ilovetati Posted February 14, 2019 Posted February 14, 2019 Hey, everybody! I'm super excited because an extremely talented professional artist I know will be painting a Lana portrait for me. I would love everyone's help in deciding on a picture for him to recreate to go in my apartment. First of all, I adore the aesthetics Ultraviolence era...the California nights, the palm trees and smoke in the wind of the Coachella performance, Lana's 70s Laurel Canyon style. But, my apartment is very Born to Die. I live in a downtown high-rise, have a lot of understated and light-colored furniture. The light blues and peach colors from Born to Die era would match perfectly. I can't decide between the two. Can you guys help me find a picture for him to recreate? He likes to focus on faces, but I do want to throw in a signature backdrop from whichever photo we choose. 2 Quote
ilovetati Posted February 14, 2019 Author Posted February 14, 2019 Some ideas. Obsessed with this performance...so hypnotic. Other UV: Maybe something from the Berlin performance? Born to Die era ^Would match so well, and it's iconic. ^Would take Lana and maybe add a few BTD images as backdrops 2 Quote

ilovetati Posted February 14, 2019 Author Posted February 14, 2019 Phew, @@salvatore DELIVERED. 3 Quote
salvatore Posted February 14, 2019 Posted February 14, 2019 but if ur artist does headshots/faces as his forte these r also nice imo something from her Liberation Next Magazine photoshoot (2014) would be pretty, she has expression & it's palmy n breezy backdrops i'd also look at some of her candid 'polaroid' photos if ur trying to capture a moment in time, they're usually more 70s/laurel-canyon-y in flavor this is a classique 1 Quote Thoughts on Yosemite.
Sugar Venom Posted February 14, 2019 Posted February 14, 2019 the last pic in @Salvatore’s post..... That’s It (sorry for not just quoting i’m on my phone) edit: these are my recommendations tho (sorry for the huge images and wacky formatting, i’m still on my phone ) and don’t forget you can take anything and change it around a little in editing apps (or photoshop if you know how), personally i’m not a fan of cool tones so i def would use vsco on some of these to warm em up especially the last one lol 3 Quote
ilovetati Posted February 14, 2019 Author Posted February 14, 2019 I've always loved this shot from that shoot as well, but just not sure if it would go with my apartment. I have a lot of soft wood, light beige furniture, with splashes of pastels. I love the first two you posted...I do want something that says iconic Lana too. 0 Quote
salvatore Posted February 14, 2019 Posted February 14, 2019 i never knew this photo existed and idk if it's an edit but holy fuck she's gorgeous here...her mind 1 Quote Thoughts on Yosemite.
cognaclilac Posted February 14, 2019 Posted February 14, 2019 i think b&w would suit anything perfectly and if you love lana so much to have a picture commissioned for you i think you'll love it either way but it also sounds like you're going by color palette and i wouldn't stress yourself over that too much because furniture can change/wall paint can change so the portrait should be it's own thing ya know? also it's possible to mix the two maybe? uv pic in a btd color scheme? why not it would be more original for you here are some of my fave pics to help 1 Quote insanity laughs under pressure -- we're cracking
Sugar Venom Posted February 14, 2019 Posted February 14, 2019 Sure! Aretha Lennon Bowie Prince Janis also wow these are gorgeous, you better post pics once you get yours and hang it up!! (also posted a few pics too but they're in my earlier post in case u didn't see! i went back and added them) 0 Quote

Beautiful Loser Posted February 14, 2019 Posted February 14, 2019 So many good suggestions already, I’d say it’s harder to pick one for reference than to suggest another photo! I like to draw myself and I prefer less blurry pictures so I can get as many details as possible. This painter seems to be great with details so maybe pick one where things can be seen clearly (so no low quality pics). :3 1 Quote
