  1. I feel like I'm the resident Daria stan. I have all of her seasons and the two movies. Daria is fucking flawless!

You are definitely not alone! I used to watch the original airings on MTV and I still have some VHS tapes with episodes that have all the music intact! Daria was a huge inspiration to me and I think it's timeless. The subject matter is no less relevant today than it was 15 years ago. I freaked the fuck out when they finally released the complete series! I'd had the DVDs of the movies that had bonus episodes and the one VHS that was released, so I was literally chomping at the bit.

  2. Aw, lucky! She seems like she'd be really sweet in real life.

    :flutter:

She is a doll! She always meets fans after the shows. I missed the Love This Giant tour, but I wasn't that jazzed on the album.

Charlotte Gainsbourg - Out of Touch

  3. St. Vincent - "Jesus Saves, I Spend"

Any other Annie fans? :creep: I used to abhor all music with heavy guitar, but my conversion to Yeah Yeah Yeahs addict has altered my entire tolerance for rock music.

Not to mention she's super beautiful, a la my current signature.

I am OBSESSED. I've seen her four times and met her three times. She's amazing.

Scott Walker - "See You Don't Bump His Head"

Some crazy ass shit. I love it.

  4. I'm a HUGE Fiona Apple fan, but I wouldn't say there are any comparisons at all to be made between her and Lana (except for the fact that the intro to Million Dollar Man sounds almost exactly like the intro to The Child is Gone). The only comparison I've been able to find (and it's been mentioned before in this thread) is that Lana sounds quite a bit like Hope Sandoval from Mazzy Star vocally sometimes, but that's still a very superficial comparison. In terms of subject matter and aesthetic, Lana is totally unique.

  5. I AM GOING TO SEE IAMAMIWHOAMI IN MAY DEAR GOD SOMEONE HOLD ME :crying:

I CAN COME TOO PLZ?!?!?! That bitch had better tour the US next year or else.

I should be going to the Caprices Festival in Switzerland to see Tori Amos, Bjork, and Portishead, but unfortunately, my bank account has other ideas. Also, I am going to try to see Fleetwood Mac this year to fulfill a lifelong dream. It would be easier if the decent tickets weren't $200 face value, but oh well...

  6. SIOUXSIE WAS MY IDOL WHEN I WAS 14 OK. Yeah, I'm a huge, huge fan of hers. I liked the solo album okay, love the Creatures stuff, and my favorites of the Banshees records are Kaleidoscope and A Kiss in the Dreamhouse.

Re: Dizzy I may or may not have had sex to that song many times.

  7. Ah this song is so great. Sucks that it's not on bounty though.

I know! I was hoping if she included ;john and clump, she'd include that one too, since she played the studio version at the London show. :(

Stevie Nicks - Beauty and the Beast

  8. I haven't bought any of his albums yet because some of them are quite expensive to get over here (because he's irrelevant in England) plus I prefer buying physical copies of albums rather than downloading but I'm definatly considering getting at least one of his albums.

They're quite cheap on Amazon France. I usually do a once a year big order from there and get all the releases I want. You'd think import albums would be easier to find in NYC, but no one cares about French music here.

  9. ^Yes! I love that. :) I also have a pretty lengthy interview from that time on my iPod, as well as one from the Hounds of Love era. I just love listening to her speak!

  10. Arghhhh! Get Out of My House was my anthem too! I used to play it full blast with the windows wide open haha! No one dared enter :D

We most definitely have been spoilt recently! I know what you mean regarding Moments of Pleasure. I feel the same about the new Woman's Work. The original was harrowing enough, but while it reveled in it's intense melodrama, the new version evokes a deeper resonance through it's subtlety. It's fair to say I've cried playing it... on the bus!

I used to rage around my room screaming, "NO STRANGER'S FEET SHALL ENTER MEEEEEEEEEEEEE." ;)

Oh, yes, that one too! I was hysterical the first time I heard it. I love how both are taken to a much more subtle, sombre place than the originals. Moments of Pleasure is almost funereal. I do miss the, "Just being alive, it can really hurt," lyric from the original, but I can't listen to it very often because I don't like the string arrangement at all.

The Kick Inside: Feel It/James and the Cold Gun

    Lionheart: Fullhouse/Coffee Homeground/Kashka

Never For Ever (this one is tough because it's one of my favorites): Army Dreamers/The Wedding List/Breathing/Babooshka

The Dreaming (REMASTER IT, FFS): Get Out of My House/Sat In Your Lap/Pull Out the Pin

Hounds of Love: Running Up That Hill/Cloudbusting/And Dream of Sheep/Watching You Without Me

    Sensual World: TSW/The Fog

Red Shoes: And So Is Love

    Aerial: A Coral Room/Aerial

    Director's Cut: Lily/Moments of Pleasure/Song of Solomon

    50 Words For Snow: Misty

An absolute tour de force of storytelling and atmosphere:

Oh, Kate. You were the love of my life at 14. I remember being on the school bus every afternoon and playing Get Out of My House on repeat. It spoke so clearly to alienated, outsider goth boy me. It still does! I still can't believe she spoiled us with two records last year. She made one of my dreams come true by finally re-recording The Sensual World with Molly Bloom's soliloquy. She also managed to make The Red Shoes more tolerable for me! The new Moments of Pleasure makes me cry like a little bitch. Now, if only she'd do some shows before she dies, I would gladly spend all my money to go to the UK to see her. Please, Kate, pleeeease?
