just watched the interview of lana talking about how the room was silent when she announced lasso, and now she doesn't really know what she's going to do. i wish she would know that those people don't represent (most) of her fans :brigitte:

even if people do want her next album to deviate from her recent folksy/country style, it wouldn't be authentic to her to switch genres for an album four years in the making. i hope she puts out something that she wants to create, not a project she thinks will please people

I don't think it's so much about the genre itself, but what you make of it. For example, Taylor and Lana both made folk albums (almost at the same time), but Folklore was somehow much more successful than COTCC, both with listeners and critics, and I think the fans were also skeptical at the beginning whether it would work out.

The Jon Batiste Interlude really pisses me off

I feel like that could've been a really beautiful, Tori Amos-esque track by the two of them and instead it's just a messy circlejerk "feature"

That bit where she sings "honey" (?) @ 2:20 or so is so beautiful and it's just fucking wasted

Idk what they're talking about and tbh I don't really care

I would've just much preferred a fully formed song than just a recording of them fucking around in the studio

the opposite for me, I really like how the good chemistry between them has been captured forever, it's a unique moment and it lightens up the album a bit

I love nearly everything she puts out but please do not let Lasso sound anything like Blue Skies. That song sounds like the 1920’s version of this gif :hype:(derogatory)

She literally said that the album could sound like American Songbook, and Blue Skies would fit well into that genre, I even suspect that the song was originally intended for American Standards & Classics, so yes, the album could very well sound like that.

  4. oh wait, she said more in that NME interview?

    https://www.nme.com/news/music/lana-del-rey-interview-lasso-ivor-novellos-country-reading-leeds-3759161

"Are the lyrics of ‘Lasso’ inspired by that same sense of ease, fun and comfort she’s been talking about today?

“Yes, I’d say so,” Del Rey offered. “I’ve maybe less to say in terms of any self-revealing things like on ‘Tunnel’ or ‘Blue Bannisters’ or ‘Chemtrails Over The Country Club’, and just more melodic. Maybe more American Songbook style?”"

I'm not reading too much into the interview, I think she just doesn't want to talk about Lasso in advance until it's time to roll it out. I also don't think she's worried about trendhopping, she literally said the music industry is going country so she obviously knew a bunch of big releases this year would be country. She probably said that to get ahead of it and show that she isn't just following the trend and has been working on a country album for years.

I have a feeling Lasso is still on track and she just doesn't want to discuss it right now.

She could have simply said: "I don't want to talk about it yet, but it's coming this year"

but she was more like "country was a good idea at the time, but somehow things have changed now"

    part about lasso at 2:07

Interviewer: What can you tell us about Lasso coming out later this year, you're going country right?

Lana: Oh jeez, well what can I say now. What can I say now. I mean when I gave Jack Antonoff his award for best producer of the year and I said welcome Nashville to Hollywood and Hollywood welcome Nashville because the music business is gone going country and it went silent. Five thousand people dead silent and then the next week we had three major artists announce big country albums so where is Lasso going I really have no idea now. You know what I mean?

Interviewer: Lyrically (?) while it's been inspiring is it part of that fun and ease you were talking about on stage?

Lana: Yeah I would say so, maybe less to say in terms of any kind of self-revealing things like on Tunnel or Blue Banisters or Chemtrails, more melodic, maybe more like American songbook style.

this was not a statement like "I'm going definitely country and the album is out in September" :um2:

    it was more like

What does the glass ship metaphor mean, I'm little bit dumb when it comes down some expressions like these :(

My interpretation of the flying glass ship is that she wants to remain exceptional, to stand out from other musicians, but it could also mean that she wants to keep her freedom, that she doesn't want anything forced on her, but to be free to decide where and how she performs.
