I don't really think anyone was being sassy tho (at least imo). I just think some people are tired of other people saying Lana needs to do something new every time something new is released from her. Now granted while blue banisters wasn't that different but Chemtrails (to some extent), Norman, Tunnel and even Henry sonically is a new or different take on what she's already doing. I think there is some truth to what you said about being people defensive tho I'm even somewhat guilty of that .

I'm pretty sure TNBAR was always gonna sound like that if it was on LFL . And while I agree not every song needs a rerecording, i think everyone needs to accept if she's gonna put pawn shop blues on trpws or even release aka in its entirety I would expect a rework or rerecord for those.
