  1. she’s too visually intelligent to do this kind of cover off the cuff. it had to have been done like this intentionally; down to earth, and glaringly unpretentious, possibly to match that new midwest sound she’s going for or whatever. i mean honestly this looks like a cover for any run of the mill coffee shop singer in the early 2000’s but maybe that’s exactly what she was going for. doesn’t mean it isn’t ugly as fuck, i’d just like to think there was some thought behind it ?

  2. Yeah, that's why I wasn't going to answer your baiting question but I guess you got me so pat yourself on the back.

Who said anything about clinical narcissism? LOL you bringing up the DSM like that is laughable, and if you actually understood the words you used you should know how problematic that manual is. Did you hear this from a podcast or read 2 case stories or sth

... what other kind of narcissism is there? colloquial? even then, it had to branch from somewhere lmao. feel free to assume what you wish about me

COLACNT after his failed read got refuted by two actual psychologists/psychology majorstenor.gif?itemid=5434931

    lol if only you knew

  3. Honey, I assume that you, as I am, probably are working/studying human health. Well, I am a psychologist and I can tell you that the DSM-V is pretty criticable, so yeah, don't use it if you don't know how it works. Btw, it's used as a tool, not as an exam. If you only using the DSM to give a diagnosis to someone, you're using it in the wrong way, and I do feel sorry for your patients bc you're looking at them as a lot of symptons, not as a individual who is suffering on its own way.

    :thumb:

the DSM is a mere guideline; there’s no rigidity in psychiatry whatsoever. it’s ironic because I agree that it shouldn’t be used as a strict diagnostic tool. my point was that @wittycatchphrase’s interpretation of the lyrics don’t even fall within those guidelines; not even loosely.

my advice? don’t be so rude and dramatic with such little information — judgement has no place in any field of medicine. it won’t get you very far in life either

  4. Crippling self-doubt and self-hatred. Pretending to be ok ("shaking my ass") to shake off that inner voice that demeans you and says you can't, and feeds on your perceived failures. Your self-loathing doesn't care about the damage it does, and you care too much but the degree is equal so they cancel each other out almost. The black color imagery contrasts the white yachts and pink dresses of the girls who don't have this "black narcissist" hovering above them.

Why do you think it's so literal to be about Azealia though? If you're asking for "receipts" of why it isn't, are you able to provide an example of when Lana shook her ass and Azealia decided Lana was ok again/ she wasn't gonna go burn down Lana's house? This is just like Art Deco when someone tried to tell me that art deco style is black and gold, and is supposed to be Azealia wearing a gold dress.

what you described is basically just depression and self destructive ruminations. none of that even remotely describes clinical narcissism though they might have basic (or tangential) elements of psychiatric or pathologic overlap. grab a DSM-V boo

and regarding the contrast with the pink dresses? ... umm you’re welcome to think that, but don’t for a moment believe that everyone else needs to be drawing that conclusion lmao

again, it’s referencing a real situation involving real (and genuinely narcissistic) people. must i really write more? i can a bit later if you’d like

saying it isnt about azealia is just using your brain

    oh. ok

  5. True though, G. Eazy is actually a killer, Harvey Weinstein was in the sky holding diamonds in a hot air balloon, she was asking her own Dad if she could put on a show for him, her line "out of the black and into the blue" is about stopping pegging her black boyfriend and instead fucking her new Blue Man group husband, and she wears actual roses instead of underwear

no, i’m serious — what does the lyric mean to you? I think once you attempt to write it out yourself you’ll start to feel the fractures in logic

she allowed to be literal lmao. maybe the issue is that you’re unable to distinguish what should (or shouldn’t) be taken as such

  6. You guys please stop saying you think "black narcissist" is referring to an actual person, you're making me think you're serious and it's making me weep for the future of this world. It's really not cute.

... can you remind me what you think it means again ... ?

the way she says “black narcissist” and specifically stating that she’s black gives racist vibes, but again, it literally isnt about AB, the line wasn’t racist, people are Reaching untill their arms rip off

you’re choosing idealism over realism. both have their place in music but one doesn’t exist without the other. in my opinion, these lyrics call for (and reference) a real situation, with real people. it doesn’t seem to call for an abstract interpretation. of course, none of us can know with total certainty. so to say with emphasis and authority that it ‘isnt’ about azealia is sort of inappropriate without any receipts

  7. even if it were about AB, since when is calling a black person a narcissist racist

its not. which is likely why it was deemed as simple artistic license by her management. stretching it, perhaps, but within the realms nonetheless

the fact that it was preceded by 'shaking my ass' is pretty significant -- there's no denying that, is there? she knew where our minds would go and she left it there for a reason

  8. So weird, some of yall just seem to WANT it to be about Azealia/Kanye. Like do y’all want Lana to be slammed on Twitter and the media?

Her managers might be dumb, but they’re not stupid. They would never allow Lana to release a song that referred to someone as black referencing their skin tone, especially not in 2019. If she was going to shade Azealia or Kanye then it woulld be done tastefully, at least.

not all art has to be tasteful. especially when the situation doesn't call for taste

i don't 'WANT' it to be about azealia or kanye. but its a pretty substantial reach to suggest otherwise. referring to your inner shadow as 'THAT black narcissist' is beyond ridiculous - in a poetic and semantic sense. there's very little logic to that interpretation

and its not at all similar to art deco. this situation isn't vague. and it isn't out of context, considering how the lyrics (and themes) tend to meander. it reads as more of a stream of consciousness, and its likely that azealia was in her mind. it isn't 'beneath' her if azealia were honestly in her thoughts during the process. to edit her out just because she's 'lana del rey' would be pretentious and inauthentic

  9. i don't see the connection, she was bitter that gaga "sold out" and made it instead of her

But now she's Lana Del Rey, you really think she's going to let AB get to her so much that she'll call her a black narcissist in a heartfelt piano ballad?

Black and blue have always been used in literature for purposes of symbolism and metaphor. It's comical that we've reached a point that we can't even write about an innocent color without sparking debate, and even more so when the subject matter has much to do with depression in itself. Do you take everything at face value?

there is a thing where writers come up with new metaphors so as to eschew overt platitudes in their writing, you know

lana has always been full of platitudes but it seems like she's making an effort to be more original as time passes

    lmao ‘innocent color’ ...

we’re not going to reach an agreement so what’s the point. neither of us will know the truth until (or if) she chooses to address it.

*Fucked My Way Up To The Top plays in the background* jk sis :hooker:

no, but really, it’s another example regarding her will (if not desire) to be controversial

  10. Which is not about AB. So where is your point?

what’s the difference? my point is she’s passionate about her personal affairs and petty enough to dedicate the entirety of a song to it. a single line (that would generate buzz) is hardly a stretch

the line could be read or interpreted in countless ways. the fact of the matter is, Lana is a fucking troll and she knows how people would see it. this discussion would probably have the bitch cackling

  11. ‘that narcissist’ could literally mean anyone in Hollywood. or on the planet. short of calling her by name, there’s really few other ways to identify her blatantly in the span of a short lyric. we all know she wants to be slightly cuntroversial here. there’s added weight and effect in the way it’s written

the lyrics are gorgeous. random musings (and abstractions) throughout her days of writing it and there’s nothing wrong with that. no story to search for but there’s not always a need for one either
