The Right Person Will Stay - Pre-Release Thread (OUT: May 21st, 2025)
TrashMagiq replied to Elle's topic in New Releases
I just want a Lana Del Rey album, not a Joni Mitchell/Patsy Cline/Joan Baez/whoever-else-she's-emulating album. It does not feel authentic, even though critics would probs view it as her most authentic work yet. And when I say that I don't mean that I want BTD/UV 2.0 or whatever. I actually think Ocean Blvd felt very authentic to her artistry and had what parts of Blue Banisters and COCC lacked. -

I know we haven't heard much of whatever she's planning to put out but based on what we do know this "Lasso" / "The Right Person Will Stay" henry come on stuff was giving snoozefest and I hope it IS scrapped and she's working on music that"ll actually stand out in her discography and not watered down acoustic bullshit. Give us some edge, give us some storytelling, give us Zodiac tease SCREAMING FOR ME BABYYY hop in that studio with Mike Dean and put ur pussy in it a little. We wan't more of A&W, not more of Wild at Heart. Give us something excitingggg have an impact. -
I'm also hearing a bit of taint mcrae and gracie abrahams!

The Killah hate is crazy it feels like such an integral part of the album to me
-
The “You’re turning green from the adrenalàne” in Garden of Eden scratches my brain the same way SCREAMING FOR ME BABYYY does
-
Killah's the pussy of the album. Makes me wanna suck some cock! Yes gawd.

Out of all the songs to make a bonus track, Can't Stop The High was a terrible choice omg this should've been on the standard edition. An album highlight. It makes the album feel more varied, and makes Perfect Celebrity feel less random. Don't Call Tonight should've been a bonus track tbh.
-
Kill For Love being a full on Michael Jackson tribute lmao. I don't mind too much tho it's kinda sounding like one of the best songs on the album actually

Disease, Abracadabra and Garden of Eden are def my favs off the album. They are so uniquely her, while the rest of the album kinda sounds like her emulating other artists (Bowie, Michael Jackson, Prince, etc.). Even though I like the album, I'm not gonna lie and say I didn't wish the rest of the album was more in the vein of the first 4 songs, but I do really enjoy the rest of the album. I don't think the whole "Mayhem is a varied album with a bunch of different sounds" description is that accurate tbh, I actually wish it had MORE variation. It's mostly just the first 4 songs being different with the rest of the album having a very clear theme/sound with similar influences. It feels like you're listening to an entirely separate cohesive body of work from Vanish Into You onwards, which is my only problem with this album. The tracklist needs more balance. I hope the 2 bonus tracks will help balance out the tracklist a little bit more. From the way she described "Can't Stop The High" it seems like it will, I just hope "Kill For Love" will too and isn't another 70s/80s throwback moment.

I get why people are disappointed on their initial listens considering most of this album's very 70s/80s inspired and not the type of dark industrial pop people were expecting based on Disease and Abracadabra, but I just listened through for the first time and I really loved it. I think opinions will shift more positively once this album settles for people and they let go of the expectations they had that this was gonna be The Fame Monster 2.0

How Bad Do U Want Me sounding like a 1989 Taylor Swift song ijbol

I was thinking about this the other day and Marina and Katy's career trajectories are very similar tbh. TFJ/One Of The Boys: "Edgier" debut album, their best work (imo) with a lot of personality Electra Heart/Teenage Dream: Fan favorite commercial pop album. Their most successful. Their peak. FROOT/PRISM: Not as good as the last 2 but fans still love it. Both album titles are stylised in upper case too lol. L+F/Witness: Original FLOP era. The moment many turned on them. Katy got rid of the black hair and Marina got rid of The Diamonds. ADIAML/Smile: Second FLOP era but at least the album has 2 good songs that are discography highlights (Ancient Dreams + Venus Fly Trap / Never Really Over + Harleys in Hawaii) Butterfly's her Woman's World so perhaps M6 will be her 143 (Terrible embarrassing corny album that absolutely misses the mark and will make fans lose the hope they still had that one day she'll get back on track again and the last 2 albums were just little missteps.)

Just watched the Butterfly video. I don't get the praise. It's pretty but it has absolutely no concept and nothing really happens in it.

As I got older and wiser (22) something clicked in my brain and The Fame became my 2nd fav Gaga album right behind The Fame Monster. I’ve been listening to it so much lately, she really came out the gate swinging and 17+ years later she’s Still doing it. This legend…

Might be controversial but Mariners Apartment Complex… I did Not like that song at first. It ended up growing on me but if I were to rank the NFR songs she’d still be near the bottom tbh… I was so relieved when she dropped Venice Bitch a few days later and it ended up being one of her best songs of all time.
