I believe it's bullshit. The car you're thinking of is the Ford Del Rey (Confusing right?) the Del Rey wasn't available in America though. her name was Lana Rey Del Mar at one point which translates to  Lana King Of The Sea or Lana Sea King. I think Lana Del Rey is just a shortened version of that.

I always thought she just searched del rey on youtube and happened to find that lol
