More like May, June, July, August - nothing happens September - Lana teases new single and drops it, and we realize the album is postponed October, November, December, January - we get another single or two, and a bunch of snippets February/March - Album is released May - We get one home-made music video made by Chuck
-
please no. such a boring song. also yet another cover.
-
it's also a cop-out. Like, we know you can make sad minimalist songs with just you and the piano, gurl. Give us at least another "Love" if you can't put together a "Doin' Time"
-
for sure. In the two days at coachella, she played, what, jimmy, summertime, doin' time and west coast. Like, 4 bops in a 15 track setlist. She's over making bops, and she's over singing them. She seems to be firmly in her "sad girl" era. still, i'm hoping she and jack will have one day in the studio where they're NOT feeling miserable and are just fucking around like when they did Jimmy and, magically, a bop will materialize. If it doesn't, and it's another collection of Sweets, I'll be fucking livid.

YES! Doin' Time National Anthem Off to the Races Florida Kilos Summertime Sadness Cola Diet Mountain Dew Hollywood Radio Burning Desire You Can Be the Boss High by the Beach West Coast Serial Killer Don't Call Me Angel Summer Bummer Hundred Dollar Bill Ridin' Feat. ASAP Rocky This is What Makes Us Girls The list is even longer. I wish people on here wouldn't keep saying "Oh, you want Lana to be a different artist" when she has produced a large number of summer BOPS. Obviously, she can do that. Just not with Jack apparently (he hasn't produced any of the above)
-
If we look at definitions of the word "bop", it implies a rapid tempo. What song on Chemtrails has a rapid tempo, in your opinion? Or BB? Do you really think Tulsa, or BBS or Venice Bitch have a rapid tempo?
-
Or, at least, Ride. A big song with a great melody that could get radio play. No more low-key ballads as singles with minimalist production, like Blue Banisters, Arcadia, Wildflower, White Dress, Candy Necklace, The Grants, etc. It's literally been 5 years of those. (Doin' Time came out in 2019!) But knowing Lana, she'll drop Henry, Come on as the first single.
-
YES! A bit of rap and a bit of electronica (like Cowboy Carter) would be iconic.
-
Gurrl, I'm totally with you. I know it won't happen. Lust for Life was her last commercial effort for sure. But we JUST NEED ONE BOP. Just one. One upbeat single ala Summertime Sadness, Doin' Time or High By the Beach to hear on the radio or listen at the gym. Like, country with beats. And no, this is not me mistaking Lana for another type of artist, like Sportscruiser keeps accusing me. I'm her biggest fan, and I don't expect her to change. But 3 albums in a row without a hit just isn't good for her career. Chemtrails, BB and OB haven't had a single entry on Billboard 100. Meanwhile, 8+ tracks off of Cowboy Carter made it onto that list instantly, 6 of which weren't even singles (Buckin, Bodyguard, Protector, Blackbird, American Requiem, Hands II Heaven). All 3 of Dua Lipa's new singles made it onto the list at numbers 11, 20 and whatever. And, yes, I know Lana doesn't need Billboard, and she's in her own lane, and her true fans don't care. But she's had 15 songs on that list, and each album up until Chemtrails had a bop or a big ballad. So, she CAN do it, and she should. If for no other reason, then to continue to be part of pop culture, get more Grammy attention, etc. It's just good for her. Also, after 5 years, it's time for Jack to produce her first solo hit for her. He's done it for Taylor repeatedly, so I don't get why he can't cook up something more commercially minded for Lana.
-
And Venice Bitch, And Mariner's And Norman And Ocean Boulevard And Wild at Heart And White Dress. The list goes on and on. That being said, I do think she should mix it up with another producer, and I hope Luke L. will bring that breath of fresh air. Not a fan of Gabe Simon, Zach Davies, Drew Erickson and others from her Blue Banisters area. They've produced some of the weakest tracks in her career (Summertime Gershwin, Country Roads, etc.).

taylor makes such commercial music, even with jack, all the lana inspo, and titles like "the tortured poets dept." Fortnight and a few other tracks aren't bad, but all her songs are starting to sound the same or, at least, have the same predicable melody. heard a lyric on her record that goes "you fell asleep like a tattooed golden retriever." That doesn't even make sense. She wishes she could write like lana. That said, she works hard and she's a smart business woman, so i don't mind her. And i love that she's got lana's back. It's super cool that lana is so close with the most successful female singer on the planet.
-
I just hope it's not boring country. What Beyonce did with CC was reinvigorate the genre, mix it up, and successfully create both bangers and ballads that resonate and deserve radio play. If we get another Chemtrails - a slow, straight-up genre record with no hits and nothing new brought to the genre, then I would think of it as a disappointment.
-
I'd love it if there a few collabs (aside from the guaranteed one(s) with Nicky). Taylor, Orville Peck, Miley Father John Misty (again), and maybe even some rappers/RBN artists to spice it up (Quavo, ASAP Rocky, The Weeknd). I wouldn't mind an all-Lana record. I'm just worried we'll end up with Chemtrails 2 if it all ends up being slow country with no bops, collabs or big songs.

My dream tracklist: 1. Lasso - as an upbeat lush country opener ala Ride that's single worthy and her finest fucking album opener since, well, Ride 2. Country/hip hop BOP featuring the Weekend that's single worthy 3. Country/pop BOP featuring Taylor Swift that's single worthy 4. Country ballad ala Video Games that's single worthy 5. Mid-tempo country duet feat. Father John Misty 6. Sad country ballad featuring Dolly Parton 7.Experimental country/electronica BOP featuring Billie Eilish 8. Experimental country/electronica trip-hop ballad ala Tulsa Jesus freak only better, with a Jimmy Jimmy style outro 9. Experimental country/electronica rap featuring Quavo or ASAP Rocky 9. Mid-tempo country duet with synth elements feat. Orville Peck 10. Country ballad ala Wild at Heart 11. Prettiest Girl in Country Music feat. NIcky Lane 12. Henry, Come on Bonus tracks 13. Hey Blue Baby 14. I must be stupid for being so happy 15. Stand by Your Man 16. A big country hit cover but GOOD.
-
weird. i'm sure the album will be cool, but girl, drop a single to create some real buzz and interest
-
fantano is onto something. "Tortured poets department" is SUCH a Lana idea. Who introduced poetry to pop music? Lana. typewriters, the chelsea hotel, the song titles, the expletives, patti smith reference, the take-downs of men. Taylor is clearly inspired by lana. dont get me wrong - i like taylor, and i kinda like the album. But billie and taylor are both ripping off lana this year majorly.
-
yeah, we will never flop as hard as that.
-
They sound hot. Also, why the hell isn't she dropping that first fire single? The album is less than a month away!
-
Not when Taylor just dropped a 30 track album, and Billie and Dua are about to drop singles and albums this month. Imo, Lana should wait till the end of May to drop the first single. That's 3 months before the album. So she can do one single per month before the release date to promote it actively.
-
i just need a bop guys. I dont care if it's a collab with Billie or the Weeknd. Or the 9th track on Lasso. Or a movie soundtrack. I need Off to the Races or Doin' Time part 2. Hell, i'd take Don't Call Me Angel part 2
-
So, "the Greatest" on Billie's new album is going to be a Lana cover? Wildflower too? I still can't get over how Lana the whole thing is. Must be very flattering for Lana. Also, I think it's pretty clear that Billie has a crush on Lana.
-
Top 5 for sure! BORN TO DIE RIDE SHADES OF COOL YOUNG & BEAUTIFUL CANDY NECKLACE Sth like that. I love it when she shoots on film and the videos look expensive AF. More examples: WEST COAST, NATIONAL ANTHEM, MUSIC TO WATCH BOYS TO, DON'T CALL ME ANGEL. I'd say those 9 are my favs. High by the Beach and Doin' Time next, but they still look a bit cheaper by comparison.
-
i didn't say that. I was talking about lyrical, melodical and sonical cohes. Also, genre. Songs like High By The Beach (a trap-infused pop song), a super jazzy Terrence Love You or Honeymoon, and a rock-infused post-breakup song like The Blackest Day are really not that cohesive. Let's get real here. If Blackest Day was on UV, you wouldn't have thought it doesn't belong there.
-
I agree that OB is the least cohesive. IfI was making a best-of LDR compilation, choosing three great songs that sound like they belong on the same album is easy for all. But you can't find three songs on OB that sound like they're from the same cloth. The closest to that is OB, The Grants and maybe Candy Necklace. But those are not the best songs on the record. And, generally speaking, shifting from OB to AW to Let the Light in and Margaret to Peppers and Taco Truck is always a bit of a mind-fuck. Some of these songs belong together (e.g., Sweet, Fingertips, Kintsugi, but in the end you have about four little EPs rolled into one. It's almost like these songs were scraps from different albums or unreleased songs clumped together. Even BB, which was literally that, sounded more cohesive. Still love the record though.
-
nah. There's always a title track with lana. Plus, you can just see lana workin' that lasso angle poetically. The song is coming and it'll be one of the singles, if not the first
