Ik PORTALS gets shat on a lot on here, but let's be honest, the meaning of songs like PLUTO and VOID are truly unmatched. The shedding of you past self, growth, and the healing potential and influence this album has had already in just under a year is crazy. The concept is definitely there, executed with a good visual vibe as well (Ik videos will never top Cry Baby era for sure, but the aesthetic is still pretty) + the meaning is absolutely there with all the songs. Powerful album and shoutouts to VOID, TUNNEL VISION, LEECHES, THE CONTORTIONIST, NYMPHOLOGY, EVIL, WOMB, POWDER, PLUTO, and MILK OF THE SIREN... I OPENED A MILLION DOORS... YOU'D NEVER GO...

literally only complaint is the backup dancers being there, and even then, that's a personal choice, because I love when Mel's alone in her videos, or seriously invested in realism. The effects were amazing, she looked stunning, and the concepts were all just perfect. Chef's kiss to her.

Theory here: So, Melanie posted these stickers for her Gramercy concert in 2014. (same one she performed Gold Diggin’ Love at) each seems to represent songs… 1 Cry Baby 2 A Thousand Words 3 Dear Porcupines 4 I ORIGINALLY guessed Bittersweet Tragedy, but looking at the merch she sold at the same show, I’m not so sure. 5 Gold Diggin’ Love 6 Dollhouse These shirts have two donuts who are together and old, one having glasses… it appears that the donut glasses design represents the concept of the shirt, with “growing mold together”- this COULD be another gem of a song, like GDL, but it also could be BT/nothing at all. Between the shirt, every other design representing a song, as well as these lyrics post that aren’t tied to any song (making it a Mel original probably) ,I’m convinced I’m onto something.

I wonder how many unreleased stories and storylines Melanie has, artists like her never stop ideas and for sure has sprung many ideas we'll never hear of.

AS for the rollout: * promoing first is always better: visuals, posts, teases, etc. * singles of the best/your favorite songs is ideal as well. * lyrics videos also help definitely. There really is no one-size-fits-all rollout, go with the flow, and even if it isn't received well, absolutely keep at whatever you want to achieve, and although I hate how much time Melanie takes between releases, she's absolutely right about TAKING YOUR TIME!!!

promotion with fun clips or visuals/teasing on social media. Follow yourself 100%, you are the master of the art. Maybe start small with an EP and see where it builds from there, or be ambitious and start with an album. Visuals certainly help art get promoted in the world, but it's entirely up to you on what you want with your art. Deluxe 100%>>>, unless there's a story specific album/ep and it doesn't feel right to extend it. Best of luck, whatever you put your time and mind to, you will absolutely receive.
