  1. The thing is Lana uses better wordplay and has a better way of writing generally

“The night keep carelessly dropping the keys on my nights off”

“life rocked me, ultra softly, like the heavy medal that you wear”

“hello heaven, you are a tunnel lined with yellow lights on a dark night”

“I’m your national anthem, boy put your hands up, give me a standing ovation”

“Boy you’re so dope, your love is deadly”

Also, one of my favorite lines from BTW “Let’s go get high, the road is long” so she’s talking heights and lengths, which in the literal sense, let’s go smoke and get stoned or whatever, and the destination seems far, but shes metaphorically talking about heights and lengths theyll go which gives that song even more meaning when you listen to it again.

    those are such iconic lyrics

i agree that both have generally different writing styles, taylor relies heavily on details (thanks to her country roots) and lana is more conceptual..but some people here make it seem like taylor's some incompetent rookie copying lana's biblical verses..and that's the issue

  2. Everyone has cringe lyrics

"HeY KiDS, SPelLinG iS FUn!" :scoff:

But it is true, some Lana's lyrics tend to be vague/make you wonder what she's actually saying. Taylor's are mostly direct, you don't need to really think on what they mean

everyone has cringe lyrics but does miss lanz have a "you can plan for a change in weather and time but I never planned on you changing your mind"  :um2:

  3. Lana tends to reference a lot, makes her own little play on words, and has very complex lines that makes you wonder what she's truly trying to say.

sing it for my babies on the tour life...you're so ghetto...makes me wanna party...piiiink flamingoOOoooOs always fascinated me...it hurts to love you but i still love you...i just wanna dance with you (this is in every song basically)...it all seems stranger than a stranger... :um2:

we all love and appreciate lana's art but let's not be delulu

  4. this year sucked in so many ways and music is not one of them; Future Nostalgia, After Hours, Miss Anthropocene, Sawayama...Folklore, COCC and possibly Lorde3. maybe we won.

  5. Hoping we get references to past song titles / lyrics, i like how some songs tie-in with one another.

as long as she doesn't overdo it..

changing like the weather, oooh, that's so like youuuuuu

cause this is crazy loooooove, i'll catch you on the flipsiiiide

i'll throw a party all night loooong

    in my party dreeess

i just wanna party with youuuuu

    :awkney:

it's nice to reference your past work every now and then but we want new material

  6. k-12 just comes off as someone who just discovered twitter and then tried to write a whole movie making surface level observations about literally every social issue ever

The lyrics that are supposed to bring awareness to these social issues in a clever way just come off as superficial and in-your-face, unlike the ones in cry baby. A good example would be Tag, you're it with child kidnapping and Orange Juice with bulimia.

  7. just wondering- do people think NFR has aged so fast because of the actual music becoming a little dated in terms of sound, or because of the way streaming has made it so we constantly get bored of music that's just been released and want more? i feel like before the streaming era (2016 and earlier?) music lasted so much longer that we didn't complain about needing more from an artist that released an album just 6 months prior, we were more patient. maybe it's because it's easier to just upload music to spotify now, especially as there's an abundance of indie artists who don't need to go through the whole label process.

It's definitely something to do with the actual music rather than the shift to digital, for me at least. I guess it's the simplicity of the NFR sound that made me grow tired of it very quickly, unlike albums with complex instrumentation and layerings such as UV. This is also the reason why Venice Bitch is immune to ageing.
