not really because no one is "complaining about things she hasn't released" everyone is just discussing rumored future releases lmao (ldr 10, unreleased album, collabs etc.) this thread is kind of funny sure, but i feel like it's annoying to make tons of threads like these (and i think this happens because people want to make sure their post/question gets attention) that only end up getting like 25 replies at most and are very specific, which clogs the threads and then it's harder to find stuff. it's not a huge deal but there are threads like the minor general questions that don't deserve their own thread for a reason:um2:

What’s interesting about repeating how upsetting it that she promised to release things she hasn’t? Literally zero point in discussing.

  2. They're sOoooo cute tg, but he seems so not her vibe. Which is maybe a good thing?! Like he seems happy and stuff. Bless him

It is odd how she pops up all over the map. Tomorrow she'll be in Texas throwing snowballs and laughing. Then she'll catch hell for it.

How is it odd that a famous rich person likes to travel lol

I really hope that I'm not the only one who had this problem...

You hear about a thing, let's say that it's some band. Maybe it's popular, maybe all your friends currently like it or recommend it to you... You have high hopes. The problem is that liking the thing might be harder than you thought... so you endlessly force yourself to listen to it, in hopes that sooner or later something's gonna click.

My personal example is Marina and the Diamonds. I've heard a lot about how interesting and smart her lyrics are, how creative she gets with her videos... Not to mention that a lot of feminists praised her. My friend is extremely into her. A lot of Lana stans also like Marina.

I really wanted to like her music, but obviously thing went awful. I found her first record boring, and Electra Heart was too... American-poppy for me (no offense). I tried to convince myself that I like it for a week or so, and then gave up.

Not to mention that I started hating her lyrics, because they were pasted all over tumblr like some Bible gospel.

Despite that, I must say that Bubblegum Bitch (I know that I kind of contradict myself, but what can I do) and Teen Idle are fun songs. :agree:

Have any of you guys and gals ever shared this experience? Doesn't have to necessarily be with music, can be with anything else (actually, I have another example - a certain writer's work - but I am not strong enough to get into this shithole right now :horror:)

Marinas music really, really, especially sucks in my opinion. Like pure trash and horror to my ears, and makes you depressed and just blegh

You acutally believing anythign she writes/sings is a direct representation of her life - which is accidently a represantation of multiple archetypes, ideas and role fantasies is a pedestal. Apart form that you completely deny her any form of actual agency in her artistry.

She literally roleplayed Jacky Kennedy, Marilyn Monroe, a bike-riding prostitue, Mary, Eve and Malena.
She obviously got inspired by Priscilly Presley and the Lolita-movie-adaptations.The West Coast mv is a reference to an old Chet Baker documentary.
She's in love with romanticised concepts like Old Hollywood and the American Dream. All of her home-made movies are full with that kind of inspirations and fantasies.
And all of her poetry-work is extremely focussed on vintage-typewriter visuals and Sylvia Plath.

She's an artist, so obviously she DECIDED to do all of this, because she likes the respective visuals/sounds/vibes and thinks they reflect her own feelings or serve as a good metaphor for her own experiences.

Using history/visuals/cinema/art/poetry she is inspired by does not contradict that she is writing the autobiography of her life in her songs. If she herself states this repeatedly, who are you to argue otherwise? You can’t make up her life for her to fit your boring standards.
She cites a sparse, Cat Power-ish tune called “Disco” and “Trash Magic”. “I felt I was really capturing my life in song form, and it was such a pleasure.”’
Disco is about being a stripper.

Let me guess - you are part of the over-delusional Twitter/Instagram-stan brigade :toofunny:

Instead of putting her on a pedestal you could just acknowledge her artistic capabiities as a writer and creator.

How is any of that a pedestal? It’s her actual life ??????I don’t use social media and hate that word Stan, for anybody. Go ahead and name one thing I stated that was incorrect. You can’t so stop saying her music is metaphors.

I hate when people say this shit. She draws from personal feelings and experiences but ... she's an artist. Obviously there is a lot of metaphors, imagery and symbolism. Apart form that, she loves archetypes and will constantly use them. And it's not like she has not borrowed from historic people like Marilyn or played role-fantasies like the trailer-park-girl, the GoGo Dancer and the rich golddgger-wife.If you really take that literally, you have a very flat understanding of art and writing

Played role fantasies?? You mean when she actually WAS a beautiful unhappy hollywood starlet with mental issues, DID live in a trailer park, was likely a stripper, and dated ultra rich men like record executives and francesco corrizini? Peoole who can’t take her life as it is and make up metaphors she hasn’t explained herself are trying to explain away their own boring lives/selves bc they find hers too fanatical and adventurous.

Do you really think she fucked her teachers, was a gogo dancer who cooked cocaine in the kitchen while her daddy ran around with guns in Miami while he tells her that her pussy tastes like Pepsi??? And she's ended up in Rikers Island once already?

If you're gonna use the "i believe every word she says in every piece of work she does" card, maybe you should listen to when she says "I like to make up stories about my very cherry bomb"

Yes, you act like it’s not likely these things happened. She said Barrie james actually did tell her American girls act like their pussies  taste like cola and that’s where the lyric came from. And it’s hard to believe she dated drug dealers with guns?? LOL guessing you have/had a boring middle class life experience if that’s shocking to you. And she likely was a stripper, considering how many times she mentions it in earlier songs and even was a stripper in her music video for Gods and Monsters. “motel singer or the silver pole, I did what I had to do”  she really was a motel/bar singer at one point so why not a stripper? And she could have fucked a teacher, or at least flirted/wanted to. I wanted to w a professor. You can’t just reject things as elaborate story telling bc they seem crazy to you personally. To some of us, it’s really not

There’s no way of knowing for sure obviously unless Lana herself explains it, but we know Sylvia, Marilyn, and Diana are not just mere famous women to her that she listed - they hold a special place in her heart and I’m sure Lana identifies with their stories in the same way she probably identifies with the stories that have been passed down to her in her family - likely ones about her great-grandmother, Violet.

I just don’t know if it’s her grandmother, doesn’t make sense to me. The other 3 women she’s never met and were famous, not contesting they weren’t special to her. They all died in their 30s and then Lana mentions she’s 34. Her grandmother died at 71. I just don’t see the connection.

the only “Violet” I can think of who fits in with Sylvia Plath, Marilyn Monroe, and Princess Diana (?) is “Dion Fortune”—who’s real name was Violet. She was an occultist and philosopher.

But I’m guessing this is a different Violet than in the other poem. Maybe toddler Violet is Lana’s inner child, or maybe Violet happens to be her baby name of choice and wanted to write a poem about her unborn child?

Lol have to disagree since she states “All of my kind women who came before me, blonde” but another clue is this person is blonde!

I thought she was playing a character??? is she not? i didn't think she was talking seriously but at the same time, she also wrote patten leather do over she says "that's why i'm here at this facility by the ocean" and she says "fallen asleep by Gabapentin" which is used to help seizures and overactive brains (people who are bipolar or schizophrenic)

I hate when people say this shit. I don’t know how many times she has to tell us her songs and self are authentic and about herself and her life. I mean I don’t think she named her entire second poetry book “insights from the institution” to “play a character”

I'm aware she has made a lot of songs about Barrie but since this song was probably recorded in the periodt where she was dating the cop, probably these lines are about him. Plus, it's been 6 years since she splited with Barrie (although that doesn't mean anything but js)

So why would she sing about it being “not too late” if they were just beginning to date?

    21 hours ago, RormanNockwell said:

I've been listening to the song a lot the past few days and thinking about the meaning behind the lyrics, etc. She stated in the Interview interview that it's about normal life, and I think that the song more or less expands upon a line found in "My Bedroom is a Sacred Place":

"I go on trips to the beach with my friends and they don't know that I'm crazy"

She pretty much repeats that sentiment twice in COCC ("I'm not unhinged or unhappy, I'm just wild" and "I'm not bored or unhappy I'm still so strange and wild")

So I think the "country club" represents normality and the "chemtrails" represent the burden of fame. Everything is peaceful, mundane, normal - country club suburban bliss, but there are these insidious, ever-present "chemtrails" lurking all the time, threatening the normality. Things can never quite be normal because of her fame, and furthermore, she doesn't feel that most people know who she truly is, hence the "wild" part with the vampires and wolves, and then she comes home back to her house and washes off all the blood in the shower and carries on trying to be "normal" once more.

I think the word chemtrails represents that she’s a secret conspiracy theorist and knows the truth about how evil the people around her are and therefore chooses to think free and live wild.
