listened to it after I woke up Traveling Song is one of my favorites especially this part when it's just her talking (And he told me that I was Apollo 13 on that very last day. He said "shoot for your dreams, little girl. To the stars!" Well, I'm taking you with me now, this one is ours. And I know what you'd say, you'd say, "On with the show!") Here is Home is okay New Constellations is my least favorite on the album

Am I let down, no. Do I think it could have maybe be re-tracked in order to keep a flow and strengthen the narrative, yes. I think her personality shines most against other mainstream pop artists, regardless of gender. Her interactions with fans and radio hosts in interviews just show her as being fun and a little weird. Most defining thing...lyrics. Every pop artist cookie cuts songs for radio. Ryn gives 0 fucks about structure, appealing to a wider audience (clearly since she said she hates the idea of singles and then filler) and I think she uses great imagery and metaphors in a refreshing way I haven't seen current mainstream artists do often

Overall: The album definitely does tell a story, whether it's cohesive or not is subjective depending on how intently you listen Runaway - The intro is cinematic, it takes a solid 30 seconds before she starts singing. There's a weird warble/delay vocal effect. Minimalist pounding beat, faintly tribal. Vocals sound short and almost breathless which works given the title. Ends with crickets chirping. OctaHate - picks up with a crackling sound where Runaway ends. We all know this song, the chorus is stratospheric and the plinking beat is childlike. Another play on the album's overarching concept. Pierre - Sounds of a music box play in the background of the quick intro. The chorus delivery is a little TOO close to OctaHate's, but I think this song is lyrically better so no issues there. Next single? Ehhh, it's good but radio likes songs with a simple structure and repetitive lyrics. If they didn't pick up her more accessible single, I doubt this will be the one that gets her noticed. Fan favorite for sure. Stay Low - It sounds just as magical as the first time we heard it. I particularly like the synths in the chorus, I also like the exasperation in her voice in the bridge Sail On - The perfect follow up song. This song was really relevant to when a family member of one of my closest friends died. One of my favorites overall. I think this should be a single honestly. I get emotional hearing this song. The Fool - midpoint of the record. Sums up the imagery that's accompanied the era and live performances. I think this is a Passion Pit reject with a female vocal so I wanted to skip it (but didn't so I could listen front to back). The chorus effects irritate the shit out of me. Promises - Duh, the song is good or else the EP wouldn't have been named after it. I like the intro before the first verse. I also like how the same guitar sound is recurring through the songs even if it is just for a fleeting moment. Free - YES! The cinematic feel of Runaways with the lyrical prowess of Stay Low. It sounds so majestic in the chorus when her voice is being used a synth while she sings "when love is free." The song is a tad busy then though and the layers are indiscernible for a few seconds THE RECORD COMPLETELY SLOWS STARTING HERE (these tracks should've been sandwiched elsewhere because it just ends the record on a resting note rather than a BANG) Traveling Song - Definitely the closest she gets to the sound of her old material. Soft guitar, minimal to no backing vocals, ambient sound effects in the back. It slows the momentum of the album, but it's the most insightful. the last verse is just her voice sing-talking with nothing else. Here Is Home - This song is so left field lol. The production is the most different out of every track on the album. It sounds like resting in a hammock on a sunny day, bookmark my description and go back to it later. It reminded me a bit of "Where Sky Hangs" off the new Passion Pit record Kindred New Constellations - piano, her voice sounds distant in the mix, soft whirring sounds. Sadly one of my least favorites, there's nothing memorable about it That's it you guys, any questions drop me a line X)
