Shinzo Abe, Prime Minister of Japan will resign due to ill health. Serving eight consecutive years, he is the country’s longest ruling leader.

Don't know about his policies but hope his health improves. I wonder who will replace him

Well he sure served a lot longer than several of the prime ministers who came before him. 

 

Really a long run as PM. I thought he would stay until next year until after the Olympics concluded.

His term was slated to end in Sept. 2021

There will likely be an interim leader until a general election can be called soon

Sept 2021 was after the Olympics were due to end. Again, this is if they still even have the games next year... if.
