  1. Greetings!  I haven't posted here in ages.  I have listened to "Lust for Life" and I like most of the songs.

I wondered if anyone else caught some of the references to other songs in hers.  For example:

"Love" -- she says "Don't Worry Baby" several times, perhaps a reference to the Beach Boys song of that name?

"Cherry" -- several occurrences of "Rosemary and Thyme," possibly a nod to Simon and Garfunkel "Scarborough Fair" (the words "Parsley, sage, rosemary, and thyme")

"Coachella" -- the words "Stairway to Heaven" come up during the chorus; possibly an homage to Led Zeppelin?

"Tomorrow Never Comes" -- this one has a couple.  I heard "Tiny Dancer" a few times (Elton John song), as well as what sounded like "Lay Lady Lay" (Bob Dylan)

    Any others? :)

  2. I didnt know she had this much money. I dont know how accurate these celebrity net worth websites are but she is estimated to have 12M. Weird that she dropped 9 million on houses? I guess theyre good investment or smth...

she probably sold the other house and I think her actual networth is probably around 15 mil.

Don't forget, most people, celebrities included, don't usually just plunk down the entire cash value for a house.  They generally do what the rest of us do: Go to a bank, get a loan, and finance the house.  Banks will happily loan money to people with lots of money, because they know they'll get it back.  And she'll probably get a ridiculously low interest rate.  And since mortgage interest is tax-deductible, that's another reason not to pay cash for a house.  So, if she's worth $15M before buying those houses, she's still worth $15M after, plus more, because now she has the value of those houses in her portfolio.

The reason I even know this is that many years ago, I worked for an IT consulting firm, and one of our clients was a mortgage broker.  One of the broker's clients was former San Diego Padres baseball hall-of-famer Tony Gwynn.  He bought a nice house in Poway (suburb of San Diego), and he could have easily paid cash for it, but he financed it to get the tax break.

  3. I haven't been on the forum in a while, but I just popped in and saw this post, so I thought I'd contribute my opinion.  Hope y'all don't mind. :)

It seems like this topic has been creeping into every discussion on here lately and I wanted to get everyone's take. Many of you seemed pretty unmoved by Lana's recent endeavors (basically the whole Honeymoon era :toofunny: ), but if I recall correctly, this was the original attitude towards Ultraviolence as well, and now it seems to be the fan favorite. So was Honeymoon just a single case of mediocrity in Lana's vast discography or has she reached her peak? Or...is everyone simply a pressed Born to Die Stan lol?

I personally like BTD/Paradise the best.  I love Chamber Pop... that's why I like those albums so much.  It's also why I like songs like Adele's "Set Fire to the Rain" and Coldplay's "Viva la Vida."  My second favorite LDR album is Honeymoon, followed by UV.  (I'm not including any pre-LDR albums.)

Artistically, I don't think she's declining. She's exploring different sounds with each album, so it might be hard to take if you're super attached to a sound from one specific era of hers. You have BTD stans who keep waiting for her to return to that style of music, UV stans who wanted her to continue that way, meanwhile Lana just wants to make songs with whatever sound she finds interesting at the time.

She is definitely exploring different things.  UV was a HUGE departure from BTD/P, and HM is, at least in my opinion, not the return to the BTD/P style that people were touting it to be.  I see it as somewhere in between BTD/P and UV stylistically.  That said... see next comment.

i think she's gotten better musically over time for me personally. i find her to be a far more interesting artist now then when she first came out, even though i loved her when she first came out too.

I think a lot of people will agree with this, especially in terms of her vocal quality.  Her voice has come a LONG way since BTD/P... she's more solid, more confident, sings more strongly, better vibrato, etc.  As far as the "quality" of her music goes, that's subject to everyone's interpretation (including mine).

I just hope she won't settle down within her comfort zone too much, because that's what I felt happened with Honeymoon. High quality songs, but nothing new, nothing exciting ...

It seems like with each new album, she's trying something a little different.  Hopefully, that will continue with the next one.  I'd love to see another BTD/P-style album myself, but I'd also be happy with whatever she puts out (as long as it's not rap, LOL).

Honeymoon is her second best album :oprah:

I'm with you on that one. :)

One thing I've noticed over the years is that, other than concerts, she has pretty much stopped making public appearances (in person, or on TV).  Whether that's her own doing or that of her record label, I couldn't say... just something I've observed.

  4. Lucky Ones! It's such a gorgeous song, it kills me that she's never sang it or acknowledged it. Also, Flipside and The Other Woman

Wow, you mean I'm not the only one here who likes "Lucky Ones"?  I would love to hear that live.  And "Flipside," although it would just be her and Blake; the other guys would just be sitting around watching, LOL.

  5. She says "We've never really done that one" (I think!) meaning her + the band. She did it before, but I think it was only acapella. Maybe that's what she means.

I saw a video from last year of her singing "Old Money" a capella, although she only sang a small part of it.  However, she and the band DID perform it in Mexico City last October (that was the live debut of the full song), and she performed it again at her very next concert at Hollywood Forever (I was there!).  It's such a beautiful song, especially hearing it live... that's why I was disappointed that she didn't perform it in San Diego.  But she apparently did perform it later in the tour.

  6. I still can't believe she sang Old Money, it was amazing

I loved hearing Old Money live at Hollywood Forever last year.  She had only started singing it live at her previous concert in Mexico City.  I was disappointed that she didn't sing it at her show in San Diego last month, but I was at least happy to have Brooklyn Baby in the mix.  Interesting that she took that out in favor of Ride at this show.  Maybe she wanted some more Paradise representation, since all she had at my show was Cola.

  7. I am also going to this show. I have a non VIP pit ticket, and I really want to get as close to the front as possible. I'm totally committed to arriving at six in the morning, but I called the venue and they said that their parking lot doesn't open until two hours before the show. So I don't know what to do, was anyone else planning on arriving VERY early?

I think your best bet would be one of 2 things:  1) Have someone drop you off if possible (and pick you up afterward, of course, or hitch a ride with someone), or 2) Park off-site as close as you can (I had to park about a mile away) and walk in, and once the lots open, have your neighbor in line (you'll probably be friends by then, LOL) hold your spot for you while you walk back to your car and drive in to the parking lot.

EDIT:  Also, forgot to mention this, but the Silver VIP people get in first.  At my venue, which has a fairly good-sized pit, the Silver VIP people almost completely filled the first 2 rows of the pit.  There were people camping out the night before, but it didn't help them get to the very front, since us Silvers got in first.  But at least if you get there early, it gives you a better shot at being at least *close* to the front.

  8. @@kik and @@buster: Whoever buys the tickets (i.e. the name they were purchased under) has to be present to pick them up.  At my show, they checked our IDs twice: Once when they first came through the line looking for us Silver people, and again just before we went inside the gates.

That said, I do remember seeing something in the e-mail I got saying that whoever purchased the tickets could contact LiveNation and have another person added on who is authorized to pick up tickets.  There was a guy waiting in line with me whose mom had bought his ticket.  Even though his last name was the same as hers, which made Natalie less suspicious :), he still had to call his mom and have her text him a picture of her ID so he could show it to Natalie.

In my case, I had purchased a total of 3 tickets.  I figured my wife would use one if she went, and then I could sell the other one.  Since she didn't go, I ended selling both, but since I was there, it wasn't a problem.  One of my ticket buyers was already there when Natalie came through, so I told Natalie the girl was with me, and she got her wristband directly.  I took the other wristband for my other ticket buyer, who showed up just before 5.

  9. Thank you!!! Our Pit experience in Dallas taught me that if I'm going to be in the Pit, may as well get early entry ha! Someone said we may get to listen to sound checks, not sure, but that would be exciting.

What is included in the gift bag, if you don't mind me asking? And you said Security came around 11:00/noon...do we need to get there that early?

The sound checks at my venue were pretty early in the day.  We could hear them from outside, but they were done before even the gold VIP people got in.

The gift bag itself was a black bag with the Endless Summer tour picture on it, and it said "Lana Del Rey" above.  It also had, for lack of a better description, a roughly 3'x3' banner inside that also says "Lana Del Rey" and has the Endless Summer tour picture.  I tried to take a picture and post it, but the forum won't let me. :-/

I'm not 100% sure about the timing for Gold VIP.  Your best bet might be to start a new thread to see if anyone else here has done the Gold VIP to see what they did.  I'd imagine that you could arrive around 4:00 and ask one of the security people where the Gold VIP people line up.  Natalie will be around there somewhere and will make sure you get your wristband.  Also, a couple of days before the show, you'll get an e-mail from Live Nation which will include Natalie's cell number.  You can call or text her if you're unsure (but only the day of, as specified in the e-mail you'll get).

  10. Thank you, my friend and I have Gold but we also have VIP Pit...long story, but Live Nation told me we could use our Pit tickets instead of the assigned seats which is great!!

Wow... that's quite a deal!  If that holds true, then you're in a pretty unique situation and you should get first entry into the Pit and get an ideal spot!  (I'd suggest right at the bottom of the stairs where Lana comes down off the stage... best shot at a selfie!!)  Good luck! :)

  11. How soon do people with Gold VIP Packages get into the venue? Do they enter before Silver VIP?

I suppose that depends on the venue, but most likely, yes. They did at our venue, at least. But Gold VIP ticket holders had assigned seats, so they got to go in early and sit around... not sure what the point of it was, really. :)  There may have been other perks that I'm not aware of, since I didn't have Gold VIP.  I thought I heard that they get food brought over to them, too (foo was presumably included in the price, too).  At my venue, one of the security guards came by around 11 AM or noon looking for Gold VIP people.  It wasn't Natalie or anyone else from Live Nation.  But that could be different for you; I have no idea. :)

Whoops, forgot part of my answer. :)  When us Silver VIP people were taken inside the parking lot area to wait outside the gate, the Gold VIP people were already there.  They went in the gates about an hour before we did.  What happened after that, though, I have no idea.
