Does anybody know if I'm missing anything??

  2. Hey guys! Not a frequent poster and I'm still getting used to the new format, so forgive me if this is the wrong section.

It's been a while since I last dedicated some listening time to Lana. I'm not sure if I fell out of love, or if maybe I'm not in the mind set that requires me to listen to her, but...

Last week I felt an urge to listen to Nevada A.K.A. again, completely out of the blue. It has been my favorite work of hers, since the very beginning. I discovered her with Video Games through Stereogum when it was released, and at the time, Nevada was her only complete album available.

I have always been puzzled and charmed by this album. Everything about it, from details to the whole mastering. So I decided to look stuff up about the production and not much came up.

I decided to visit discogs https://www.discogs.com/Lana-Del-Ray-Lana-Del-Ray-AKA-Lizzy-Grant/release/3370444 and saw the producer is David Kahne.

I'm looking for simmilar sounds, I really want to listen to works simmilar to this album. The artist itself is not something I'll limit myself about, but the production on this album is just breathtaking for me. My favorite songs are Yayo (don't even get me started about the time when this was rereleased) and Kill Kill. Put Me in a Movie and Jump are the other two songs which I most played off the album...

Investigating Kahne, I came to find something very surprising. He produced other works I really liked before knowing he was involved. Regina Spektor, Emilie Simon, Butterfly Boucher, and other names I wasn't expecting to come across (Paul McCartney, The Bangles, Kelly Clarkson and Ingrid Michaelson amidst others). Of course, there are no obvious simmilarities between the production for all these acts, which is a good thing, means this producer/artist is not "copy pasting" a formula across different people.

But I really WANT to find albums/artists that sound like this era of Lana.

Does anybody have any recommendations? I'm not being able to find anything based on websites (that same discogs release site I just shared recommended me stuff ranging from Madonna, to Coldplay and Rihanna, which, meaning no disrespect, have absolutely nothing to do with the unique brilliance of this record).

Once again, sorry if my post is not placed correctly

EDIT: I'm reading something about Steven Mertens/relax27 being the original producer of most of the songs that landed up in Nevada? And he's known more for being a video producer. Weird.

EDIT 2: http://www.mtv.com/news/2695337/lana-del-rey-first-album-5-points-records-interview/ this interview is interesting. Everything about this album is very mysterious to me. Who's this manager that decided to shelf the album?

  3. I still feel Something was their best work. Don't get me wrong, the polish in Moth was IT. but Something came after high expectations from "mainstream" fans who literally found out about them due to the iPod commercial, and a rioting "indie" scene who criticized them for doing so (what I find completely ridiculous, it doesn't make you a good fan or true music savvy to not want commercial success for anyone, it's just plain toxic). Also, Aaron had left the band after a lot of drama.

The producers they worked with are IT. Jorge Elbrecht, Dan Carey, Josh Ascalon... And also, it was the very first time Caroline had a more active role besides vocals and keyboards, and Patrick producing.

My favorite tracks are the more unconventional ones, where you really feel Cocteau Twins, Bjork and Air influences (like Turning, Amanaemonesia and Peculiar Paradise).

I feel really heartbroken for their breakup. I even found out they came as MGMT's support band some time to my country and I didn't even know them at that time.

  4. love her i thought there was already a thread though?

Oh, the reason I created a thread is because I searched and nothing came up... Weird... Now I see it's been merged

  5. "Tei Shi (aka Valerie Teicher Barbosa) is the colombian Buenos Aires-born, Vancouver-raised, New York-based singer winning over the city with her lithe vocals and ethereal pounding bass, just don't describe it as R&B."

    (i-d: https://i-d.vice.com/en_uk/article/j58mzx/tei-shi-makes-music-for-mermaids)

She's amazing. She has worked with so many of my favorite artists: Patrick Wimberly (from Chairlift), Blood Orange, Grimes (cameos on kill v maim) and on.

If you like Caroline Polachek, Empress Of, Solange, Kelela, Grimes, HANA, Shura and/or Kimbra, I'm sure you'll love her.

Her voice is quite unique, she's got a really good range and she has a very distinct sound.

Her releases up to now have been:
    2013 - Saudade EP
    artworks-000062214943-qipxcv-t500x500.jp

    2015 - Verde EP

2017 - Debut album: Crawl Space

2019 - La Linda (my favorite up to now, this is an AMAZING album)

    tei-shi-1.jpg

2020 - Die 4 Ur Love EP (Sounds REALLY good, it seems she found her sound)

  6. I enjoyed the album, like, a lot, but I would change a few things... I'd love to hear more songs from ''Mouth of a River'' project. Also, I don't like the new 'paramount' mix, which is very unnecessary, and I guess she re-mixed a lot of the songs there, like 'the deadlock' (and even 'dive'), so after all we still don't know their original versions. I wouldn't put 'dive' either.. And yes, I still want to hear the original version for 'chansing kites' and 'like hell'.

We still don't have 'b' and 'o'. Some of the EATBF are around but most remain unleak and the only leak from RTF is the 'OPEN SEA' one.

I wish they could delete our memories of their identities and still release iamamiwhoami stuff. Those days were amazing. Their production is ageless

  7. the fact that she's been EVERYWHERE

Yes! Have you seen her in the MGMT video too?

BTW, does anybody know about END OF THE WORLD ILUSION SONG?

It's the only registered track that I have no clue what it alludes to

    I love this

  8. How do you guys feel about KRONOLOGI?

I wish the would have added the iamamiwhoami remix of gone (a better polished version, please, the one out feels like a fanmade)

And that they would have also resurrected Like Hell (iamamiwhoami version).

Also some songs remain unreleased, mainly from the mouth of a river project.

Songs we're still missing (Besides Mouth of a River) : My Time (Keeping of Thoughts), Mirror mirror (Reflectance of the Pure and Simple), Watch me as I Go, and Avalanche...

Prelude 699130082.451322-5.4.21.3.1.20.9.15.14.1.12 & 15.6.6.9.3.9.14.1.18.21.13.56155 haven't been realized as full songs either.

BTW, did b or o instrumentals ever leak? They are the only ones we never got. We got full kin and BLUE.

    And ioannalee's album instrumentals?

  9. oh my god the way you finally replied to this (no shade just was absolutely stunned to see this notif)... i got the former 2 from a friend who had soulseek but i haven't found the Cool as a Fire demo still, any chance you can share it?  regardless, incredibly sad about Prepare though- have you looked into data recovery or anything like that?

Yes! I was able to get it from an Old Phone I synced it to. I'm so happy.

Sorry about that, I never saw this and came to the topic to post.

As for the Cool as a Fire demo, I THINK it's actually an early live rendition.

  10. @ShuichiAmy do you happen to know where you can find Daylight Savings, Let's Turn L.A. Back Into A Forest and the Cool as a Fire demo?  if you can post links that'd be great but if you can't i understand (i have no idea where to start tho so ... im begging you lmao)

    (also sorry for bumping!)

I've collected most stuff from Soulseek ages ago, when during the Something era.

In fact, there's a song, "Prepare", that I lost cause my old computer died, and that I hadn't backed up, and I'm SO angry, so so so SO angry that I don't have anymore.

  11. Soul Control and Read My Lips are my favorites. What are yours?

Man, I completely agree with Fantony Gape-tano, this is what Jessie's signature sound was promised to be when she debuted working with SAMPHA and SBTRKT. Every track from each album that has this vibe, is the most successful. Take "Imagine It Was Us".

She's so so so SO good.

Can't wait for her to do this style but with Blood Orange, again.
