Spoiler"They say there's irony in the music, it's a tragedy, I / See nothing greek in it"
all y'all arguing about her "regrettably white woman" line need to listen to this again
Trust her intentions

I really love this album, and I really love COCC— but I think it's interesting that they're two separate releases, and in any other normal year (without the pandemic) I think they would've been combined as one with a sliced up tracklist. It's sorta fun to imagine what that would look like, so here's my version of it (which I think the critics would've gone apeshit for tbh):
1. Text Book
2. White Dress
3. Blue Banisters
4. Wild at Heart
5. Arcadia
6. Black Bathing Suit
7. If You Lie Down With Me
8. Violets for Roses
9. Tulsa Jesus Freak
10. Dark But Just A Game
11. Dealer
12. Thunder
13. Wildflower Wildfire
14. Dance til We Die
15. Sweet Carolina

I would also really love to hear IYLDWM, but something tells me she probably wouldn't do any of the older stuff/stuff she wrote pre-2015 (NOTG, CB, LL). Hopefully IYLDWM could be different as it didn't leak?

she's intentionally using "mask" for both of its meanings; the song is about how she had to mask herself when she was with a man. so it takes on a metaphorical meaning for me that separates it from something like the BLM reference. it's actually a more beautiful lyric if you just choose to think about it that way

Just now, AllNight said:SpoilerI think there are too; the lead vocal is the same one but I think she went in a few places and layered some new vocals in. I thought I heard it on Living Legend too but maybe I'm wrong lol

SpoilerGod the raspy vocals on Living Legend are career-best. And I noticed she touched up some of the transitions— I actually thought I heard new vocals on there layered in.

With how weird gen Z is, I could honestly see Dealer going viral on Tiktok, especially with those people who do the cringey acting videos

you win the thread

SpoilerBlack Bathing Suit is probably one of her weirdest songs ever. It makes sense why she chose the singles she did now— they were sort of odd melodically/structurally too; but a little bit easier to understand on first listen and so they proved great introductions to the album. Black Bathing Suit just takes that musical style and goes even further. It's a fucking insane song. Reminds me of Joni Mitchell's writing. And the best part is, I know its complexity means it will only get better with time

Why are people coming into this thread just to say “oooh, I have the album” just to hold it over people’s heads and not leak it ?? Like girl….get a hobby….you are not a commodity, the music is what people want
Anybody who actually had it would just leak it, the rest are just desperate for attention

She seems to be opening her mouth more in the Bridge snippet leak?
Also the JUST DO IT by the backing vocalists is missing omg...they were perfect
The vocal stems are literally the exact same. They might be mixed or mastered differently in the final version, but it’s the same vocal take. Trust me it’s ingrained into my brain
SpoilerAnd as for the “just do it….” it’s still there too LMAO but they DID re-record that. I actually prefer the new version lmao; more subtle and doesn’t feel like she’s just using gospel singers as her “backup”
-
5 minutes ago, CinnamonGay said:This is how the vocals on the bridge were in the original track too; it’s an intentional vocal choice. She’s kinda raspy and out of breath. It’s meant to be bluesy and stylistic

Cried like a baby to that version of Th*nder….it’s surprisingly the first time that the incoming BB release has actually felt real to me, and the new mix of the song is so perfect
SpoilerThat stripped back first chorus…..The weird string accents….What a track

I feel like I remember her mentioning she liked Lana's music years ago during her 25 album cycle. I think she's actually a fan tbh

Genius says the former, but I hear the latter, and it honestly makes a lot more sense to me. If the song is about Sean and the end of that relationship, which it seems like it is, that line makes it sound like in her eyes he'd avoided being damaged by "fame" and L.A. unlike the other people she knew. Do we have any official lyrics?
“You touched the detriment most of the friends I knew already had.” Def think it’s “touch;” not “dodge.”
To me, this implies that a lot of life’s personal meaning for Lana has been found through her friendships. Her issues with her mother and father (the detriment) have been somewhat patched up by strong platonic sisterhoods (like the ones she sings about on BB). But she’s never had a ROMANTIC encounter touch this part of her soul; and so she’s saying this man (who I’m assuming is Sean) helped her “right” some of the wrongs of both her own past AND symbolically her father’s— hence the “let’s rewrite history” lyric.
“Detriment” means a state of harm due to lack of necessities. She had a lack of strong parental figures. Her sisterhoods helped to patch up the issues with her mom— but the lack of a strong father figure is what Sean “touched upon”

1 hour ago, ChaoticLipster said:I still don’t know what’s she’s saying ‘my lips like the falicks of bay veiw’ ???
It’s probably life is beautiful
“My hips, San Gabriel all day; // My lips, like the fire licks the bay, if you // think that you know yourself, you can come over // Lay your hands on me like you’re a land rover “
pretty sure it’s this; the “view” you’re hearing is actually the “if you” of the next line. Beautiful use of enjambment
