Her three albums (& soundtracks) are now on the streaming world so no excuses to not know her music! Ive been watching closely the roll out of all Background Records albums (JoJo, Timbaland, Tank, etc) and they have done a great job. Im still side eyeing her uncle but her mom+brother/estate was just hurting her legacy further by being petty with her uncle by not reaching a deal to put out her music for streaming and re-manufacture [CD & vinyl] her music

it's so complicated I just prefer not to form an opinion / think of it as none of my business... I already had her discography prior to it being made available to stream anyway so that helped w beiing impartial

    Conclusion: I’m probably crazy.

Songs That Seem to Be About Barrie James-O’Neill:

      Hide contents

    BTD: The Paradise Edition
    - American (I can’t just justify this by just saying it’s the happiest current song she’s ever written, can I? Well, if you need to be convinced, Barrie is Scottish--perhaps describing him as having the spirit of an American without actually being one is apt. We can certainly say he’s the first non-American we know of her dating.)

    - Body Electric
    - Gods & Monsters (Allow a personal interpretation: “Gods & Monsters” is a song written in response to her fame and her resulting mindset. The land of gods and monsters perhaps being the limelight/Hollywood/fame in general? I don’t know. But there is a love interest here, one who seems to alleviate her pain.
Barrie is the first public relationship she’s taken up after garnering so much fame.)
    - Ride (This song is almost certainly about Lana’s current life, as opposed to her tradition of singing about past loves. We glean that it’s her reaction to the backlash that came with her fame based on the monologue in the music video and statements she’s given relating the song to touring. But while this song is deeply personal, the first verse invokes a “full-time daddy”.
Barrie is her current boyfriend. For her, singing blues has been getting old and she’s rather just be happy with him.)

not the list of barrie songs starting and ending with Paradise. that is definitely crazy. ultraviolence + honeymoon found dead

Really neat interview revealing that the song was actually done in 2012 and that BARRIE was the one who initiated contact with Lana to release the song!!! He also said something about Lana asking permission to release those 4(?) songs they did together. Does she mean Summer Wine? And why is he omitting UFB??

I assume the 4 songs he meant are just Black Beauty, Brookyln Baby, Living Legend and Nectar of the Gods

one of her best unreleaseds it feels like the closure of an album :ohno:

I agree one of her best ... great when paired with hawaiian tropic so either become a reprise

  5. Heard Aaliyah (2001) for the first time in April this year after listening to Are You That Somebody last year... Pretty much been stuck in a loop of her discography since then. I still haven't heard a few tracks from her first record.

Some of my fav tracks: Never givin' up, No days go by, Loose Rap, I Don't Wanna, Rock The Boat, More than a woman, I need you Tonight, Where could he be, Journey To The Past, Turn The Page, If Your Girl Only Knew, Come Back In One Piece, messed up, it's whatever, One in a million, I care 4 U, Back & Forth, I Am Music, choosey lover, at your best you are love

  6. He stood up and paused staring silently under the stars

He is a nocturnalist, chasing dreams is just the price he pays

And the haloed Hollywood sign is staring back at him in praise

Every night before, the velvet dark sky was void of any light or life
Hateful now under the bleak haze of gazing Hollywood, plugged bright

  7. Meet me in the morning, wrap your arms around me

Tell me that it's over now that you have found me

Walk me to the river, see the willow bowing

Carry me into the water, now we're drowning

    vs

    You're Superman and I'm not,
it's on your terms, we can waste all my time
Because I want you, I wanna go with you,
Don't leave me here, I wanna go with you
