I took a lot of film classes in college (include a Women and Film course) and I remember writing extensively about the way in which women were objectified in cinema. The female character serves as a manifestation of the male desire rather than a fully-formed character. The gaze refers to the director objectifying his actresses, the characters from the film, or the audience's gaze. Sometimes, it can be utilized by directors to make a statement or it can be an exploitive sort of gaze. I think Lana has been attempting to reverse this gaze in the HM era so far (the helicopter in HBTB, Music to Watch Boys To, the "tour" imagery).

Male gaze, female objectification, concept of celebrity, escapism, self-realization.

I've thought about this as well. I wonder what statement she is trying to make with the cult imagery. I know there's a theme in the Honeymoon era so far regarding female objectivity and the male gaze, so I'm interested to see where she takes the visuals.

If the scrapped video theory is real, then I love the fact that she released the footage anyway I still feel like the cult scenes will be used for MTWBT or Freak videos, though. A couple of the short clips from the teaser are from the 2014 Fader shoot, right?

What if the footage from the teaser and Pale Moon shoot were always intended for HM and we just wrongly assumed it was being shot for UV?
