
-
Same here. While Lana’s notoriously misleading with her descriptions, I think that’d be nice hype fuel. I wouldn’t be surprised if we get a country record aside from the covers album, but Mike Dean saying they’ll be working together in the future really muddies that idea. She’s always full of surprises lol

Cat Power has obviously has major influences reaching into Lana’s discography, but this one in particular would (imo) be a beautiful cover if she goes this direction It’s heartbreaking, has religious undertones, and even has the mandatory “blue” reference
-
also manifesting an existential moment specific to aging—so much of her music is about her youth, and I’d love to see a full circle moment Venice Bitch kinda had one (watching the neighborhood kids while also noting that she’s getting older), but we need a Landslide moment methinks
-
I’m probably alone in this, but if she works with Jack again, please bring back Venice Bitch’s fuzzy guitars!! Imagining Lana’s muffled vocals over something like this is heavenly
-
I wish Lana would do another NFR-esque cover in the future…or at least something a little avant-garde. I know some people hate it, but I found that it was creative and really solidified the record as this apocalyptic invitation in the day-to-day life of LDR.

too lazy to fix where the edit fucked up, but.. Title: Lana Del Rey Producers: Mike Dean, Emile Haynie Cowriters: Emile Haynie, Jack Antonoff 1. The Fame Card 2. Hot To The Touch 3. Williamsburg 4. We Don’t Even Have To Make Love —————— 5. As Cold As You 6. Rock Candy Sweet 7. Dad 8. A Woman Turns Forty

I still have hope that maybe she’ll cover this some day; I could hear Jack and Lana killing this in a studio. The whole notion of a woman who—no matter how close you think you are to her—will always hide away her own inner world like that of a secret garden is just so Lana, and c’mon, it’s Springsteen!
