also just read up on the zezé incident and i found this reddit post and i think it makes a lot of sense and should be considered by any new fan

It might seem as if she is sexualizing him if you take the lyrics at face value, but when you look deeper, it’s such an amazing song. Basically, she’s taking on the role of the kpop industry/fans and singing to herself. IU is ZEZE. As a young girl, the industry sexualized her and this song is about that. Many people failed to realize that. Now let’s unpack.

 

“Stroking sounds with those little fingers. Singing of colors and sights in your ticklish voice…” IU used to play the guitar, and her uncle fans at the time liked that, especially her small hands and innocent image. The beginning of the song is similar to the audience admiring the idol on the stage.

 

“Zeze, climb up the tree. Kiss the leaves. Don't fool around. Don't hurt the tree, bad bad” The tree is the kpop industry/the fans. If she wanted to be famous, she would need to do what they said and climb up the tree. Don’t date, and do as the fans say and you will be famous.

 

“Just one more touch. I wait for you here every day. Come get it all. I want to call again. I wait for you here every day.” These are the sasaengs. They wait in the tree for IU to give them fan service. Even though IU doesn’t want to go to the tree and do as they say, she has no choice but to go.

 

If people were angry that IU seemed to be sexualizing the boy then that’s great since IU is ZEZE. They should be angry that her uncle fans were sexualizing her at such a young age. This song was her own way of calling out the industry and at fans who want to “dirty” idols after painting them with an innocent image. It’s gross. And that’s why ZEZE is an amazing song I will stand on this hill.

zeze is pretty much in "Off to the Races' case, where Lana was accused to romanize a literally story about a p*do with a 12 year-old girl named Lolita.

They just misunderstood the point.
