The new king of rap, from Long Beach LA. He's a Crips gang member and he's hardcore. I can't stop listening to his tunes, his flow is excellent and it's so refreshing, I love the contrasts between living in LA and the actual real life. He's going to play at Ohana Beach festival too, dreaming of a pic with Lana :) I know this forum isn't too keen on hip hop but please give him a shot, there's such a special ambiance to his songs! Also if anyone knows which song the beat of Lift Me Up reminds you to PLEASE tell me I've been obsessing over it for like two months and I can't find it. Plus he's cute, definitely my current favourite rapper

My favourites of him:

vince is awesome! i went to see him live while i was in san francisco in february :woot: he was great, albeit a little pissed off (duh, right?)

let me add my favorite, "blue suede":

i love hip hop, too :holla: aside from the amazing kendrick lamar, i can recommend another artist you might not be familiar with: mick jenkins (i also saw him live in new york, and he rocked)!

"jazz"

"P's & Q's"

this whole album is fantastic (i think lana would enjoy it):

he's been around for years and not too many people know him, though macklemore sure did :notamused:

check out "value village" from 2011:

@@annedauphine i don't mean to jack your vince thread, just thought i'd echo the praise and introduce you to someone i consider kind of kindred to vince ♥ (maybe you already knew him!?)

No worries on the contrary!! I love to discover new music, especially american hip hop, since I'm French I mostly know French artists and I feel like I'm really lacking a big part of the culture. Omg you're so lucky to have seen him, although I did heard that his lives were a bit chaotic. I think that a lot of Vince's songs have the potential to go really viral but it may be a bit avant-guarde? Anyway if I heard Lift Me Up live I would probably blow up this song is so powerful. Blue Suede isn't my favourite, but I absolutely love the video, same for Señorita, it's incredible.

That being said holy shit this Mick is fucking awesome. I love deep voices and his flow is so good and I love jazz inspired productions, I'm so happy you shared it thank you!! I'm going to listen to the whole album while working tomorrow it sounds so promising! My favs you showed are Jazz and Value Village I really need to listen to Kendrick I can't believe I haven't yet smh

wow! i'm so glad you liked mick! :) he is still pretty underground and definitely deserves more recognition

here's another older song of his i like:

oh, you are going to love kendrick! he is so incredible i don't even know where to start!!! if you enjoy jazz-inspired productions, then "to pimp a butterfly" is for you, though the previous album, "good kid, mA.A.d city", the one i discovered him with, is also indispensable ♥

just a couple of highlights:

"alright"

"swimming pools (drank)"

you might also enjoy his collaboration with flying lotus (a producer who is john coltrane's great nephew):

Omg lol I apologize I'm the worst at answering. Well to be honest my French hip hop taste is mostly... Trash... At least if you're a French real hip hop lover. I love a bit of everything there is, really.

I listen a lot of this gangsta rapper called Booba because he's hot af and he comes from the city I grew up in, Boulogne Billancourt, and I love gangsta rap and his flow is so rocky I love it. I actually stan him since I'm 15. I remember when his nudes leaked :oprah: His new stuff is absolutely unlistenable but 0.9 is one of my top 10 albums ever. Most people I show him too hate him.

I also listen to 1995 and most especially what one of the rapper of this band, Nekfeu, has done. His lyrics are very intelligent, he's like a ladykiller rockstar mixed with a popstar but 1000000% pure hip hop. He's playing on the same day than Lana at Vieilles Charrues, I'm praying I can see both. He's so hot too.

I love Orelsan so much too, he's like a mix between pop and hip hop I suppose? His lyrics are very relatable and I love his voice, he's funny and cute, I saw him live and it was one of the best acts I've ever had the pleasure to attend.

L'Animal isn't very well known, he's white too, his flow is just so good even though his lyrics are weaker, he has an angel face but his voice is so dirty and angry.

I saw Klub Des Loosers live with my old best friend, his lyrics are poetry but he's unlistenable if you're not French lol, he wears a mask and his beats are very jazzy and his lyrics are like super dark.

DF spits bars like he was paid for it but he got his album for free, slay. Hocus Pocus is excellent, he has a super oldschool flow and voice, he's very respected as a lyricist.

Nessbeal is gangsta rap, his lyrics are trash but his beats give me the strength to blow up the world.

Odezenne is incredible, poetry lyrics, oldschool meats new school beats.

Stupeflip is a crazy ass band of three crazy ass rappers with characters and insane melodies.

These are the ones I listen to on the regular but again I really have a bit of everything in store. I prefer French hip hop to American hip hop because I love the technicality and I always found that American hip hop was more """mellow""" sonically because French is very harsh and I dig it. Basically here's a list of a few of my favourites songs from each :) Be careful that's a shitload of songs
