  1. Spoiler

WD is such an emotional song I wonder how the mv will even capture what that song evokes... I'm guessing it'll be similar to VB in the sense that it will mostly be a visual for the song rather than a big artistic expression/companion to it. Like it'll just be a pretty visual to go along with it. Who knows maybe it'll be a serve! (This isn't premature mv hate by the way!)

  2. Spoiler

I think my top three are White Dress, Dark But Just A Game and Dance Till We Die which is so surprising because I wasn't excited for the latter two! I love the 90s-00s vibes of Dark and Dance is just such a pure hearted song. It such a good counterpart to White Dress. White Dress is like "I wish I was better off" and then in Dance she's like "No life is actually really good because I have such good people around me"

  3. I think Lana could've easily added Hey Blue Baby and I Must Be Stupid for Feeling So Happy (they could even replace LMLWLAW and BUS :creep:)

    Spoiler

IMBSFFSH (what an acronym) would be so good in place of/instead of BUS, right before Dance Till We Die  :trisha:

    Spoiler

On that note, I feel like the sequencing/tracklisting is really off. DBJAG between Wild At Heart and NAWWAL sounds really strange. I feel like DBJAG is better next to TJF because they have a "darker" feeling (not that they are "dark" songs or anything). LMLYLAW next to TJF is weird, too.

  4. Spoiler

The lyrics are noticeably worse than that of her other albums but they aren't bad. There are a few lyrical moments that really got me but I def won't remember this album for its lyrics. Like I kind of totally forget what Not All Who Wander Are Lost is about? Like what did she actually even say in that song? Same with LMLYLAW and Wild At Heart? Even Yosemite isn't like incredible when it comes to the lyrics? They aren't lyrically bad they're just a little beige in my opinion!

i've seen a lot of people say that melodies sound familiar to past songs... does the album still retain a sonic identity of its own despite some familiarities?

    Spoiler

Yeah, some of the melodic similarities are interesting but they don't take anything away from COCC in terms of it having its own identity/character

  6. First listen initial thoughts:

    Spoiler

The vocal take of White Dress (particularly when she sings that line about the men of the music business conference or whatever) is jarring at first but by the end of the song I really embraced it. There's something about this song that, by the end of it, you really understand her even more. It just feels very honest

Tulsa Jesus Freak will sound much better once I hear it in the proper quality on Spotify. Cute song though! Kind of crazy that it was going to be the title track at some point?

    Wild At Heart is great

Not All Who Wander is a sweet song. It pairs really well with WAH as a nice springtime easy listen

Dark But Just A Game is actually really good? It's giving me 90s-00s Portishead vibes? Why do I love it so much?

Yosemite is incredible and somehow the bongos really elevate the song! I was not expecting it to be this somber sounding. It def fits on LFL but it sounds really nice on COCC

Dance Till We Die is an unexpected SERVE! It's perfect as the penultimate song on the record and it really feels like a defining song in terms of its intention and lyrics. Like it's so nice to hear Lana sing about her group of friends and fellow musicians and how they all stick together.

Haven't listened to BUS and I only half listened to For Free. It's one of my favorite Joni songs and I personally think that the live take Lana/Weyes Blood/Zella did is so much better than this studio version. It's kind of lacking in emotion? I wish Weyes Blood and Lana would do more stuff together though. What a pairing!!

It’s like I know the days leading up to this album are gonna fly by like nothing, but I’m also an impatient little bitch and want something/anything at all to sustain my hype.

im manifesting an 8.4 from pitchfork but expecting a 7.7.

I was so shocked to see NFR got Best New Music and a score over 9 (which is pretty rare!) so who knows what they'll give COCC! LMLYLAW and the title track weren't received with much enthusiasm (unlike the singles from NFR) but if the rest of the album is good (and if there are a few defining moments like Venice Bitch and the Greatest) I feel like it'll get a solid 8 (with no Best New Music award). But based off of the first two singles, I am predicting a 7.8.

    Edit:

For reference, these are the past ratings:

    BTD: 5.5

    UV: 7.1

    HM: 7.5

LFL: 7.7 (Love got Best New Track)

NFR: 9.4 and Best New Music (the Greatest and Venice Bitch both got Best New Track)

Fuck this album is going to blow everyone out of the water we truly know nothing about the soundscape :angie: we might know the instruments and some of the descriptions but we don’t know anything about how it will be interpreted personally into our lives or even the impact it may have on us... lets start claiming tracks!

For me I would have to say Tulsa Jesus Freak or Wild at Heart

I claim For Free because it's going to be her best studio cover and no one else seems to be too excited for it :oprah3:
