SissyReed Posted November 28, 2016 Posted November 28, 2016 Since everyone talking about Lana x Portishead and there's no thread for them... Portishead are an English band formed in 1991 in Bristol. They are named after the nearby town of the same name, eight miles west of Bristol, along the coast. Portishead consists of Geoff Barrow, Beth Gibbons and Adrian Utley, while sometimes citing a fourth member, Dave McDonald, an engineer on their first records Their debut album, Dummy, was met with critical acclaim in 1994. Two other studio albums were issued: Portishead in 1997 and Third in 2008. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4qQyUi4zfDs https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TmDkzVvherk tbh I have never listened to "Third" is it any good? 6 Quote

Thunder Revenant Posted November 28, 2016 Posted November 28, 2016 Happy we finally have a thread for them! I've been a very big fan since I've heard Sour Times in a 2012 TV series. My favourite album is probably "Portishead", even though Dummy is perfect aswell. It took me some time to get into Third but now I'm in love with it aswell! What are you guys favourite songs?Mine are Over, Wandering Star, Elysium and Numb. 0 Quote Just do it. Just do it - don't wait!
SissyReed Posted November 28, 2016 Author Posted November 28, 2016 I love "It's a Fire" - my love for them started when my dad showed me this songI also love "Roads", "Glory Box", "Sour Times" - my favesbut I love all their songs, I think their records should be listened as whole 1 Quote
Hundred Dollar Bill Posted November 28, 2016 Posted November 28, 2016 tbh I have never listened to "Third" is it any good? WHAAAAT???? incredibly beautiful eerie, gorgeous epic, terrifying??? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z7RknLL4WkU 3 Quote
longtimeman Posted November 28, 2016 Posted November 28, 2016 In the mid 90's, it seemed that every movie with a sex/seduction scene had to have Glory Box playing. Dummy was one of the rare records that was loved by music snobs as well as finding itself everywhere in popular media - Moby's Play is the only other one that I can think of at the moment. 3 Quote
Thunder Revenant Posted November 28, 2016 Posted November 28, 2016 I think Hunter and Thread are the best songs on Third 0 Quote Just do it. Just do it - don't wait!

wittycatchphrase Posted November 29, 2016 Posted November 29, 2016 Love me some Portishead. Roads makes me weep, Glory Box is a classic, and I love singing along to Half Day Closing. The live Roseland NYC album is bomb, except for the couple seconds in the beginning of Glory Box when the strings are SO OFF, makes me wince every time. I can't remember the album Third, when I listened to it I had smoked salvia so I think it freaked me out haha. 0 Quote
Gecko Posted November 29, 2016 Posted November 29, 2016 Portishead are one of my fav trip-hop band. Beth Gibbons has an amazing voice! I love this genre... Trip-Hop is a drug. Glory Box. ♥ 0 Quote

Yeah, I LOVE the live CD: Their performance of Cowboys and Over are even more intense than the studio version. I wish more artists would release live records as decent as this one. The only thing I dislike is that they did not put the live versions of Elysium and Numb on it. (this one is not from Roseland but it's PERFECT!) 0 Quote Just do it. Just do it - don't wait!
CrazySister Posted December 4, 2016 Posted December 4, 2016 I can't believe I already had heard Machine Gun! I heard in a tv show, but I ignored at the time and just listened after some time, while clicking in aleatory videos of the soundtrack on youtube! I liked better when I heard separately, but I forgot to download it! 0 Quote
