I don’t think a digital only release at first is going to happen, since she is the queen of selling vinyls (COCC is the best example). But… maybe Interscope could reconsider a digital release and preorder for vinyls for two reasons: 1- she did amazing this summer, with her streaming numbers, while doing nothing. Maybe it could give her some « leverage ». 2- BB would have been number 2 or 3 on the Billboard 100 if there hadn’t been lots of messes with distribution (CD sent early that didn’t count for week 1, delays in vinyls did the same - even if it was well planed by her company; the vinyl industry cannot keep up with demand). Plus a digital release could help with leaks. And honestly, the coveted number 1 spot is a bit stupid right now, with her: look at NFR, which debuted at number 3; I think it went to number 1 three weeks after release and it is still her second most successful album (and will become her second 2 Billion streams album on Spotify).

Love this! mine: Months before release: couldn’t care less for an album because I am still very much vibing to her latest release. If there is a song title dropped in an interview: cool, but I won’t be too excited, especially if it’s been revealed the days following her latest release. Bonus for caring even less: when a timeframe has been given by her that won’t come through. First real clue of an actual album / lead coming (could be a snippet, an interview or a reliable insider posting): losing my shit, can’t do anything else for that day, obsessively posting here, expecting news any second. days after that: realizing I should calm down and that my whole life shouldn’t revolve around her. Lead single dropped: strangely calm and happy. If the single is good: I want more two days after. If it’s VB level: I can wait for the album a bit longer. Posting on LB whenever a thought pops into my head. First listen or release day: usually calm, album in repeat, thinking if the album is « in sync » with my own life. Happy, waiting for her official post or MV or whatever.

Count on LB to overanalyze a 10-sec snippet that was recorded from a phone, through a sound system in studio at least it’s better than Chuck’s story where Bartender was playing faintly in the background and we couldn’t hear a damn thing because she was talking (people were hearing « I get down and I pray » instead of « when at last, the day is done, I grab my keys », it’s how bad and low fi it was )

I’m wondering if I should or shouldn’t put my input / thoughts on piano again… I get the piano only trope might have been a tad too much after each of her album had at least one or a couple. i think she’ll add other prod to the piano melody, which is often the core of the song. the best way to enter a new Lana era is to let go of expectations. I was let a bit let down at first by COCC because of my expectations / what I wanted it to sound like. BB was already « better » on first listen because I had less expectations (or I had let them go after the three singles). even back in May/ June, I wanted « sexy summer escapism with retro vibes » from her and, well, her W interview wasn’t hinting at that, so Beyoncé and Broken Bells satisfied my hunger with what I wanted. Anyways, I’m just curious for this record and can’t wait to hear what it sounds like, but if any jazz undertones are there / old Hollywood vibes, I’ll probably be sold.

Nan, she also teased Arcadia weeks before release with a snippet. But the snippet game was better with the BB album. « Automatic » writing / singing (or meditative writing or something) jon Batiste could this album be her jazziest yet?!?

I actually thought the wigs were good (or not that bad) this time around, as in « it’s not just one wig for every Targaryen male in the whole GoT series ». Daemon’s reminded of Lord of the Rings’s. The women have better wigs though (I really like Rhaenys’s).

I think it depends on the recording schedule, maybe?!? A bunch of tracks could get mastered together if she’s not recording the album all together?! The lead single is always mastered before the whole album is done mixing.

House of the Dragon is off to a good start. My only « problem » is the opening sequence. I don’t know if there is something else that is planned for the next episodes other than the Targaryen crest. GoT opening sequence was epic from the start and I kinda miss that. the score, however, is as brilliant as GoT (thanks to Ramin Djawadi).

I get the feeling thank God she records all the time. NFR’s pre-release was a long stretch, 2016 also, but it’s honestly not that long when we think of it.

I saw that too. I really don’t think the swan was that thought out. If true, that this post is her « swan song » on the HM account, she’ll reopen her LDR main one to promote music. But I really doubt it’s the case (it would mean that she’d have to stop posting whatever she feels like before officially beginning the era, and we’re still in limbo with that. She’ll probably have a friend’s birthday to post or some « Venus aligning with Jupiter on Friday » kinda post). Plus i really think LDR9 is another « vanity project » like HM was (not saying it’s a sister album in terms of prod, but it feels like it’s an album she made for herself), so promo on the HM account would make sense…

It’s always a bit tricky with her latest MV. Most of the time, not much is happening (not that it should)… sometimes, it works perfectly : Love, The greatest + FIILY, BB, hope. Sometimes, it works partially : White Mustang (it should have been kept for TNBAR), LFL, triple NFR MV, Arcadia. And there are the masterpieces : COCC and DT (both have strong stories though). and the duds : MAC and VB (which is a shame because they both are among the best songs she ever did). there is also LMlYLAW that I consider a trailer rather than a proper MV

Yeah, I agree. I don’t know what could have worked though for that song… I like the idea but maybe a « second part » was needed 🤷🏼 WD is such a long song for that thin concept.

I agree pretty much with everything you said. Maybe not the numbers of tracks (the albums feel kinda bloated when there are more than 12-13 tracks and it kinda separates the album in two parts, losing a bit of its cohesion), but any song that could be over 6 min would be a serve (this is what I miss the most from her recent albums: there aren’t that many tracks over 5 minutes. I wouldn’t want her to have long tracks for the sake of it if they don’t go anywhere, anything that builds up and creates a sorta landscape would be lovely). as for MV and visuals, I see them as bonuses for an album. They are important for marketing and creating buzz, in a way, but I don’t really care that much about them. Sure, when she releases a Rich Lee video or a COCC type of perfection, I’m in awe. But I don’t watch her MV as much as I used to, to be honest.

Her numbers are insane… and she didn’t release anything new. And it’s not a « small summer » either for female releases (Beyoncé, for example). I bet Interscope doesn’t understand it either. but to be fair, it’s BTD, UV and NFR that have the biggest share of the (streaming) cake (I’m curious to see how NFR will do in the next weeks: this album is just magic at the end of summer). These three albums all have big production behind them. So, if the lead for LDR9 is a big prod single, her numbers could remain insane and create lots of buzz for LDR9 (nobody thought of it, but maybe it’s another « HM situation », where Interscope wants a big lead single for the album, explaining the « near completion » post of Ben; if so, I expect the single to be out in the next weeks). whatever she decides to release, I’m here for it. Although I wanted a « sexy summery escape with alternative / vintage Melodies » from her back in May or June, I got satisfied with Beyoncé’s and the new singles of Broken Bells (for the hints of trippy prod). And I also had many good moments with COCC, BB and Violet as well.

I’m honestly thinking it could be 50-50 (like, well, everything people posted so far, including Rob. Ben’s posts and the W mag interview are the only certitudes this far). Could be about her, maybe not. Like you said, he is a successful photographer and doesn’t need Lana to be. I love a good Neil cover or photoshoot, but Chuck also gave us very iconic covers (HBTB single cover, NFR). And also, even DNC, we’re not sure what it stands for…
