"Singer-songwriter/poet Indy Yelich O’Connor has always been fiercely independent. Growing up in the sleepy Auckland suburb of Devonport, she recalls losing interest in drama classes as a child because she was “always more interested in creating the storyline than being in someone else’s.” This quickly became something of a mantra, motivating her first to pursue poetry and songwriting, and then to uproot her life to L.A. at 18, before settling in New York shortly after. It’s this determination to live authentically and to write intuitively that makes Indy such a compelling songwriter. As inspired by writers like Ocean Vuong, Frank O’Hara and Alex Dimitrov as she is Bon Iver, Kacey Musgraves and Tears for Fears, Indy acquits herself as a hugely evocative lyricist on debut track Threads, capable of conjuring a tidal wave of emotion in a single image. Bringing a poet’s perspective to songwriting, and fostering a powerful sense of universality while tracing her own deeply-personal emotional journey, Threads is an enthralling introduction to a truly remarkable storyteller. As Indy explains, “I've always had a very distinct voice but now, at 23, I finally feel I know exactly what I’m trying to say."

Personally I’m very against the whole “my wealthy relative bought my career” thing

It's inevitable really. If you want to pursue music or a career in arts and you have a relative who has successfully done so by default you will have had a decent following and media interest whether you want it or not. From what I can hear the talent is there and I am curious to see if she can make it past the comparisons to her sister. How we say in Poland 'i tak źle, i tak niedobrze.'
