  1. Still wondering how BoZ feels about this album :ma:

Not a bad album, but this is, to me, her Solar Power: the summer vibes are bit off, it never compares to the album prior and it should have been an EP.

i really want to know the insider tea about all of this cause there is something FISHY about this whole album AND rollout

It’s a weird rollout indeed. Singles Very spaced-out, a short album in the end…

    what. tell me more

Saw an insider account mention it yesterday. I think there is some sort of countdown on her website?
one of the deluxe track would be a Katy Perry collab according to them

don’t know how reliable this info is tbh, but a deluxe is surely on the way.

  5. I wonder how BoZ feels about this album :ma:

not a bad album, cute summer fling kinda of vibes, but clearly not FN level of pop genius.

we already knew Kevin Parker’s involvement would not be super proéminent in the sound of the sound based on the singles, and the rest of the album confirms it. Which is a shame because many tracks could have had an outro that would have elevated them and have had Kevin’s signature.
but the biggest flaw of this album might be that out of 11 tracks, two feel unnecessary. I mean come on!

  6. I think people here forget how manic we become when she officially announces an album… and it’s coming out in like 5-6 months :true::tsk:

Cigarettes After Sex got their preorder and first single out in February for a July 12

release; we got the second single 10 days ago. Although both singles are amazing, even though this spring is packed with major releases, I can’t help but feel CAS’s pre-release is dragging on… Same would happen with Lana.

i mean, OB era, which was one of the shortest pre-release eras ever: we pressed Kintsugi and BoZ for every crumble of detail and as far as I can tell, neither of them is anywhere in sight for info this time around, which would make a very dry pre-release era…

My wish is for something like Billie did but with singles: announcement and preorder for a short pre-release, one single or two before the album, 2-3 months max.

  7. Many of her live appearances or live performances don’t normally « stick with me » or are as memorable as they are for many of you (so sorry :bebe: I might be a robot hahaha). But this one performance of Unchained Melody, the energy from the photos, her look, I mean
:defeated: She looked like she’s been brought back from the 60s, very June Carter. This might be the first « country » glimpse that I’m really excited about (I never cared for her country fests performances or attendance, reminds me too much of my small town childhood festivals :tsk:, but that one felt really special)

It's so funny and even cool how people really differently translate the term "bop". For me, Lana has released bops in each of her albums. Even in COTCC, Banisters and OB. Although, I do think that maybe her last album that had most "bop" songs was NFR (for example Doin Time, FIILY, Cinnamon Girl, Venice) but that doesn't mean that other following albums didn't have at least one "bop"/upbeat/beatsy track. Who doesn't bop to Peppers or Tulsa Jesus Freak or Black Bathing Suit? :oprah6: To be honest, different opinions are what makes the music most intriguing sometimes :true:

To me, a « Lana bop » is a song that could get radio airplay, with some chill beats, or that could please her fans because it contains somewhat some of the « old Lana ». Agree with you that Peppers is a bop, TJF is kinda one (sure is underrated with the GP), but to me, the « bop » (very loosely here) on BB might be Dealer: not that it’s a light song, but the lyrics are very UV.
Say Yes to Heaven is a nice pop song and bop-ish too.

But my fave Lana bops are her summery tracks with a memorable melody and we need one of those

Gurrl, I'm totally with you. I know it won't happen. Lust for Life was her last commercial effort for sure.

But we JUST NEED ONE BOP. Just one. One upbeat single ala Summertime Sadness, Doin' Time or High By the Beach to hear on the radio or listen at the gym. Like, country with beats.

And no, this is not me mistaking Lana for another type of artist, like Sportscruiser keeps accusing me. I'm her biggest fan, and I don't expect her to change. But 3 albums in a row without a hit just isn't good for her career. Chemtrails, BB and OB haven't had a single entry on Billboard 100.

Meanwhile, 8+ tracks off of Cowboy Carter made it onto that list instantly, 6 of which weren't even singles (Buckin, Bodyguard, Protector, Blackbird, American Requiem, Hands II Heaven). All 3 of Dua Lipa's new singles made it onto the list at numbers 11, 20 and whatever.

And, yes, I know Lana doesn't need Billboard, and she's in her own lane, and her true fans don't care. But she's had 15 songs on that list, and each album up until Chemtrails had a bop or a big ballad. So, she CAN do it, and she should. If for no other reason, then to continue to be part of pop culture, get more Grammy attention, etc. It's just good for her.

Also, after 5 years, it's time for Jack to produce her first solo hit for her. He's done it for Taylor repeatedly, so I don't get why he can't cook up something more commercially minded for Lana.

She needs another Doin’ Time :true:

I have faith in Jack if he's on production again he actually proved a lot of the Jack haters wrong with Ocean Blvd

I have no problem with Jack working with Lana so far. They do bring another vibe to the songs they’re doing together that is unmatched with his other girlies. NFR, Violet and OB have incredible gems (OB had the genius concept of having piano samples - which aren’t always Jack’s best suite IMO - and build production around it, which made the tracks so rich and complex). I still love Chemtrails even if some songs do sound like a couple of Lorde tracks…
So, as long as Lana’s ideas aren’t anything like what the other girlies are doing, I’m on board with Jack being a producer.

Why is everyone acting like this is a jack only record? YES he’s involved, but the first song we’ve been teased with isn’t a Jack song.

personally I think it’s a bit silly to hope for a super boppy album when her last ‘bop’ album was LFL which came out almost 7 years ago. I want a bop album as much as the next person but it just doesn’t seem realistic

Yeah, it can’t be a Jack-only album: Taylor got him working 24-7 on all of her albums til his last fucking breath, no matter how uninspiring the songs may sound like :ma:

I WAS ON TWITTER & READ SOMETHING VULGAR INVOLVING A MIRROR - CAME HERE TO SEE IF IT WAS REAL…

    :thumb3:

It was, it’s from her Rolling Stone magazine cover story.
She doesn’t hold anything back in this interview.
more interesting to me though: Skinny is What Was I Made For’s little sister apparently and Rolling Stone calls her new album the best yet she put out 👀

It's delusional to think we're even getting a glimpse of the era this early in the year, but I'm loving the aesthetic she's been teasing... I was genuinely afraid this was going to be another basic-looking era like Chemtrails, with the obvious country references, girl in the countryside with a flannel shirt... The gothic western look is amazing and I hope hope hope it reflects the music.

For once, I am in no hurry for the era to start this early :true: Many of my favourite artists are releasing up to July, and I want Lasso to be a bigger era, so the first songs of it need to be released at a time when they’ll be able to shine (and at a time I’ll be able to enjoy them).

Pitchfork gave two Scores for the Album.

    TTPD - 6.7

The Anthology 6.0 (they are crazy. It deserved at least 8)

TTPD (anthology or not) is really not my fave from her and although I agree with many points made by them, I would have given it 7.5. Its a bit of a low score.

Ok in get free she says “out of the black into the blue” like it’s a positive thing. Like she’s becoming happier. But during Coachella she literally goes from blue to black in outfit changes meaning a return to her darker mindset. The intro song (My My, Hey Hey-Neil Diamond) also says “out of the blue into the black” and talks about basically going hard instead of fizzling out. The hologram cage interlude talked about women being mothers or virgins and how those are the only acceptable choices in society. But then goes on to talk about sensuality and creativity and not being caged by just the two choices of virgin or mother. She’s mused a lot about motherhood especially in Ocean Blvd and I think this could all point to her giving up having kids and just focusing on her career, her art. Also the ending where she’s carried out felt like a funeral instead of the usual psych ward vibe, then she’s almost reborn into a new era that is just for her. Of course this could all just me being tired af and unhinged.

Someone else that’s better an analyzing this stuff chime in! Lol

I really like this interpretation. Not that she she necessarily has a clear vision of things to come for her next albums, but there is a sorta pattern so far, in her discography: she has two major landmarks, two albums that defined the American culture or read that said culture : Born to Die and Norman Fucking Rockwell. Norman was preceded by the «transition album », an album for her troubled times. Ocean Blvd is also a transition album, one that helped her grieve. See where I’m going with this? Lasso could be her third Best American Record. :dua:

  16. Coachella wasn’t the place to officially launch the era. Coachella was Coachella and not some stepping stone to an album  :true: We’re still too far from the supposed September release (if it’s not postponed). Sometimes this forum forgets how patient we become when an era officially begins :omfg2::brigitte: . She can delay the first single to have a shorter pre-release of three or four months.
as for Henry and her announcement at that industry event, some of us mentioned it was probably a strategic move, so she wouldn’t look as a Beyoncé copycat or of any other artist going country if she had said nothing but released a country album in the fall.

I'll give it a second chance and listen to the b-side... I love folklore and evermore, so maybe I'll find a song on this album that I like. :adele:

The Manuscript is my fave on that part of the album. It’s really heartbreaking
