  1. Monday morning, subway station
    Pushers pushing, racers racing
Came the message on the station
"The power's out across the nation"
And, "Ladies and gentlemen, it seems we got a problem"
The man on my screen said, just as somebody shot him
And the mothers gasped, the children cried
Almost could not believe my eyes

    The power's out
And no one can save us
No one can blame us now
    That the power's out

It was pouring like a movie
Every stranger looked likе they knew me
    Handsomе cowboys praying, Gothic
Said, "I just remembered being happy"
And "Ladies and gentlemen, do remember me smiling"
The queer on the train said as she jumped off the platform
And some blind folks held the police, crying
I swear to you I would not lie

    The power's out
And no one can save us
No one can blame us now
    'Cause the power's out
And no one can save us
No one can blame us now
    'Cause the power's out
That's why I never came home

The song at 1:02 in the first video and 0:28 in the second video is not by Sophie (I thought it was too), it’s by a producer named Skorri (he has an upcoming EP on Trip)

    we lost

  3. I think it’s a fantastical record. The absolute chaos reigning in the songs is a very good vehicle for this nihilistic uncertainty I’ve been feeling. The feeling of wanting to cry but not sure why, the feeling of secretly wishing it would all just collapse, the feeling that something bigger is just always right around the corner. The SOPHIE nod serves almost like a folktale , something only told of legends. Preluding this moment with The Powers Out and subsequently Following the track with So Many Planets is just the key I think a lot of people are missing to unlock that concept. It’s not wrong to grieve a moment for the culture. Sweetest Fruit literally checks every stage of grief for me. I want to cry I want to dance. I want to be happy I existed and witnessed a way of life that has never been possible before. The Powers Out might be my SOTY already… it’s just amazing. I get CHILLS. I can’t explain but sometimes an artist just makes THAT song…. The last time I felt this way about a St Vincent song was Hang On Me. I love her big ass all or nothing type songs.

TL;DR this album is like walking through streets of mayhem with a pair of earphones on and a smile on your face

my literal only gripe is that there are never enough songs on her records for me:worship:

I finally get it. When you'e this ugly, unattractive, unpleasant to look at etc, obviously you direct all that anger towards somebody more beautiful and talented than you. E.g. Lana Del Rey

It's extremely satisfying to see this teenage fad fade to oblivion after having had challenged Lana :lmao: Career in the toilet.  Loser

Oh wow :brigitte: what did miss Ella do to you!???

I forgot there was a SOPHIE reference on there… :brigitte: she didn’t even know her personally but I’m still about to cry like a baby I know it

Okay honestly..... these lyrics feel way less problematic to me than "Look over the edge, but not too far" :brigitte: but since Annie didn't know SOPHIE ig i can see how people would feel offended

i honestly don't really mind who she works with, but i really do hope she works with rick nowels again at some point, they've created so many beautiful songs together, he really is the classic lana del rey producer and the one who's created her signature sound and feel, i fear she will never feel compelled to work with him again, for whatever reason, i know it's only natural for artists to move forward and to progress in their work, but i hope she can value and appreciate the amazing work they did together and work with him again

THIS. Papa Rick we miss you and you will always be famous
